Which players could be released via amnesty?

Interesting read:

...John Salmons, Sacramento Kings: Although Salmons is technically under contract with Sacramento for two more seasons, the final year of his deal has just $1 million guaranteed. That makes him nearly as attractive an amnesty candidate for this summer as it will next, depending on the Kings’ more precise offseason plans...

Really depends on the way the Kings want to go with Salmons (contract). It is basically an expiring contract, so a playoff team might be interested while shedding a longer term contract - like Indy/Granger for Salmons/Thorton.

Or, if the Kings think they can land a guy like say, I don't know, Chris Paul;) then they will amnesty his contract.

Or, Kings keep him and let his contract come off the books (with a buyout) next season. I don't really see this happening since the Kings will be looking for a new starting caliber SF, plus Salmons might prefer to be amnestied so he can latch on with a contender, and the Kings are only left paying for the remainder of a new contract. I also don't see that scenario playing out since the Kings would still be paying him a lot, and they could still trade him at the deadline (most likely).

If we amnesty Salmons, who is our SF?

If the Kings do get rid of Salmons via trade or amnesty, surely there will be a shiny new SF to take his place directly from those transactions. Will be interesting to see what type of SF Malone & the Unnamed GM will go after. I'd say there is a 0.00% chance Salmons will be on this team after the trade deadline next season.

I was asking about amnesty. I didn't realize we could get back a SF via our amnesty of Salmons. I was talking about this year. I don't think he'll be back a year from now either. I was specifically concerned about using the amnesty this year and where this shiny new SF will appear from. We've been looking for one for years. I admire your faith that THIS year one will appear while in the last 5 years or so we couldn't find any.

Salmons is due 7.5M this coming year.

I'd love to amnesty him and throw a 4/30M contract at AK or Iggy. Maybe even slightly more and to make room I buy out Outlaw who could go play in China for all I care.

4/30-35 for AK or Iggy is definitely money better spent than the 10.5M we're on the books for next year for the phenomenal Salmons/Outlaw duet. And, both might be options.

while it may not entice the likes of Iggy or AK47 all that much, the fact that we basically haven't got a single NBA-worthy SF on our roster, meaning starter spot and lots of minutes all but guaranteed for any potential signee, will definitely have guys like Korver or Dorell Wright come a-flocking. there will be a new starting SF next season, this we shouldn't worry about.

Just need one for a considerable change. Vlade was only one, FA's never flocked here, but he was vital.

Vlade didn't flock here, the Kings just offered him the most money.

That's the only way a bottom-dwelling small market team can get FAs.

It is what it is.

We'll just have our GM give them a call. Oh, wait. I realize nothing can happen before July 1 but I hope we hire a GM in time so he at least knows where the bathrooms are before he has to do something meaningful. I look forward to next year so let's keep that straight. I also have faith in Ranadive. Still, a lot of the people we have been talking to have taken jobs elsewhere or in the case of Bird, will probably go back to Indiana. Let's start moving bodies and with the proper GM who matches the mind set of Malone (isn't it supposed to be the other way around?) we can make some simple moves and have a much better team. If we all keep our prospective, we should at least have the confidence that Malone is better than Smart.

BTW, any bets that the new GM comes from the Warriors? After all this due diligence, at least the organization can say they gave it a good try to find someone else. The only guarantee that a GM will get along with Malone is if they already know each other.

Tick, tock.

Well there is J.J. Now before people start nuking me, it is possible that Malone will be able to incorporate his hustle and defense into the new system. Assuming J.J. did not spend the entire off season continuing his eating binge, he could well place hold the SF until either new draftee it gotten p to speed, or a deal can be made to bring in the right vet. What I am saying is that if we shed Saloms paper to sign a center or PG we would not be completely with out. Now let the nuking begin.

JJ is a free agent.

Given how things went hard to see us resigning him.

We would however, still have a SF on the roster:

well, if we don't have a gm, we'll still be in the lucky position of paying Salmons for his services and this whole conversation is moot. so yeah, a new gm would be nice, as those guys seem to be pretty useful.

Iggy has a player option this year for over $16M. I cannot fathom him opting out of that contract to accept a four-year at less than one-half the annual value.

Referring more to AK there than Iggy, but I doubt Iggy is a shoe-in to resign with George Karl leaving and their FO possibly being uprooted.

And there's been rumors of him possibly opting out all season.

If John Salmons or Travis Outlaw is still on this roster by the time the season starts I'm going to be very disappointed. I'm willing to give this new ownership group a chance to prove themselves, but both of these guys are already sunk cost as far as I'm concerned and one decent game every couple weeks or so does not add up to a positive contribution to the team. I don't even care who the SF is next season as long as it's not one of these guys. That part of the Petrie/Maloof era needs to be over now. Sign a minimum salary player who's going to bust their butt if worse comes to worse. It's still addition by subtraction.

There are a number of players that are easily available via FA that would more than adequately replace Salmons, whose PER of 10 or so this season was absolutely abysmal. Yes, someone like AK47 (if he opts out) would requiring amnestying Salmons if Reke returns, but someone like Dorrell Wright, Matt Barnes, or Corey Brewer could do the trick for $5 million or less per year over a couple years.

I would love to see Matt Barnes back in a Kings uniform. He plays hard, he's not afraid to take a hit or dish a good, hard foul and he could actually bring some veteran experience to our team.

AK intrigues me as he seems to value more in life than money. The problem is would he want to play out his career in Sacramento? The situation would have to look very intriguing and as much as we all seem to approve of hiring Malone, I don't think playing out my career with a rookie coach would sound all that good. We had a chance of overcoming that if we could have gotten Bird. Then we could appear to the world like a real NBA team. Unfortunately, we still look like one flailing about and a FA who can go darn near anywhere he wants (yes, I realize you have to have cap space) might look at Sacramento in the same way it has been seen from Day 1. AK or Iggy could change this team much as Vlade did so I hate to be negative but I think even as people writing on a forum that we should try to stay realistic about how this city and franchise appears to the outside world.

I think Vivek and Malone could sell him on how he could be a part of turning things around, major cog and leader of the team's defense-first philosophy. Pointing out the region's considerable Russian population wouldn't hurt either ;).

He also could help recruit his current point guard to come as well (please don't fine me, NBA!)

I'm sorry, but I am against AK because he can't shoot. You can't have IT as your only 3pt threat, and you can't start PPat if you're serious about defense.

I'm tellin' y'all that Mike Dunleavy is our guy.

I definitely think this is true and hence my interest in AK as opposed to Iggy - not that I'd turn down Iggy. :) This kind of plea to him might interest him especially with a nice new arena being built. Money is not everything to AK47.

If I'm going that route, then I'm going after Iggy. He's younger and less of a risk as far as injury goes. Kirilenko didn't look like the Kirilenko of old to me last season in the few times I saw him play. I could have caught him on a bad night, but I'd rather have Iggy.

Iggy is my hope too. Granger is too big of a health risk. Iggy is athletic, and can handle the ball a little bit. And of course, his D. But I highly doubt he's going to opt out, unless he has a wink-wink with Denver to do so...like what Richard Jefferson did a few seasons ago with the Spurs to get more years.
