Plenty of time to kill on the island. So, I'm glad to be getting a lot of bang for my buck with this next pick:

Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition - 2005 - PC

Well damn. I thought I should go with THPS and wait on this...looks like I should have done it the other way around. Solid pick.

Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition - 2005 - PC

First and foremost, this includes the original Neverwinter Nights, the award winning third-person adventure RPG based on the first MMORPG ran on AOL inspired by Dungeons and Dragons. The game itself is quite involved and lengthy with several chapters, quests, side-quests and a great deal of customization at its core.

In addition, this also comes with two expansion packs: (Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark) for new features and adventures

And while all that's nice and good, the real killer to this folks is the Aurora toolset allowing me to actually extend the already long life of the game by creating my own adventures, maps and content.

I've yet to be able to master this, but I'm sure after a few decades of hammer away at it, I'll learn.

Excellent pick -- after Baldur's 2 went I was seriously considering it for my next twain, and with the same reasoning -- I did master the Aurora, and basically it gives you infinite bang for your buck. You can create entire new games, play through them, create another, play through it, ad infinitum. As far as value picks to be stuck on an island forever with, that has to be right up there near the top. Now the SP campaigns kind of sucked, and the basic system was kind of frustrating, but there were tweaks and hacks for that too. Too bad you cannot take around all the custom stuff that was done for the game too by that community -- first person view hacks, hundreds of custom tilesets, custom objects, characters, creatures, templates, nude jiggly hacks...

Somehwo however I did not expect you to be a threat on that one, stuck as you were off in console land until this point.

So... while we wait... lots of RPG, FPS, and RTS games plus some platform and puzzle games have gone so far... Which is you overall favorite type of game (without giving titles of games not yet picked)?

I am a big fan of RTS games like Age of Empires II (that I selected). So fun.

Good story FPS (Half-Life, etc.) and Diablo-style games are my favorites, but I also like some RTS and puzzle/others as well.

I'm mostly a sports gamer, but interest has waned these last few years thanks to exclusivity deals. I guess I can stretch that to action sports and wrasslin games too, which with one huge exception not yet picked have also sucked lately. Rock Band has sucked up a good chunk of my gaming time since it came out. I'll occasionally get into a turn based RPG or strategy game or an old school fighter - my late teen/early college days were spent during the SFII/MK/SNK fighters prime.

For whatever reason FPS, RTS and MMORPG have rarely appealed to me and yet corner a very large chunk of market.

1) I am obviously not going to answer that in the middle of a draft where a little subterfuge can go a long ways.

2) And we do wait a lot in this one don't we? Guys/gals, just because you do get 24 hrs to pick does not mean that you therefore have to use it all. ;)

Aw come on, lighten up a bit, we can all obviously tell you are an RTS and RPG fan just from your picks.

I'm a big FPS and adventure game guy myself.

1) My answer was non-commital enough to not disclose anything my first 4 picks couldn't have told you.

2) I completely agree. There are a lot of picks between my last one and the next. Lets get moving!

I should add that I intentionally left out a now extinct genre that consumed a good chunk of my childhood in case one of the dinasours actually drafting chooses to go there :)

Be careful what you wish for...oh wait, I was working on grammar, umm...be careful for what you wish?

For my next pick:

256px-Betrayal_at_Krondor6.jpg

Betrayal at Krondor (PC) 1993

One of the best RPGs I have ever played. I have finished the game multiple times but I still have the urge at times to take it out and play it. Whenever I watch Lord of the Rings(one of my favorite movies of all time), it always remind me of this game.

Time for pick #4. I seem to be leaning PC heavy, so to continue that theme, I'll pick another favorite. I choose

Fable: The Lost Chapters (PC) 2005 .

[yt= Fable: The Lost Chapers]X4f1eDrqt_w[/yt]

Once you beat it, it becomes a bit repetitive, however, if you come back to it after a while it grips you in again. I love the continuous alignment calculation, and all of the side quests are really well done. The graphics are brilliant, the magic is entertaining, the character interaction is impressive, and the world is just so much fun to explore.

Fable features a character-customization system based on the concept that everything the main character does affects him to a certain extent, measurable through counters accessible through the game's menu, or more generally through his overall appearance, which will change depending on the player's choices. Eating too much causes the character to gain weight. Appeasing his wife will cause her to buy him presents, whereas abusing her leads to divorce. Drinking too much alcohol can cause him to become sick and vomit. The character will also obtain expressions throughout the game which can affect his personality.

Every article of clothing the character acquires will change his in-game appearance. He can be further customized through a variety of haircuts, facial hair, and tattoo cards that allow for a range of body modification options. The clothing, hairstyle, and tattoos the character wears will affect the way he is seen by the non-player characters.

The character's statistics also affect his outward appearance. High levels of Strength cause larger muscles, high levels of Skill increase height, and knowing high-level Will powers (magic spells) causes arcane tattoos to appear on the body and begin to glow.

The hero has a positive or negative alignment. Their actions will award either good points, which produce a positive alignment, or evil points, which produce a negative alignment. For example, killing monsters or saving villagers will result in achieving good points, whereas killing an innocent person, breaking laws, or abusing a spouse will accumulate evil points. The apparel of the character also affects his alignment; dark clothing earns evil points and bright clothing earns good points. The alignment affects not only the responses of the non-player characters but also the appearance of the character. A hero with an abundance of positive alignment will soon find a halo surrounding his head, butterflies swarming around him and his hair will turn blonde. An evil character will sprout horns, emit a red haze from around his legs, draw flies, and have glowing red eyes, in addition to balding.

Over the course of the game, the character ages physically. However, contrary to popular belief, the age of the character has nothing to do with how long the game has been played; rather, how many times the player has accessed experience upgrades in the Guild. Whether he is good or evil, his hair will start to turn white as he grows older. The apparent age of the character is related to the core skills he acquires; using magic often will cause the character to age faster.

