Welcome Jordan Farmar

I think people are seriously underrating Collison as a player. He was excellent for us in his first season here as a starter and played pretty darn well for us as a reserve last year when he was asked to play more as a SG than a PG.

Would I like to have a Chris Paul type PG next to Cousins, hell yeah but let's be realistic here. Cousins and Gay will be our primary offensive weapons for this upcoming season and there is sure to be enough offense from other spots on the floor with Collison, Afflalo, Lawson and Casspi capable of providing some scoring punch.

People suffer from short term memory here. They remember Gay from last season and think he is done, finished, unable to be the player he once was. It is absolute hogwash. The way he was used last season is completely different than the two previous seasons in Sacramento. I expect him to be returning to his 20/6/3 type season on pretty solid shooting percentage and overall a much better production. Cousins will continue to be Cousins and dominate against teams, but less so from behind the arc and more on the inside and in mid range area.

I think that we have a good coach in place who will play to the strengths of his roster. I think this team can make the play offs but that will depend on how quickly they soak up Jorger's schemes both offensively and defensively and how quickly the culture changes. I suspect we will come out of the blocks slower but showing signs of improvements and then have a stronger second half of the season. Is that going to be enough for a play off spot? I don't know but I do know that things are starting to change for the better and the players we have are in general good NBA players. Collison would start on quite a few teams out there. He is in the prime of his career and playing the best basketball of his life. VERY solid player on both ends of the court.

He is no Mike Conley bit their games are similar and I am sure coach Joerger can work with that. Plus there is some real solid depth behind him now. There is veteran stability at position now provided Lawson can keep on track.
I like Collison. We don't need more than he can give although if he was traded or replaced for someone better, that would be OK. Anyway, what we have at pg is fine as I was afraid Vlade might go after a star level pg. As it is very unlikely we can trade DC, I want BADLY to avoid the problems we had last year with him at sg. I wanted a pg that could cause people to yawn and that's what we got.

For the first year since the beginning of time, I am not looking forward to this year. That said, I think getting a mediocre pg was a good idea. The last thing we needed was a starter quality pg as then we would recreate what I thought was a real problem last year and that was the need to have DC as a sg. He can shoot. This year we can have DC as a starter and a real sg as a starter. DC needs some minutes and this is a way of getting him minutes. Yes, our pgs are not spectacular but I am suspecting Joeger is fine with having a team built around big guys and not small guys. To hell with this being a pg league. It may be such because there are not many skilled big guys. Now we have oodles of big guys and we can test to see if a small guy centered team can beat a big guy centercd team.

It is unlikely we will win the NBA championship.
I think if you were excited going into last season, this season should garner no less excitement. We have a coach that on paper should mesh well with Cousins, we upgraded SG to at least be serviceable, many (me included) feel Rondo hurt the team more than helped( Always playing 4 on 5 on offense, actually closer to 3 on 5 considering we played guys like Willie and Kosta alongside Cousins, terrible defensively, hunted for steals and assists). PG is obviously the biggest worry, especially the Collison suspension aspect. The team should be better defensively. Overall I think we might look similar to the 9-5 Malone Kings in terms of playstyle, wins? who knows.

I hope you are right and in moments of optimism (my usual state of mind) I think like this. The key is the coach.

I think that Team that went 9 and 5 under Malone is exactly what Joerger and Turner are going to try and emulate. Now whether it translates into wins right away or not is another story. That was at the beginning of Malones second season so the Fellas had been running those schemes for a season already when they started to have a little flicker of defensive success. Then as we know Boogie got sick and the Gerbil and Crewcut threw Malone under the bus.

If the wins don't come immediately I hope Ownership and the Front Office are prepared to be patient. I know most Kings Fans won't be.

Sorry, no time to be patient. If boogie was signed for 3 more years after this one, then we could trust the process and develop the proper way.

But we are on a 1 year clock to get cousins on an extension. If he doesnt next season we have no choice but to trade him. So no, we cant be patient with wins if we want boogie here longterm

I agree with you. However our current front office has to proceed with the hand it has been dealt. Doing what you can with what you have to by all means keep the best center in the league, while also keeping an eye on the very real possibility we may lose him no matter what we do.

It is a precarious position that in the long run has to be about the franchise as a whole. Boogie is my favorite player in the league and I hope we find some way some how to not only retain him but to finally rise from the ashes and start winning again. A lot.

It is my hope to see the Kings finally making some serious noise again in the NBA WITH Cousins reaping some accolades for being a major part of it.

Nothing like the signing of a mediocre vet to bring out Kings fans' inner Woody Allen (the insecure neuroticism part, not the rapey child molester part).

Not surprised in the slightest that we re-signed Farmer. He was a bit unlucky not to stay on the roster. Only got pushed out due to numbers game.

He only got pushed out because Boogie was not a team leader enough to give up his roster spot for us to keep Farmar. :p
I think They have more minutes for him since Cousins can't stop fouling or stay in games.

Not sure about you but the team to me has looked better with Farmer running the point that it has with Lawson. Farmer provides that spot up shooting option. Lawson is passing up open shots as he seriously lacks confidence in his shot.

It would not surprise me in the slightest of Lawson is the one that is cut when Collison returns and the sooner he returns the better for this team.

I noted something similar in the game thread.

Frankly, I haven't been impressed that much with Lawson, and maybe when Collison returns, the Kings should release Lawson and keep Farmar. At least he can shoot the ball, and he's a competent backup.

Be nifty to actually trade Lawson if he were to go, but maybe not given we got him for nothing and not making the grade with us would not be a good sign.

Maybe we could shift him to the Pels as sort of some goodwill gesture. ;)
