Tyreke & Cousins - the Workout Program?

On the subject of Kings players working out in the offseason:

Not sure I mentioned this, but Doug Christie said he might be working with Donte Greene this offseason. Christie is training athletes now.

Apparently Donte learned from last year's coming-into-the-season-ready-to-box-Shaq debacle.

We will see if the training with Christie will do him some good. I won't hold my breathe though. It's hard to change a habit and Donte has a bad one.

True, but Donte's also still young enough to change his ways.

I wouldn't necessarily call it a habit. He came into his second season raring to go and heavily improved on his disastrous rookie season. It was just for whatever reason he went into the offseason last year intending to put on weight to play the four spot

Interesting listening to Donte's interview with Grant. Talks about wanting to be a glue guy like DC and how he's been working with Chris Paul whenever he was in Charlotte. He also acknowledges coming into the 3rd season out of shape and not deserving the starting role. Then he promises that its not going to happen again.

I mean I can understand that and all and I'm willing to give him one more season to prove if he can contribute to this team or not. But after a while, making excuses for him can get a little old. I mean he is in his 4th year now, no? While he has improved from his rookie year, I still need to see something from the guy in order to know if he's a keeper going forward or not. It's time to put up or shut up.

I think that's a fair take. Let's give up on the whole "donte can be our SF from heaven if only he plays like this every night" idea. If Donte can improve the consistency of his shot, keep the hustle on defense, improve his rebounding and just learn to be a veteran glue guy he'll be good enough for us to keep. Conditioning is one thing, but we also need our guys to be work on their basketball skills.

This is encouraging stuff....

But every offseason we hear the same thing. I'm gonna wait until training camp/preseason to get excited. (assuming no lockout)

It's hard to question if a player in the NBA is working hard or not. I think at least 90% of players work their butts off. The thing is though, is that you wanna get in shape, sure, but you also want to be improving your game. In this case, Evans needs to work on his shot off the dribble, a floater in the lane, and a spot up shot, in that order. I hope he's hired a legit shooting coach. He's not going to become elite at shooting over an offseason, but as long as he trains right it'll come sooner rather than later or in some cases, never.

Yeah, no brothers, sisters, distant uncles, aunts, or cousins need apply. Does anyone know if he hired a shooting coach? Or is going to coach himself?

I'm curious as well as far as who Reke is working out with. I mean let's hope it's someone better than last year who told him it's okay to lean back when wide open.
