Hall of Famer
I just found out that I have to get ALL 4 of my wisdom teeth yanked...March 22nd is the date.

I'm mad about the procedure, but what makes me madder is its DURING MY SPRING BREAK! 3-5 days of my spring break!

Damn.

Console me! Please?

I didn't actually find the procedure that bad myself, so maybe no consolation needed. :)

Of course I didn't think a root canal was that bad either so you kind of have to watch it with me. ;)

Actually soon after I posted this, I read on a few sites that the side effects are only mild pain, swelling, etc. etc.

However I did also find out that accidental damage to nerves near the Wisdom Tooth can cause permanent numbness to your jaw!

Aww I feel bad for you. Especially since its during your spring break. Were yours growing in wrong or something? Mine have almost grown in completely. It hurts sometimes but I just deal with the pain as opposed to getting them removed since technically you don't really need them.

I think they arre doing this.

---> ( )

Growing straight into the side of my other molar, or coming in at an angle, or something...Either way, if I don't remove them they will compact my teeth together and only cause more problems.

I just glanced at the schedule. We're playing Portland. Being a little hung-over from anesthesia might not be a bad thing.

;)

never had a wisdom tooth pulled, did have 4,yes 4 root canals done,THE SAME DAY,ya know what ,it was'nt that bad. That was back in the 80's,dental proceedures have come a long way.Your gonna be O.K................i hope...he he..
just kidding, you'll be fine

I had the same situation with mine-all 4 were impacted, and they started compacting my lower teeth together. If yours are growing on the surface it won't be a big deal, but if they are impacted like mine were, then you'll be out of commission for 2-3 days.

My mom said the nurse said it will be 3-5 days recovery, so it might be the worse situation...

But hey, I'll look on the bright side, I'll get some Vikadin for my trouble! :D

Medical always says that. I had the surgery Friday morning and was able to return to work/school on Monday. There was some pain, but it's only incapacitating for the first two days. Then you have painkillers and your face is really swollen for about a week.

Yeh I needed all four out too but only got 2 out, but a year later and I still need to get them out :-\

I went back to the dentist earlier this week just for a cleaning. My dentist says to me " Well every thing is fine, just make an appointment to get those other 3 out"...Fast forward to the receptionist desk, "So, we'll see you at the end of September." I respond, "Uh... Yeah!."

I am so sad.

What method are they going to do this? They put me to sleep and in a "surgical" room cuz they took out 4 random teeth to make room for my other teeth.

I felt your pain!

well like two months ago i had to have one of my wisdom teeth pulled out cuz it was actually nawing into my cheek...my dentist was like "hm looks like you are just eating away at yourself" so i got it pulled after i managed to get an emergency appointment....the entire night before i was litterally up the whole night dealing with a toothache...and ive had toothaches before...id take some aspirin and the pain would subside but that particular night took everything and tried everything to no avail...so i got it yanked the next morning...they pull them a lot quicker than i thought...i thought it was gonna be this long procedure but it really wasn't...i got it out with just novacaine...im not great with dealing with pain so i thought they'd have to knock me out...but it wasn't too bad...whats really painful and annoying is the pain that you soon face afterwards...thats gotta be IN MY LIFE the worst pain ive ever been through...but with their prescribed medication you should be okay

i still have my other three wisdom teeth in....and im not gonna go through the whole ordeal of getting them out until they start to cause problems for me again

my mom always ranked getting her wisdom teeth out as the second most painful thing she had to go through...first being child birth

Yeah, it's really not that bad. The only part that sucks is when you have to sit around all day holding a cloth to your mouth and pray you don't get sick of jampa juice

I've got three wisdom teeth -- two of which are impacted -- that I have no intention of having yanked.

Luckily (?) my dentist informed me that I apparently have a freakishly huge mouth and more than enough room to accommodate them without crowding.

Not sure if that is necessarily something to be proud of, but as long as it keeps me out of dental surgery, I'm good.