Star Wars: Tie Fighter Collector's CD-ROM for PC

Swtiefightercd.jpg

I spent more of my childhood playing this game on the PC... putting down the rebel uprising and trying to meet of the emporer's secret objectives. I had all of the games in this series, but this was #1 in my book. C'mon, you are a pro tie-fighter pilot! I could play this game forever.

^^damn good pick! Had it far down my list and knew I had no chance at it. One of the most complicated games I ever played as a little kid. I remember me and my one friend, I used to go to his house and "co-pilot" i'd take control of the weapons, engines, and shields and he'd take care of navigating, targetting and whatever else. Man, now I really want to play it.

But, time to get serious about forming my list. I took HL2 as a risky #1 that might have lasted, then I got beat out by 2 picks for my 2nd favorite Zelda and hastily took a Zelda that probably would have lasted, and then I change dmy mind on my third pick and took SimCity.....that yeah, probably would have lasted. In the mean time, I've lost Final Fantasy III, my 2nd favorite RPG ever and the game I was going to pick here. So, what better to take here than my all-time #1 without a doubt favorite RPG that only FF3 even comes close to......

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Super Nintendo) - 1996

Square and Nintendo working on an RPG together. This game was just heaven. There's just something about this game I can't put my finger on right now that makes it the perfect RPG and probably my favorite Mario game in general. If you haven't played it and you are an RPG fan, check it out now. One of the classics.

No wayyy. I absolutely loved this game, and was hoping it would be overlooked. Great pick though

This probably would have been here at lot longer, but I've got to go ahead and take it since it was one of my all time favorite games

Super Punch Out - 1994 SNES

Who didn't love to fight Gabby Jay? You could literally put the controll down, go make a sandwich and come back and still win the fight

Not much longer, this was high on my list, good pick. And yeah, I beat Gabby Jay in like 11 seconds. But I think Piston Hurricane was my fastest time, he doesn't block punches at all

Time for another classic.

The Legend Of Zelda (1987) - NES

Review (GBA Version, still the same game as far as I can tell)

The one that started it all. I have so many different directions I wanted to go here, but I wasn't expecting this to fall back to me. I never technically finished this game (after you beat Ganon the dungeon locations change and you play again; never got around to beating it again), has anyone?

Well played...And no, I haven't beat the 2nd part yet either...yet.

My Pick:

Pokemon Blue/Red Version (Gameboy 1998)

Ha ha I know. I had to get this game put up on my list. So what if it is a kids game now, back in the day I was all over it.

Guitar Hero III Legends of Rock ----- PS3 - XBOX 360 - PS2

I am surprised that this has not been picked as of yet. Some of the purists might say the first or second was the best but I am going with #3 here.

That's because that was my next pick :p

My roommates and I were fortunate enough to be on T1 lines during this game's heyday. That's right, we were LPBs.

Quake (1996) - PC

Quake1.jpg

Frag your neighbor? Check.
Soundtrack by Trent Reznor of NIN? Check.
Pure awesomeness.

BTW, if any of you were in Quake rooms during that time, you were fragged by "Pretty in Pink." I wasn't a camper, though.

GREAT choice. Quit reading my list. ;)

from wiki:
Quake popularized several major advances in the 3D game genre: it uses polygonal 3D models for players and monsters instead of the prerendered sprites; and the world in which play takes place is created as a true 3D space, rather than a 2-dimensional map with height information which is then rendered to 3D. Some previous 3D games, such as Doom and Wolfenstein 3D (sometimes called 2.5D games) used a restricted-view mathematical trick when rendering their 3-dimensional view. This allowed a true 3D first-person viewpoint, but only when looking straight-ahead (you can tell the difference by tilting up and down in Duke Nukem 3D, which is achieved by distorting the straight-ahead view rather than really rotating the view.)

Quake was released just as the Internet was commercially coming of age, and much of Quake's popularity arose because it was one of the few games of its kind playable over the internet rather than just a local network.

Otay, time for me to hop into the shooter market:

F.E.A.R. (2005) - PC

Review
I've been playing shooters for a long time (oh, and if you've ever been shot in the back by WinsomeGerbil, that was me -- I don't fight fair :p), but this was a real beauty. Even beyond the very creepy supernatural atmospherics, which of course would lose some of their oomph after you'd played it for the dozenth time, what made this stand apart was the near cineamtic quality of its battles (it was like being inside The Matrix at times), and the incredible opponent A.I.. In fact of all the awards this one won, the one for 2005's Best A.I. might be the most significant here. Deprived of multiplayer, the A.I. opponents here are as close as you are going to get to human as they take cover (the first time I charged into a room and the guys in it flipped the couch over to use as cover I did a double take (and I think died), perform flanking maneuvers, have one guy suppress you while others move up, and generally are a pain in the ***. But a fun pain in the *** that promises much replay value.

And an early defining moment in this draft for me -- about a dozen really want/needs stashed up, and which way to go? So the double dip:

Deus Ex (2000) - PC

Review
A second shooter. But this one a different breed. A revolutionary FPS/RPG hybrid, its a cyberpunk fantasy set in a near future full of paranoia. The plot is a vast mismosh of every conspiracy theorist's worst nightmare, and takes you as a cybernetically enhanced superagent from New York, to Paris, to Hong Kong and all places in between -- the game is truly huge. And always in the dark -- dark plot, dark nightmare, and the whole thing takes place at night as well. Its playable again and again as not only can you heavily customize/modify your character in various different ways (your earn XP and are a cyborg capable of adding various different implants), but your in game choices change dialogue and the game's ending as well. This game has a huge cult following.
