2nd place.

Spurs and Kings 3-0.

The other teams with a better point differential have 2 wins or fewer.
We are second place among the 3-0 teams, but currently fifth place among the undefeated teams.

We are +38. The Raptors are +47, so if they win tomorrow, they definitely move ahead of us. The Pistons are +33, so if they win by 6 they move ahead. The Thunder are +28, so if they win by 11 they move ahead. Presumably none of them will be silly enough to throw away points at the end of the game like we did. We had a 35 point lead in the fourth quarter and let it drop to 18 at the end.

Still, any way you cut it we're in pretty dire position if we don't beat Cleveland. There will be at least one undefeated team, and as many as seven, but right now it's looking most likely that it will be 3-5 undefeated teams. So most likely at 3-1 we would be out, or optimistically if there are only 3 undefeated teams we'd have to have the best differential - our differential would be +37 or worse.

Anyway, I suppose we'll have a much clearer view of things after tomorrow.

IMO point differential is silly way to decide these things (especially with all the advanced statistics available today). But if they’re hellbent on using it, then it would make more sense to me to use the “largest lead of the game” by the winning team as the great separator.

Doing so would remedy teams having to leave their ‘A’ lineups in games just to maintain or further run up the score. Furthermore, using today’s win as an example, the biggest lead the KINGS held told more of the story of the game than did the end score — which was misleading.

If the Kings never took their foot off the gas it would have been great for the otherwise meaningless PD stat but would have looked childish. Pretty unforgivable to just quit playing with 2.5 minutes or so left and lost like 10 points on the PD though.

Nique is pretty much living up to his scouting report. Not quick enough to stick in front of fast players but great on team defense and you can't really bully him in the post. Offensive game looks about as polished as any veteran's. Only knock on him so far has been his decision making and passing accuracy at times. Other than that, the Kings have a real players on their hands.

DC spent the first 5 minutes playing as game 1 DC and then turned it up and went game 2 DC for the rest of the game. I wonder if Perry doesn't like him because he looks lazy and mildly disinterested out there? Almost like he's only attempting to put in the exact amount of energy that is required to get by but I think it's just his body language because when he's on, he's extremely effective. I'd hate to see him traded for anything other than a no brainer package and I'd hate to see his minutes eaten up by veterans who are not good enough to get us to the playoffs.

DPOG has to go to IC. It sucks that his scoring wasn't there tonight but his defense was incredible. I only noticed one defensive lapse from him all game long. He was dialed in and had the best +/- for a reason.

I'm not sold on Isaac Jones being an NBA player yet. He has some solid skills but I think he's the kind of guy you keep around and see what he can do in 2 years. He didn't get started playing ball until late and while he's a well above average G league player, he still needs to develop the skills that'll keep himself around in the NBA long term.

Cardwell might be one of the best defensive players and one of the worst offensive players I've ever seen in SL. I'm pretty sure he got a seasons worth of deflections on one defensive possession alone. If he could just get himself to Alex Len territory on offense (bad but playable), he could carve out a career as a backup 5.

Also Perry might wind up being a good GM but damn if he's not one of the last people I'd ever want to have a beer with. Reminds me of Lars Ulrich where he thinks everything he's saying is deep and profound.

Yeah, I think Cardwell could probably step on the floor tomorrow and be a NBA starting caliber C on defense. But my god, he might be the worst offensive player I've ever seen.

Still, if he just learns how to be a lob threat/clean up the offensive glass. That's enough for how good his defense can be.

If I was him I’d be shooting 500 threes a day just to try to add something to his bag. If he could shoot 32 percent from 3 he could probably carve out a long career as a third big.

Yeh it’s hard to know where to begin developing when he averaged 3 points in high school and 4 points in five years of college. If he makes an NBA roster I wonder if he will be the first to do so with a sub 5 points a game scoring average in college?

It doesn't help that he never played more than 15 MPG until his super-senior year, and then played 20 for that one season. With a full load of minutes his scoring would have been somewhat better (but still pretty lousy). His efficiency is great - but that's because he basically dunks and does nothing else.

I didn't realize his minutes were so low in college - I bet that playing 15 MPG for a college career might be less likely to make an NBA roster than 5 PPG.

He shot 32% from the FT line last season. I don't think he will ever even sniff 20% from 3 but if he could just catch the ball, make one move and finish, I'd be happy. At the moment he can't do the one move part.

Even with all that, he's still irrationally my favorite player in SL for some reason.

It could be that Devin Carter is confident and at ease on the court, kind of the opposite of Jake LaRavia, a demeanor that GMs (basketball, football) have been known to misinterpet.

Could be. He was also the only player in that play in that didn't look a little shook. Also the only + that night that played in meaningful minutes. That measured up against his rep of being an impact guy even with the numbers don't jump off the page. There is a reason tons of scouts list him as a player who makes winning plays.

I think a lot of this might be Carter coming into the middle of the season a little out of shape. He even made a joke IIRC about him working off his belly at one point last season. So far, it seems he got the message 100%. Now he has to keep going.

I just listened back to the Perry quote during the game and it did make me wonder if Scott has made a few assumptions about Devin based on the tape. I’m assuming he has received feedback from the coaching staff too but if you didn’t know who Devin was and just watched his games I could see how someone could come away thinking he doesn’t try hard and is out of shape. He is constantly slumping his shoulders and taking a breather with his hands on his knees. It stood out to me last year when he first came back from the injury but I just assumed he was working back into game shape. That body language continued all season though and he still does it now. It’s probably just his style.

Nothing irrational about high level defense - nothing at all.

Yogi Stewart was close. The only college season over 5 pts was his senior year when he averaged 6.3 pts a game. He played 8 years in the NBA.

Damn, that sleep walk to finish the Suns game might cost us SL playoffs.
Kinda is what it is. We obviously put the super scrubs in and I'm not down to leave our NBA guys on the floor, up 25, in a SL contest. There's experience to be gained of its a close game down the stretch, but in a blow out? Nah, think how mad we'd be of Nique turned an ankle in the last 2 minutes up 30

Yeah, it’s really not the Kings’ fault that the Suns played Ryan Dunn and Maluach against SAR’s son coming off of knee surgery and Caitlyn Clark’s boyfriend’s brother.
