Tyreke Evans offered Qualifying Offer making him a Restricted Free Agent

I've said it before. Tony Allen, Teague, Martin will be better values. Yes Evans is better than MT, but just because MT is overpaid doesn't mean you keep overpaying other players. I don't view Evans ability to penetrate as something that isn't replaceable with a better offense focused around Cuz.
then this is where we're at odds. it is not easy to come by an elite penetrator in the nba, the kind of player that helps open up the game for those around him by forcing defenses to collapse at a moment's notice. you overpay because it's what you have to do. unless it isn't, obviously. if the kings can lock up tyreke at $8-10 million per, then great. but to expect to pay under market value is foolishness. you can snag a tony allen at any time. defensive role players are not hard to find when compared to franchise-altering talents. the kings grabbed toney douglas easy enough, and could re-sign him cheaply enough if they want to hold onto that infusion of defense in the back court...

role players like allen, teague, and martin are always up for grabs. the trick is to not overpay the roleplayers (like marcus thornton, for example. or chuck hayes, or any number of bad contracts that petrie and co. handed out in the last several years), because you can bet your *** you're gonna have to overpay for your all-star level talent. in the contemporary nba, you have to overpay for the potential of all-star level talent. is it ideal? of-****ing-course not. but it is what it is. if it's not 'reke you overpay, it'll be somebody else. #2's with 'reke's level of production and ceiling are going to cost you. simple as that...

Thank you for taking the time to reply. :)

I think with me part of my attitude was of the "shoot the messenger" variety. I don't want to lose Tyreke so I'm going to put my fingers in my ears and hum "la, la, la" when there are rumors, tweets, leaks, etc. that indicate it's a possibility.

It's nice to know you're lurking. We should have gotten you to participate in the Desert Island Music Album draft. ;)

Was Temple of the Dog taken?
Jagged Little Pill?
Marcy Playground?
I'm sure sgt pepper, eagles, ten were all long gone.

It's something that neither of us are to know until it happens. Hopefully Malone has some kind of structure and Evans can flourish in it.

In regard for your excuses comments, I didn't brush them aside. I just feel that they are coaches for a reason, and that they see a lot more than we can see. Sometimes they are right, and sometimes they are wrong, but I still believe that they know 100x more about what the players on the team are capable of doing than we do. We could be armchair coaches all we want, but in the end we aren't the ones with NBA coaching experience.
You know, I'll concede that Keith Smart, having seen Tyreke Evans in practice every day for two years, knows one hundred times more about what he is capable of than I do. He may even understand what he's capable of more than I do, which I do not, necessarily, concede, but will certainly allow for. I'll say it's at least... 70/30 that he understands what Evans is capable of better than I do.

What I do not, and will not, concede is that he made the best use of that knowledge, or even an adequate use of that knowledge. Keith Smart suffers from the same problem as many other bad coaches, a lack of flexibility. He has a system, Evans didn't fit into it, so he tried to make Evans a "round peg," rather than build a new peg board. And my biggest problem with that, which I must have repeated a couple of dozen times over the last two seasons, is that Smart did not, and does not, have the cache to get away with that. He's not a proven enough coach to say, "I have a system, and you have to fit into my system," but he did, anyway, and it was to the detriment of Evans' development.

I get that some of it has to be on the players, but I also understand that, at some point, unless the player is willing to be a complete system breaker and team cancer, he only gets to show what the coach lets him show. If the coach says, "Go stand in the corner," and the player doesn't choke him out, then the player is probably going to do what the coach says.

It's still in process. ;) Check it out in the Lounge but please do not mention artists/albums not yet drafted. You think people get upset about leaking Kings info? They'll march on you with pitchforks and torches if you give away one of their well-guarded and hopefully overlooked future picks.

:p

I had no idea what it was, never clicked on the thread. I should have played. I would have gotten pretty much every album I wanted. I would have free rolled the entire draft!

There are a lot of rumors that the Kings are gonna shake things up tonight. All things considered, as long as DFC stays in a Kings uniform, I'm gonna back the new regime. If it means saying goodbye to Evans, I'll have to accept it with the belief that our new ownership knows what they're doing to bring their vision to fruition.

As Carmichael Dave is fond of saying, I have 535 million reasons to support them.

Just spoke to the Evans camp. Scheduling conflict tonight. Free agency coming. Haven't heard any trade rumors regarding Tyreke.

I really don't want him to leave. He hasn't even been in a good system yet.

Signs are certainly pointing to Evans leaving. You can't tell me otherwise.

First Dave, now last second bailing on the draft party? If we were on the fence about him before, I can't imagine Vivek and co. are too happy about this. Advertising that he would be there for almost a month now. Don't buy the 'schedule conflict' excuse for a second. Like I said, he's been booked for this thing for a while now, and decides just an hour ago that he has a schedule conflict? And I'm not even knocking him. He has every right to not attend this.

I hope I'm wrong blah blah blah. Most of us want Evans. Just saying, not looking good. At all.

We better not let him walk. If he's leaving, get something for him.

Well now that I think about it, from the whole rally thing, they barely talked about Reke. It was all about DMC. If Reke does in fact leave, I hope he finds his place and show us all what hes capable of in a good system. I hope the new ownership knows what there doing. They better snag pieces that will replace Reke. Hard to replace a 2 way SG especially with his improvement last season plus hes only 23

Thing is, with Reke being in Sac, moving into th new house, showing up at a number of events, working out at the facility, positive tweets, if he suddenly backed out of the draft party I'd think it's because he was told something from someone on the inside, so I don't know how Vivek and comp could be surprised. It's most likely not a scheduling conflict, but him not going also most likely isn't due to tweets from CD either.

Could be. Sure, absolutely. The biggest point being he's likely gone, which isn't good.

Good news here.....

Lets hope the franchise feel the same way. Tyreke is really a model pro, I love that he wants to be here. A core of Tyreke/McLemore/Cuz is nothing to be sniffed at if we can surround it with the right talent.

Absolutely. It can work, but you need to add the right pieces. Salmons at SF will not fly.

You can sense some danger here for new ownership as the power agents are starting to interfere with the relationships with Reke and Cuz. Our front office will have to get itself organized and respectable in a hurry.

I called one of my acquaintances in Reke's camp. They were shocked about the rumor that Carmichael Dave tweeted about yesterday. Took them by surprise. Not surprised his agent told him to detach himself from the organization till a deal is done. He's flying out somewhere out East to prepare for free agency.
