I've said it before. Tony Allen, Teague, Martin will be better values. Yes Evans is better than MT, but just because MT is overpaid doesn't mean you keep overpaying other players. I don't view Evans ability to penetrate as something that isn't replaceable with a better offense focused around Cuz.
then this is where we're at odds. it is not easy to come by an elite penetrator in the nba, the kind of player that helps open up the game for those around him by forcing defenses to collapse at a moment's notice. you overpay because it's what you have to do. unless it isn't, obviously. if the kings can lock up tyreke at $8-10 million per, then great. but to expect to pay under market value is foolishness. you can snag a tony allen at any time. defensive role players are not hard to find when compared to franchise-altering talents. the kings grabbed toney douglas easy enough, and could re-sign him cheaply enough if they want to hold onto that infusion of defense in the back court...
role players like allen, teague, and martin are always up for grabs. the trick is to not overpay the roleplayers (like marcus thornton, for example. or chuck hayes, or any number of bad contracts that petrie and co. handed out in the last several years), because you can bet your *** you're gonna have to overpay for your all-star level talent. in the contemporary nba, you have to overpay for the potential of all-star level talent. is it ideal? of-****ing-course not. but it is what it is. if it's not 'reke you overpay, it'll be somebody else. #2's with 'reke's level of production and ceiling are going to cost you. simple as that...
