Wow did we just catch a break? I'm sorry does that happen to us? To all those that wanted to see us roll the dice on a seriously risky big with the 12th pick... Indys trade today is not gonna make you happy... however to the rest of us that were still hopping that Augustin would drop, plus really didn't wanna mess with the bigs around the 12th pick... WOW ! what a relief... Augustin is the ANSWER ! a true PG with great vision that has all around game...

However its not over till its over and if the freak'n Pacers still take DJ Augustin then i will promise to hate them forver...

I'd be satisfied with Augustin considering how much worse it could've been with Alexander or something. However I still want Anthony Randolph, I know Petrie won't pick him if Augustin is on the board though and even if he's not on the board he still probably wouldn't pick him. However, it'd be nice if we could swing a deal for him.

I just looked at the measurments for the past 8 years. I can't find a single player DJ's size that has been successfull in the NBA. The top 2 are Nate Robinson and Speedy Claxton. Just something to keep in mind.

You could call it catching a break if a 5'10" no-defense PG is someone you want to make "your guy" for the next half dozen years or so. I thought we'd already been through that with Bibby and Williams and we were now looking for guys who are at least league average defenders at their position. What scares me is that Petrie would jump at the chance to draft Augustin if he's available and we all know it too. Does it even matter that his coach Reggie Theus has asked for players with size and toughness? No, of course not because we need a PG next year and Augustin will fill in nicely alongside whoever else Petrie can get for a MLE this summer to maintain our bottom of the lottery pace for at least one more season.

5'11" 175lbs and not lightning quick. And yes, all those things can make a difference unless you are one of the real special talents. What is his answer when Baron Davis drops a crossover and comes barreling into the lane? How does he respond when the SG switching out to challenge his jumper is 6'7" rather than 6'3"?

Maybe, we shall see -- does fill a need and has the right mentality for the position, which makes him worst case a viable backup. But you always have to be careful about drafting for need. No guarantee that this "need" pick would be any better than the guy we presumably let go via free agency thereafter (assumign Beno is good for about 13-14pts 5-6ast). This is a guy who you are pretty sure is going to know how to play in the league, but its not so easy seeing how he could dominate it. Its hard to jump up and down too hard in favor of anybody else at that position over D.J., since they all have significant questions. But I'd be willing to bet dollars to doughnuts that at least one of them, and likely more than one, has more high end.

I don't see Petrie trading Augustin for Hibbert.

He has a taller standing reach than Paul or Conley, he has a 35'' verticle, and he has good quickness? How exactly is that a lack of athleticism????

I really wonder how many people have even watched the guy play if they actually think he's slow. He's way faster than Mike ever was. He's closer to Bobby Jackson physically, than he is to Mike Bibby. He's got very good speed, he's a great passer and ball handler, he's a good shooter, and he might not be a great defender but his D is underrated. The only PG who defended Rose well(which I'm guessing is what people are ripping him for) was Chalmers. Westbrook didn't do a good job, Collison didn't, nobody did. He did decently vs guys like Chalmers and Collison.

Bibby was 6'1" and far stronger (and an awful defender).

Bobby was only about 5'11"/6'0", but he was a beast. Not to mention helluva athletic.

JWill was 6'1" (and another awful defender).

D.J., if he shows up, really smacks more of the days of Bobby Hurley (6'0" 165lb). Smart, unselfish, tried futilely on defense, but will have to battle being physically overmatched on a nightly basis. Doesn't mean he won't be more successful. But does mean that he is going to face that same challenge. Normally if you are tiny you have to be really quick (ala Chris Paul) to make up for it. D.J. is going to have to show some serious saavy in the league because almost every night the guy across from him is going to be bigger, stronger, and likely quicker, and its not as if we have a stopper over at OG to swing over and cover for him. Hope he's feisty -- he's going to need it.

Brevin Knight. Totally different sort of player in many regards, but that does show that an average height guy can play in the NBA if he's got enough game.

Besides, there hasn't been a very good player picked at #12 in ages*, so... I'm not expecting much.

If you want a little 5'11 back-up PG draft DJ Augustin - at #12. If you want a PG/Combo that dominated Augustin in every single one of their college match-ups draft 6'2 Mario Chalmers instead, or figure out a way to trade up and draft 6'3 Russell Westbrook - probably impossible. Better the Kings trade down if possible and grab Chalmers and someone else if they can swing another late 1st rounder.

I am all for getting DJ in a Kings uniform...I heard or read somewhere that Jay Bilas believes DJ is a better point guard than TJ Ford. Sure he is small and lacks athletic ability, but so did Bibby...Guards are usually 6'1...a 2 inch difference is not much in height...what is bad is when he gets switched out to a 2-guard, then we're in deep ****. Also DJ can get to the basket and penetrate, something Bibby did not do...A great draft would be drafting him, and getting a later first to draft Hibb

Brevin Knight was blindingly quick, one of the quickest guys who has played recently. Same with TJ Ford. Nate Robinson is a freak athlete. There's not a great track record for guys who are 5'11" and not freak athletes. We'll see with Augustin because he's a better passer than Jameer Nelson and a better shooter than Knight and Ford, but I think there are some legitimate concerns.

i would be so pissed if the kings picked roy hibbert. Hibbert is one of the least exciting players i have ever seen. Slow and extremely inconsistent. I would happy with randolph. Randolph looks like he could be similar to lamar odom which is nice, but augustine scarily reminds me of bibby. the last thing we want is a shorter mike bibby.

Augustine is like Bibby in a shooting sense, but as a passer, Augustine can see the floor...Knicks still might take him because they think Mikey D can make him run the team like a nash.

Wow! I don't know where to start, or even if I should. There were a lot of uneducated posts on the subject of Augustin. I'm being kind when I say that. First of all, there is no, and I mean no resemblence between Augustin and Mike Bibby. Bibby is, was, and probably always will be a score first and pass second pt guard. Augustin is the exact opposite of that. Augustin may not be fast, but he's quick. If you don't understand that, think quarter horse vrs thoroughbred. Until he had one bad game against Rose, and he's not the only one to have a bad game against Rose, everyone was in love with the guy.
I'm glad my wife isn't as fickle as some of you are, or she would have dumped me long ago. Augustin has the same standing reach as Connely, Paul, and several other pt guards in the league. The question isn't how tall he is. The question is, how good is he, and can he play in the NBA. How tall was Spud Webb? How tall was Tiny Archibald?

This is no means an indorsement of him. Actually, I hope the Kings don't pick him, but not because of who he is as a player, but because I like other players better.

It may be moot anyway, because the rumor is that Portland made a trade to move up to the 10th spot and they want a pt guard. The only one left at 10 will probably be Augustin.

Anyways, i know he is short but that should affect him to much. look at Chris paul, he is 6 foot withshoes. Paul is prolly as tall as augustin without shoes
