what was your reaction when jason williams got traded for bibby??

hanchiho

Bench
compared with you guys i'm a relatively new kings fan(since 2000)
Before the year i barely know kings but only, constantly heard my father and grandfather, who are both huge lakers fan, talking about how great the kings were. the first time i heard about the kings (i didnt even know there's a team in sacramento) was from a magazine from which i learned english during high school, introducing how good jason was. therefore i didnt know exactly what happened when jason got traded...

so please let me know what was going on that time? and the reason why jason got traded.

Well at the time the Kings were indeed one of the most tantalizing and exciting teams to re-energize the league after the NBA lockout and departure of Michael Jordan. Most of this was due to of course the incredible energy that Jason gave us with his crazy innovative passes and 30 ft. pull up jump shots :p. What he gave our team as far as popularity goes is absolutely intangible as he played a large part in making the Kings "cool" (Boy was it nice seeing the Kings pretty much always featured on Sportscenter + so many people sportin Kings jerseys ...#1 sold nba jersey for a year..maybe 2).

But basically with all that said and done, the Kings were still getting popped in the playoffs due to the inconsistency and lack of organized basketball that pretty much characterized the play of Jason. Was he fun to watch? Hell yes. But the Kings needed a solid and reliable point guard if they wanted to make a serious bid as a contender. And it just so happened that the lowly Grizzlies desperately needed some flair to excite their new hometown and fill some seats... thus the trade of Mike Bibby for Jason Williams.

Many were heartbroken and outraged (like me!) because he was a favorite for many but as you can see today it was a good move for both teams with the Kings making several serious runs at the championship and the Grizzlies being risen from the depths of crap.

=)

I still love Williams! Bibby was a better player at the time and now. I knew it, but I still did not want him to go. I miss seeing his crazy hussle (diving into the fans to save the ball), and his passes like he has a third arm or something. Although, he did throw away a lot of games for the Kings with terrible shots, but I easily forgave him. He was someone who made the game really fun to watch, and you just get the enjoyment out of it, win or lose. You just kind of feel like saying "Oh well, they did an excellent job, it was a good game, next time boys."

At first, I was shocked and could not believe that Williams was gone. I loved to watch him play - still do. Then, I heard that we traded him for Bibby. I KNEW it was a good trade. Bibby is not as fast or as flashy, but he is a smarter player on the court. Bottom line -Bibby is the better point guard. I am always sad to see players get traded, but sometimes, it is for the best.

I still have a black J-will kings jersey ,55! Those big # 5's on the back sure make it heavy but I think those black Puma uni's they wore back then were the coolest. It was my first authentic jersey and so Iwas bummed for that reason too. J-will off his elbow to Webber for a throwdown, remember that one?

I was pretty excited. I felt like Jason was going to (and had to) be traded that summer, the fact that we were getting back a better starter at the same position really surprised me. Not as excited as the day we traded for Webber, more like on the scale of the day Vlade signed here. You knew he was going to be a key piece but you didn't know just how much of a key he'd be.

Just My Own ...

I'm sorry, but the timing of this question alone raises my curiosity ...

Still missin' J-Will ???

Not a Bibby fan ???

Remorse ???

Angry at Mike ???

Still think the King's are better off with J-Will ???

I'm just asking ....

Curiosity and hope. Two feelings.

Mike Bibby is a far better point guard than Jason Willams. One doesn't have to be Geoff Petrie to see that!

^^^oh c'mon..... bibby sucked last night sure, but even when he doesnt, i still catch myself thinking about j-will tossing sick azz passes to only then brick a 30 ft jumper with a man in his face and 17 on the shot clock.... those were the good old days.... we didnt know what the future held for us, it was fun..... let him have his time and talk about jason.

I knew that Sac had gotten an upgrade to Williams and a guy that the Lakers couldn't count on to shoot 25 footers on the break or throw balls into the 4th row during playoff games.

I have liked Bibby since his Arizona days. I always said that we needed to trade Jwill for Bibby and then one day it happens.

I am a big Bibby homer. Last night was a bad game and thats all. I am sure Mike was more upset at his performance then we are as fans. I wouldn't be surprised to see a 30 spot dropped next game.

Nothing against JWILL he was an exciting player but overall play I think Bibby has proven time and time again he is more controlled and a better/smarter player.

At first I was mad because I didn't know who they traded him for. When I heard that it was for Bibby I was happy because I always liked Bibby since he played college ball for Arizona. I liked J-Will but I liked Bibby far more.

I was close to estatic. Jwill wouldn't keep under control either his mouth or his passes or his arrogance...In my opinion, this is why he was traded.

I didn't like it at first but I also realized I wouldn't have to bang my head against the wall as much anymore. J-will is that kind of player. He either completely blows your mind with his great passing skills or causes you to smash your cranium in with a hammer b/c of his inconsistency.

Honestly I didn't know anything about Bibby so my reaction was "Who's Mike Bibby?"

Now I'm like Jason who?;)

Same exact reaction my fiance' had.

I thought "well Mike should be happy, he's out of Vancouver".

Then it was "yeah, now I can watch him on TV more than twice a year".

In Jason's case it was: Maybe this will be good for his attitude
