Webber coming back? (merged)

Thanks for the post, Rock. I found it interesting that Webb says he hasn't decided on a team yet.

I hope that he has realize that he can't be a starter on the championship contender anymore because he can really be dangerous, very dangerous in the 2nd unit. I think that he would perfectly fit in New Orleans and he can play an important role too

I'll be happy wherever he goes (other than the Lakers). As long as he's on the court I'm happy.

he should go to the rockets or celtics... the spurs dont need him and miami isnt really a contender this season...

I heard CWebb was in town a few weeks ago working out. I forget the name of the trainer he was working out with.

Glad to see Webb is coming back, I would say Cleveland or the Rockets could use him the most. I hope to god he dosen't become a Celtic or Laker.

Could it be the Lakers that he might have signed with? The reason being is Andrew Bynum will be out for 8 weeks.

The Rise Guys just teased a bit hinting that it might be the Lakers (hinted LA Times, I think).

All I could find there was this:

The Lakers have 14 players under contract and can add one more if they wish. They have reached out to free agent Chris Webber and might contact P.J. Brown, each of whom are forward-center types who have not played this season.

Thus, the Lakers are sifting through the free-agent bin and coming up with such names as Chris Webber, P.J. Brown and DJ Mbenga.

The Lakers were intrigued by Webber a year ago and have been in contact with his representatives. They think he fits the mold of a triangle-offense player -- good passer, good jump shot -- but are concerned about his physical condition.

Webber, who will be 35 in March, has not played since last season. He averaged 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 29.9 minutes in 61 games with Philadelphia and Detroit, but did not re-sign with the Pistons after their playoff run.

He has been contacted by other unspecified teams and will make up his mind this week, his agent said.

"We've talked to the Lakers organization several times prior to Andrew's unfortunate injury," said Webber's agent, Aaron Goodwin. "Obviously, they're a much better team with Andrew playing than they are without him. I think [Webber] will make a decision where he's going to play this week."

Unlike last season, a starting spot is not a prerequisite for Webber, Goodwin said.

"He wants to fit in," Goodwin said. "That's not an issue."

Goodwin also said Webber was in shape and would be "ready to go."

Thiis is great news. I just want C-webb back on the court.

There are three teams I wouldn't want him to sign with but as long as it's what makes him happy, I'll be rooting for him. :)

Thanks for the link, Rock. I watched the full interview video. Good to see CWebb! :) He pick Kobe as the first player he'll have if he was to make a NBA team!

Would it be sad to see Chris win a ring with the lakers (if at all that happens, i dont think they are championship material yet but after 36 games and nearing halfway mark they sit on top of the tough western conference then there is a chance i guess )

Probably stern is trying to revive the lakers celtics rivalry, if the lakers do play the celts in the finals they wouldnt take more than a game. It will be interesting for next year though and it will importantly bring back the interest in the finals, which has been missing for quite sometime now.

Of course it would be sad to see Webber win a ring with the Lakers. But, on the other hand, Webber didn't quit the Kings; the Kings traded him after he expressed a desire - more than once - to retire as a Sacramento King.

The only thing that would really tug at my heart would be to see Webber in Arco in the uniform of the Lakers. Anything outside of that I could live with. I just wish him the best whatever he chooses to do.

Now, about your delusion of the Lakers having a chance to win a championship this year? Yeah, dream on, Laker fan.

:)

yes

just because Lakers suck so bad that even Bavetta can't get them to the finals - it doesn't mean that the world has stopped

Have you checked the standings today??

Certainly not saying they'll make the finals, but they're not sucking so bad this year.......at least so far. ;)

Its all in the eyes of the beholder. They seem to suck as much as ever as far as I am concerned.

I have checked that standings and I have seen that we have too many wins. There might be some other teams on the standings but they are irrelevant. One day that may change but right now - we aren't there.

As for lakers - they can win 10 straight championships and they will still suck. it is not only the definition but moreover - it is way of life.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I do not hate the Lakers anymore. The reasons that I orginally despised them were their domination for 3 years and the arrogant attitude with which they played. As far as I see, neither factor is relevant in the current Lakers squad. The rivalry itself has lost a great deal of meaning to me with the departure of three Lakers I simply couldn't stand (Fox, Horry, and Shaq) and three Kings I simply adored (Webber, Christie, Divac).

I completely agree with this sentiment. When I watch Bynum out there, I just think to myself, whats there to hate here? the yellow and purple? I never hated the showtime lakers, rather it was the thuggin pistons that I hated back then.

When its not about my local team or my primary rooting interest, it becomes about rooting for or against certain players for me.

Same here, but I think as long as Kobe and PJ are still there, that's enough for me. Yeah, Fox and Shaq and Horry are gone, but that's not enough. And even when all traces of them are gone, I don't think I will ever "like" them.

Hating the Lakers is in my DNA, just like hating the Rams. It's about a lot more than a few players. Irrational? Hell, yes. But it is what it is...

DIE LAKER SCUM!!!

:p
