Shutter Island

Scorsese scores again (see what I did there?) with a really dark and eerie psychological thriller with a mind-blowing plot. The acting was top-notch. I loved the way the music (or lack of) was usedto draw suspense; it was perfect for the environment Scorsese was trying to portray.

This is a must see.

Serious Moonlight - It was sooooo slow, but I watched it to the end hoping it would get better. It didn't.

Man, the last 3 movies that I have picked have been awful. Maybe next time I'll have my dog pick the next movie.

City of Angels. I like Nicolas Cage, but I am not impressed with this movie honestly. It's not that I don't like fantasy movies, but it was kind of cliche.

I just finally saw "Couples Retreat"... it's funny they have the word retreat in the title, as this is exactly what I did about half way through... what a terrible film... Vince Vaugn should only be allowed to act in films that star Will Ferrell.

I saw Shutter Island. Had to see it. The Island they used for the movie is right across the water from my house. Its a creepy place, thats for sure. I though it was OK until the end, were it got better. Not a great move though, IMO. Not as good as Shawshank, thats for sure

Also saw Zombieland. I had no idea what to expect going into it, but I loved it. Its violant. Most of the violence takes place before the movie even really 'starts' but still, good movie. The actors/actresses were great.

I haven't seen the Box, I was a big fan of the short story it is based on and remember the Twilight Zone episode as a kid. So I'm a bit weary and will wait for it to hit cable.

Watched 2012. Destruction of the planet = comedy gold. Especially the parts in LA.

Adventureland. Loved it. These 2 young actors were really great in this one. The main character even reminded me of myself lol.
Overall great romantic comedy/drama, one of the best films of last year. Also features a killer soundtrack!

Alice in Wonderland -- The use of 3D was nice, the cast was great, and the art direction was quite beautiful, but... can't give it anything better (or worse) than a hearty "meh." Just, meh.

Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton) 2010-
yesterday i went to Regal in EDH to see the Imax 3D experience, it was jam packed ofcourse.. as you know Tim Burton movies are very off the edge, either you like them or not. They always star Johnny Depp in this case (The Mad Hatter) and Tim Burton's wife helena bonham carter (Red Queen); main character who played Alice was Mia Wasikowska; and we cant forget Anne Hathaway (White Queen)... as with this said i would give the movie a solid 2.5-3/5 because of how how the plot was put together, kinda .. In my opinion, see it in 3D.. the effects are very cool though!

Mostly abandoned houses/buildings. Its very strange. Kind of reminds me of LOST. There is one woman who actually lives on the island. Or she used to. She could be gone by now. The town doesnt want anyone over there, and is veryyy slowly trying to get rid of all the structures so people stop 'visiting'.

The 3D effects were really bugging me at first, but I guess I sort of got used to it as the movie went on. I was trying to remember the Disney Cartoon, to try to follow along with the "plot" but I don't think I've seen it since I was 6 years old, but of course the movie is nothing like the cartoon. (I don't think that's spoilerish?) Overall, like I said it was just "okay."

I have an inherent hatred for Johnny Depp (who only annoyed me yet again! ), but I thought Helena Bonham Carter was good as the Red Queen-that was really the only performance I liked.

AVATAR. Am I the only person in the country who thinks this movie was a rehashed story line, just with blue people. Cornball dialog and movie cliches galore.

I'm surprised the army general didn't say "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" as he took a slug of his coffee.

I watched Whip It last night.

So, I liked this movie for what it was, a typical underdog sports story. It was enjoyable on that level. However I was quite disappointed that it took an edgy, grass-roots sport with a very pro-female message (at least in this incarnation, I was actually something of a fan of the co-ed sport of years past and have always wanted to play myself), and just played it pretty much as a straight sports film with a touch of the whole coming-of-age theme. It really could have been more.

Old Dogs - My friend and his 2 kids rented Old Dogs. I know the critics gave it a bad review but it was actually cute and had some funny parts.

Im hooked on Zombieland.

I have it on Blu-Ray and watch it like once a week.

Hachiko - A Dogs Tale. If you love dogs like I do, this movie is for you. I cried at the end.

Ninja Assassin. I don't know what to say about this one really so I'll borrow a line I read in a review - this is the movie the Cannon Group wishes they could have made. Heck, they even brought out Sho Kosugi. Silly story provides an excuse for plenty of ninja fighting, all kinds of special effects and blood galore. Buckets and buckets of CG blood. It plays like a video game at times but was still very enjoyable for what it was.

I watched both The Informant and A Serious Man last night. Both were great and completely reaffirmed my fondness for Steven Soderberg and the Coen Brothers respectively.

Watched The Princess and the Frog yesterday. Lived up to the hype of it being Disney's best traditional animated movie in years though interestingly it looked like Pixar had quite a bit of involvement.

I saw it at midnight opening night, also in 3D. I loved it.

It was very Narnia like, especially the ending. Even in the sense that Alice was returning to Wonderland and that her return and conquering of the Red Queen was prophetic.

I too loved Carter's performance, she was one of my favorites. I am a huge fan of Depp however and thought he did amazing as well.

I loved the relationship between Alice and Hatter and actually wanted them to get together at the end as well.

Also, loved the Hare. Thought he was hilarious. One of the best things about the movie was the Soundtrack. Avril's song, "Alice," is great and the main orchestra song of "Alice," was fantastic as well.