By the way, aren't you glad you started this thread? I'm sure all these posts have got to be putting you at ease.

all 4 of mine are impacted, i was supposed to get them out like a year ago. i will one of these years. hell i haven't even been to the dentist in a year. i've been SO bad. i plan on going when my mom gets back in town so she can arrange everything for me since i'm too busy right now to

Bottom line, I think what we are trying to say is that unless you are one of those REALLY rare cases that ends up asphixiating, or drowning in your own blood, or has the gaping gory wounds become infected with a flesh eating virus that consumes you from the inside out, there's really nothing to worry about. :p

So don't sweat it kid -- what could go wrong? ;)

I was 16 when I had all 4 of mine yanked, my mouth was too small for them to come in. The put me under (yeah, for laughing gas!), i vaguely remember being walked to the car after that, didn't wake up until the next day. They gave me pain killers, but it stopped hurting second or third day after. Looked like a chipmunk for about a week. NOT the most painful surgery I've ever gone through. Really nothing to worry about. You'll be fine.

Don't let them lie to you. I have a picture of me (that there is a snowball's chance in hell I would let ANY of you see) with my cheeks swollen like a chipmunk's. (did I spell that right?) I didn't go under, had LOTS of gas from my Uncle, who did the surgery, and actually enjoyed looking at him pull the teeth. The next week, however, was quite possibly the worst week of my life. I went through pills like they were going out of style.

Other than that though its not to bad. :)

Okay, surgurey been done for a while, the recovery is hopefully coming to a close (2-5 days my butt!) and I'll leave you all an update.

-I went in fully expecting to be put under for the operation, well...I was wrong. I did get FOURTEEN (14!) numbing shots, and a higher dose of happy gas than I've ever ben given before, which was the only good thing about this whole ordeal.
-The operation wasn;t bad except for the noise...It was horrible. Cracking and grinding and crushing and popping. It was horrible.
-Once the operation was done, I was numb eveywhere on my face below my forehead. I could barley swallow my saliva, and when I did it was pretty much all blood which almost made me puke.
-The rest of the first day just had me lying around in very bad pain. I tried to eat applesause, Jamba Juice (Which I eventually got down, little by little), and mashed potatoes. But The first day was just horrible.
-From there on out I was a bit sore, REALLY puffy, and just out of it. I could eat some things, mashed potatoes and jamba juice has been my diet for quite some time now.
-And finally these past few days I've been puffy, sore, but I'm feeling better. I still can't eat solids, though, which is getting frustrating. And I don't think I'm ever gonna want to eat mashed potatoes again.

And the worst of it all? Vocodin did NOTHING to me. Absolutey NOTHING.

^ugh! thanks for sharing

when i got my pulled...i got a nice little Percaset(sp? its obviously wrong i know) prescription...and it was wonderful..with the exception of the first time that i took one of the pills...and then actually drove to work...HA! Like i could actually do work on that stuff...on the car ride over there i was sweating big time...i got to work got into the elevator and leaned my face up against the buttons...stumbled out of the elevator and pretty much started ballin when somebody asked me how i was (they new i just a wisdom tooth out)...my boss was so worried she told me to sit in her office and don't do anything...so i sat strung out into in her office...at a little applesauce...i was there for about an hour doing nothing...before i started to feel ridiculously sick to my stomach...thats when i went home...drove all the way home and dizzy as can be (DO NOT EVER DO THIS) got in my house and laid out on my bed til i fell asleep...then everytime after that when i took it was fine...besides the mild case of nausea that i had...but other than that it took the pain away :)

Its weird how different that experience is for people. Now I admittedly take the whole tough guy routine to stupid levels at times and won't even admit to being hurt half the time, but that operation really and truly was no big deal for me, and it wasn't because I was grinning and bearing it. Gave me an IV drip (Penn's oral-maxillary surgery dept.) which keeps you nice and happy while all the crunching is going on, walked out a few hours later, popped the pads covering the wounds out a few hours after that, was eating semi-solid food (mashed potatoes, soft cooked veggies etc.) the next day, and had very little swelling. Took the antibiotics, but didn't use the pain medication after the first night + never missed a day of school or work. Just wasn't bad at all for me.

Sorry that your experience was otherwise. Sucks.

Consolation: I have 3 fillings due on April 14, I have a cavity under an old silver filling that's very close to being a root canal. And I also might have to get my wisdom teeth pulled. If that's so, I will demand from my dentist the warm and fuzzy goodness of Percocet. This'll be me at the pharmacy.

I had one in 2003 and I felt like Hoffman in Marathon Man. Modernized dental procedures haven't been all that good to me.

HOLY S***

OH YEA!

I managed to get some garic bread down with dinner tonight...However what I did to it wasn;t the conventional way of eating food. I gnawed a bit off with my front teeth then smashed it against the roof of my mouth until I could swallow it, lol...First real food I've eated in days, tho, and it tasted really good!
