I don't know how this board would pick this, but I need to get it on before its gone, so....

Baldur's Gate II (PC)
bg2-1.jpg

One of my favorite RPGs of all time. Great story and stupid long if you did all the side quests (which of course I did). Every once and awhile I pop it back on the computer and check it out.

Great pick! Scratch that one from my list.:(

It was not going to survive my next pair, so well played. Figured there was a solid chance my Jagged Alliance gambit would result in this, but could not risk that one.

Great, great pick. I had a hard time choosing between this and SMB3, as they are similar. In fact, if this were to be available my next pick, I'd probably feel obligated to take this one as well.

you went with the right first pick for mario though. nothing beats the tanooki suit!

BG 2 was starting out in the prison right?

The reason I didn't get into that one like I did with others like it is because you could only make one player.. I liked making a whole team to my liking rather than just one with all the other joining later..

OK I hate it when the guy right before me takes my next pick. So I am going to pick

Wonder Boy(original arcade)

I spent hours playing this game at the arcade. Cheap entertainment back in the day where 25 cents lasted well over an hour. I am actually looking to buy this arcade game. The master system version did even compare to the original arcade game.

And my next pick...Another SNES classic...

Final Fantasy VI --- SNES --- 1994

Another SNES RPG classic that has all one could ask for in an amazing RPG. A Great story, great turn-based gameplay, an amazing story featuring some of my most hated in-game characters of all time (Damn you Kefka and Ghestal!). Not only does it have all that, it is complete with 60+ hours of gameplay, 14 playable characters (all whom you can mold stat-wise with the Esper system) and a plethora of treasure and enemies to chase all over the world(s). The best part? I think you can beat this game, and pick it right back up again. Something truly important if stuck on a desert island!

Yup...I had either this one, Final Fantasy Anthology (FF5/FF6 on one disk w/ extras), and Final Fantasy VI Advance and my FF6 pick.

I decided to go with the classic. Anthology was a mess with craptastic loading times and although Advance is pretty great (playing it right now) I just decied the classic was the best of its time.

Wait...you went from Baldur's Gate 2 as your next pick to...Wonder Boy? :p

well, you've got my vote from here on out. :D

i'm still hunting around for a new copy of the GBA version.

ETA: technically, isn't your choice FFIII if it's the snes version?

damn it all

good pick

OK, I am short on time, so just the picks:

Diablo (1997) and Hellfire expansion pack (1997)

Obviously, the original game that got me (and millions of others) hooked on the Diablo series.

from wiki:

Diablo has been credited with creating a sub-genre of point-and-click action RPGs. Since 1999 many games have used the concepts introduced in Diablo and some have imitated the game. These games include Dungeon Siege, Mu Online, Sacred, Nox, RF Online, Titan Quest, Mythos, Spellforce, Champions of Norrath, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Drakengard, Dungeon Lords, Fate, Divine Divinity, Conquer Online, Darkstone, Throne of Darkness, and Dungeon Runners.

Random levels generated for each game, randomized monsters, and several classes to choose from made this very replayable. Again, I liked the sequel more, but you have to appreciate the original when it was released.

Going to deviate from the PC for a pick here, as I do want to also show some love for the arcade games I liked as well. One of them was:

Disks of Tron (arcade)

Couldn't find this one everywhere, but I loved this game. :D Graphics were much better than the original Tron game and the gameplay was more to my liking as well.

Yay Discs of Tron. They have this at Ground Kontrol (retro arcade) here in Portland. I play every time I go in for Rock Band nights.

I believe they released a version for Xbox 360 Arcade. Not sure how it would play without the proper controls though.

Wow... now people are hitting my list! Nice pickup. One of the all-time great arcade game/experiences.

Ahhhh here goes m first pick where Im totally split...

Grand Theft Auto III --- PS2 --- 2001

Actually this was the only GTA game in the modern series to be anywhere close to my list. This game was phenomenal when you think of it "In it's prime." The jump from early GTA's to this one was enough to make my jaw drop. This is also the game that seemed spawned the new-age of open-ended criminal 3D shooters...And this game sticks out to my for having one of the best talk-radio stations of all time...Chatterbox!

Halo: Combat Evolved (2001) - Xbox

I would have pick this earlier but I thought it was already taken. For me there is only one game that lives up to it's hype and this is the one. Part 2 and 3 were very good but nothing beats the story and single game mode of the original. The chase/race chapter in last part of the game was unbelievable.

Woot, I'm up!

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 [Playstation/N64/Everything]

TonyHawk%27sProSkater2Nintendo64.jpg

Sure you could go with another THPS, but I'm old school. Many a wasted hours playing this and trying to land those damn combos. So good I may need to find this on some *ahem* sketchy sites.

Plenty of time to kill on the island. So, I'm glad to be getting a lot of bang for my buck with this next pick:

005472225-big.jpg

Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition - 2005 - PC

First and foremost, this includes the original Neverwinter Nights, the award winning third-person adventure RPG based on the first MMORPG ran on AOL inspired by Dungeons and Dragons. The game itself is quite involved and lengthy with several chapters, quests, side-quests and a great deal of customization at its core.

In addition, this also comes with two expansion packs: (Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark) for new features and adventures

And while all that's nice and good, the real killer to this folks is the Aurora toolset allowing me to actually extend the already long life of the game by creating my own adventures, maps and content.

I've yet to be able to master this, but I'm sure after a few decades of hammering away at it, I'll learn.

NN is a good pick. I found it a bit "slow" for my taste though. Hard to explain exactly what I mean, but I did enjoy it a lot.

This was the best one by a longshot, very sad what this series became as I think only one sequel even comes close to this. Dreamcast version was probably the best.
