we can still sign and trade bonzi!?

Isn't Bonzi still are property? I know he didn't agree to our offer and we signed Solomon, but can we still get utility out of the situation or is he now going to sign with another team for less $?

What the heck is going on? We offer the most, he says he wants to stay in Sac and it's the organizations call, people love him hear and chant his name here in Sacto in the playoffs (many fans here consider him their favorite player), and then doesn't like the offer and thinks he should get $10M/yr for 5 years, which nobody is willing to do anywhere.
Since he is screwed, you think we can still get some good out of this crappy situation???
Well he might take the 800K we have ;)

He's not really our property any longer.

He can sign with us because we hold his Bird Rights allowing us to go over the cap to sign him (unlike other teams over the cap, who cant unless they use their MLE)...and we can then trade him to a team that wants him.

However, that's not going to happen since the Maloofs do not want to get into the luxury tax.

More or less, he and his agent played the wrong cards...and lost.

So now he's going to make less money, barring a sign and trade, but, as I said the Maloofs most likely wont go for that and the Kings have no reason to help him out.

And the really sad part is most teams are either a) full of sg's b) used their MLE or a part of it and c) want to avoid the tax

He really screwed himself bad imo.

Add in the fact he's going to be another year older...his value will never be higher...

He bit the dust hard.

was it made official that bonzi had askd for 5 yrs 50 million, or is that speculation. I think we should have gone as high as 43 over 5 mayber even 45, but i dont know obviously hell be usleless when he gets older but that just the nba thats how it goes players want security and thats usually what they get. To quote Anthony johnson " Unless the culture changes" players are gonna want more than there worth, especially when bonzi had a terrific post season, and that was after his leg injury. He said he was doing core work and yoga in the offseason. Overall i think it wsa a mistake to take john, and even a bigger mistake to not resign bonzi wells, even if his demand were unrealistc. Good teams gott deal with a little luxury tax and the other crap that comes along with excedding the salary cap.

Petrie made the correct move in not paying Bonzi what he wanted.

I don't agree with paying Salmons that much...but...

Bonzi is not worth 9 and 10 a year.

Regardless of WHAT the Kings final offer was OR what Philips counter offers were the gap was too great. And yess the Kings have no rights to Bonzi otehr than Bird rights which are lost if he walks.

BUT the kicker is that since no team HAS more than the MLE to offer him and no one MADE a qualifying offer, NOW almost the ONLY way Bonzi can get a more than the MLE would be if the KINGS aproached Philips with a sign and trade proposition. So as unlikely as the the nubers look it is enteriely possible that that a sign and trad to a team with an exception might go down IF they had a pice or two the Kings need.

Other wise Bonzi will probably have to take MLE for 2 years and try the FA market again.

I agree. I don't feel he is worth committing 5 years to at 10/yr.

For some reason I suddenly have hope. I wish I could obtain some absolute certainty on #'s and the possibility that Bonzaroo can still be signed and traded for some workable parts.

Then again, I thought there was going to more to the Webber trade.

neither is nene or wilcox, and jerome james isnt worth what hes paid, niether is kenyon martin really, or even chris bosh, same with ben wallace, shaq getting slower, tmacs injured too much, franchis and starburst whine too much.

It;s a fact players are overpaid, to keep the good ones you got to overpay as well, im sure we didnt have to go that high, no one else want bonzi, we didnt have to negotiate agsnt ourselves but we could have gone higher.

Pierce is looking for veteran help in Beantown -- Boston could be in play.

Houston would probably love to have him, but as you mentioned, they have nothing that anybody wants in return.

The problem with Boston is that in order for the S&T to work, the guy the Kings are getting back has to fit within Bonzi's salary range, and then the salary unloading would be treated as a separate deal (i.e. Pot and Hart for Boston's exemption). So, essentially Theo Ratliff or Wally, and I don't know that either of those guys is really worth it, not to mention that in order for the deal to work Bonzi would have to be making near $10 million at the start of his deal.

Dalembert might be a target in this scenario. S&T Bonzi, Potapenko and Hart for Dalembert and their trade exception? Might help Philly clear some salary.

Perhaps the nature of the league to overpay, but from a King's fan standpoint I certainly wouldn't count on Bonzi delivering 5 solid years in the future and would rather the Kings had more flexibility.

I'd like to have Dalembert, but...

...aren't we sick of dealing with Philly???;)

i think he will be signed and traded because it seems like bonzi and his agent want the money so bad that there is no way they will settle for the MLE, i think if they were going to do that then they already would have because the talks between them supposedly fell apart 10 days ago. so that means they are still talking and looking for a sign and trade IMO.

I don't know, I kinda doubt it.

Bonzi has zero say in it now...

It's up to the Kings.

And being the Maloofs have more then once came out and said they really aren't interested in dipping into the tax...I don't seem them doing it.

Similar situation with Cat a few years back.

But, on the good side...the Kings really hold the cards here...it's not as if they are worried about losing Bonzi for nothing, so...if they want the S&T, they'll be getting something of value to them...if not, they wont panic into making a move.

Bonzi is going to make a lot less money, no matter what.

At most, he gets the MLE...

He's lost money there.

He's going to be another year older...his value will never be higher...

He wont get another 5 year deal offer if he doesn't get one this season.

He and his agent played the wrong hand.

Kings had the best offer he was going to get, and he was still too greedy.

Tsk tsk to Bonzi
