Warriors fire Mark Jackson!!

Horrible decision! What more could the man have done? Team was crippled with injuries and they still won 51 games. On the other hand, it'll be good to see him back in the booth with Breen and Van Gundy again.

 vehemently disagree! he was horrible as an analyst, imo. when he got hired as a coach, it made me very happy specifically because I wouldn't have to hear him yell "hand down, man down" anymore. had some hope Reggie Miller would also be nabbed in some capacity by an NBA team for the same reason.

as for his being fired, he probably got as much out of the team as he could, but apparently this was as much about the atmosphere he created and personality concerns. can't say I care much, though. disagreed on a lot of things that Jackson did (his penchant for posting up everybody and running Curry into the ground, for instance), but whatever.

Office politics - life is not a meritocracy. He seems like a good guy, and good guys get crushed under the wheels of office politics all the time. I feel bad for him - from what I'm reading on various twitter feeds, it was inevitable. I bet deep down inside they wanted him out "for personal reasons" and the owners' kid probably picked quarrels with Jackson to provide fuel to get rid of him. There was probably nothing Mark could have done for himself here - just take the severance, heal up, and move on.

This was coming all along, signs were pointing to this. It's unfortunate too because I feel he had a good relationship with the players. Looks as if Golden State wants to hire a big name coach with a higher coaching pedigree.

Mark Jackson got jobbed; there's no coach that could have done better with that squad than what he did this season. He got fired because of the owner's unrealistic expectations. Lacob thinks that his team is a championship contender, and he's loud wrong. Like the 80s/90s Trailblazers and the 80s Hawks... and the late 00s/10s Hawks (and, tragically, the 00s Kings :( ), some teams are, unfortunately, destined to be playoff also-rans, and Lacob has the misfortune of owning one of those teams. The Warriors are never winning a championship with Stephen Curry as their best player, and they're probably never even going to make it to the conference finals.

It's not as if Lionel Hollins, or George Karl, or even Gregg Popovich or Phil Jackson could have taken the Warriors any further than what they got this season; they played to the maximum of their abilities. They are who we thought they were.

If you're looking at this purely from the self interest of the Kings, it's all good. Chaotic franchises with unhappy players are prime targets for future FA and trades.

Eh... I get it... don't have to like it but I get it. The Bosses like thee squad they built and don't want to take the heat so blame the coach when the team did not live up to their expectations. Not sure what player changes there will be. Now are they a soft scoring machine... sure. Could any other coach done any better with the squad? Who knows but no one could get them to the finals. Is Mark Jackson a good coach? Maybe, next stop will help tell the tale.

It's an obvious case where management didn't like him but don't want to say that publicly so they are using the didn't meet expectations excuse.

There seem to have been real problems there not concerning the play of the team on the court. He seemed at quiet war with half the organization. Wouldn't use one assistant coach. Another had to resign as part of some sort of scandal. Apparently was not on talking terms with Malone by the end. When I heard he had banished Jerry West from watching their practices that was...I mean who but an egomaniac does that?

None of the stories are clear enough to really know what was going on, but the distinct impression as that Mark Jackson was a jerk. Or at the very least insubordinate. Maybe kind of like what the Niners have been dealing with.

I could buy that happening. I still consider it eyeroll-worthy, but it's not as head-scratching as firing him for losing in the first round. I mean, Jackson isn't the best coach in the world (and, in fact, there are probably at least two unemployed coaches better), but it's not like any other coach could have gotten better results out of their personnel.

He probably didn't deserve to get fired, but I don't think he is a particularly good coach, either.

This is and will be a bigger story than it should be, because its Mark Jackson. I'll be interesting to see who they bring in now, though.

indeed. while i question the firing from a purely basketball standpoint (mostly because jackson had those warriors absolutely LAPPING UP his kool-aid, a rare thing in the contemporary nba), there was certainly still enough burning rubble to damn him to the offseason heap of fired head coaches: clashes with ownership, clashes with management, clashes with assistant coaches, banishing an nba legend from practices? couple those factors with his outsized personality and his outspoken religiosity, and you can effectively sketch the image of an egotistical, fairly inexperienced head coach who draws far too much [negative] attention to himself, considering the talented roster he was given to work with...

i tend to agree with the notion that jackson successfully took an overrated warriors squad about as far as it was going to go during his tenure. but i don't necessarily agree that he was going to be the right coach for that team going forward, apart from the fact that he was able to inspire unusually fierce loyalty from the majority of his players (acolytes?). as a motivational speaker, jackson could be considered a first-rate "leader of men." but as a head coach, he is a woefully limited tactician (scotty brooks has likewise been drawing heat for the same during a series of postseasons in which he's largely failed to adjust to the more imaginative schemes of his competition)...

point is, the right kind of hire in a post-jackson landscape may very well be enough to salvage the unexpected mess they're sorting through in oakland. i find them to be a fragile, injury-ridden, overrated bunch, but the warriors have a bevy of assets to throw on the trade block when it comes time to make the necessary moves to climb further up those brutal western conference standings. regardless, they're certainly an attractive destination for any prospective head coach...

I don't know about banishing the logo, may be just a rumor. What is not a rumor is that former NBA player and current GSW play by play man Jim Barnett used to participate in shoot around with the Warriors. Jackson put a stop to that his first season.

Jackson is a dickweed. He was a dickweed while he was here in Utah as a player and tried to divide the locker room against the statues (John and Karl). He has always been a egomaniac and I imagine he was is impossible to work with. I hated him as a broadcaster and was glad that he got hired as a head coach just so I wouldn't have to listen to him.
