Why the Jazz do this? To save millions. 1.7 million right now and 9 million next season. plus they add the scorer they need next to Williams.

Why the Kings do this? Well we get a top lotto pick this year and free up a lot of cap space for 2011 FA market. We also add another defender to the team.

I like the trade, but we force Utah to add Fesenko (defensive 7 footer, raw). This would help create a $2.5m trade exception for them which would cut back their lux tax woes.. Actually the could offload another player and they could wipe out their luxury tax problem (i think they're right around $4m over at this point in time).

We may see something like this end up happening. Pundits over at ESPN have been knockin' a trade similar to this around for about a week. I don't think they have influence over any GM's decisions at all, but to be able to turn around and package our own pick (#1-3 protected) +Noc / Beno to someone like Boston or Orlando for front line talent / a truck load of expirings is too juicy of a position to be in.

That is, if you think like me and no longer see a place for too many rookies on the squad next year.

to be perfectly honest, they stole the idea from RealGM, where we've been discussing multiple variations of this trade since Kmart went down

Is the Knicks pick protected ?

if it isn't - that would be gread deal for us and we would actually make playoffs next season

Ive said it before and ill say it again, a package that involves Martin+K9 should fetch a star player. Unless its a star bigman then the move would be lateral. A lateral move such as this would ultimately hurt the Kings because we would lose major bargaining pieces without moving forward. Its basically a trade just for the hell of it.

Not only we get a top draft pick we also position ourselfs for 2011 FA market with a big ender AK47. Also AK47 is no slouch either. He bring a defensive mentalitiy that is lacking on the Kings ATM.

Kevin Martin is no slouch either and Kenny Thomas is already a big ender. There isnt anything to gain from this trade. We're giving up a proven dynamic player for the possibility of drafting another one. It doesnt make good business sense.

That's not really true. We're giving up a proven player who plays in a position we don't necesarily need for tremendous capspace in two years, as well as a lottory pick to fetch a possible star level player at a position we need more (who is on a rookie deal).

Basically you turn all the money you spend on KT and Kmart into cap space in two years, which incidentally is before we have to extend all our youngsters. It means worst case if the draft pick stinks, we still have the money to go ahead and shop for a free agent that fits better than KMart. Best case you get a star level player with the draft choice for much cheaper than the 10 mil a year Kevin makes, and you have all the capspace difference between the two of them to add another high level piece after that.

I'm for this trade (and I'm a huge Kevin fan)

The other HUGE problem with the idea of trading Martin is that he and Evans have BARELY played together. You cant judge how well two players mesh with a sample size of 5 games. Nor can it be determined how well a player meshes with the entire team. One cant determine whether or not a player is needed until that player has actually played with the current team for a fair amount of time. We havent seen what the current Kings plus Kevin Martin looks like.
Theres always the option of Using Martins expiring contract as trade bait in a couple years.

Again I disagree with your argument. While it's true that Kmart and Tyreke haven't played together, that is pretty irrelevant to telling us whether wwe need Kevin or not.

So far this year we average 103.9 points per game. Assuming Donte/Beno have been our replacement shooting guards (arguable I know)

Donte has averaged:
18.7 mins 46%fg 51%ft 34.4%3pt 2.4rb 1.0apg .6st .6blks 8.2 ppg
Beno has averaged:
30.2 mins 53%fg 86%ft 43.4%3pt 2.4rb 3.9apg 1st .1blks 13.7ppg

that works out to your shooting guard spot providing:
21.9 ppg 4.8 rebounds 5 assists 1.6steals and 1 block in 48 minutes

in Kevins 5 games he averaged:
30.6 ppg 5.4 rebounds 2.6 assists 2 steals and .2 blocks in 42 minutes

So the main difference between the two pairings is a little more scoring with Kevin which I don't know if we need since we already score 103 a game. Strangely the length of contracts are similar between the Beno/Donte pairing and Kevins contract. The former costing roughly 3 million dollars less a year. The other deterrant to keeping Kevin is the fact that if you keep kevin, you still have Beno and Donte meaning your paying beno and donte to take less minutes even though they've proven they can effectively platoon the 2 guard spot. (none of this even includes Cisco)

I simply don't see the benefit in paying Kevin as highly as we would be given the production we've seen from his replacements. If you can get an asset like a lotto pick in a good lotto year and cap space it seems to me to be a no brainer as great as Kevin is.

As far as waiting for Kevin's contract to expire like you mentioned, we would be waiting for this season and 3 more to finish before it expires, so waiting a couple years and using it as an asset because he's expiring makes little sense. Added to that is the fact that Kevin won't be young at that point anymore either, and could carry more value as an expiring than as a player, whereas now he carries tremendous value as a player.
