Tropical Island Music Artist Draft - FINIS

Blech. :p

If I had to hear "Love Shack" one more time growing up I may have been forced to hunt each and every one of those pissers down and stab them to death with a spork.
Yeah, Love Shack is not my favorite, either. I picked them because their earlier catalog (Before Ricky Wilson died) is exceptional.... Cosmic Thing is post Ricky Wilson.

Well it looks like the majority has already voted for 30 anyway. Officially I'll go with a no, although I'm not overly concerned either way. I figured people would be trying to cut down on the number of rounds this draft has so we can move on to the hotties, not the other way around.. But just a heads up that life is gonna start to get pretty hectic for me in the next week or so. Which is the reasoning behind my "no" vote

I can go either way. I can go on forever if people want that, but it's not something I'd push for. The time I'm spending on picks has gone way down on these last few (although that's partly because my turn has been coming up when I'm home and the computer's off), so my quality might suffer (;)). But that doesn't really bother me so 30+ is fine.

Thus far its pretty much 9-1-1 on the 30 question, although enthusiasm is waning in certain quarters. :p

Want to hear from dukes, Dime, webbfan and kingsnation. I can count as a 10th 30 works vote. Just want to make sure that nobody has a major problem with it that's going to cause them to drop out or whatnot. Like I said before, do think 30 is the final extension though. We've had a damn good draft I think, don't want to mess it up by leaving the lasting memory being it just extending out until people start to lose interest. Go out on top I say! Leave 'em begging for more! The early bird catches the worm! There's no I in team! er... When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?

I like the album, but as NoBonus hinted, Cosmic Thing was a big drop off from their earlier stuff. Mesopotamia, Whammy!, Wild Planet, and their self titled debut are just great albums.

The links aren't obvious enough, but there are youtubes up there.

I am fine if we go 30 :)

We have the option to set the time to the Pacific zone if that's where we live. Any other problem with the server is probably out of Jeremy's control.

So, with that being said - how close is dukes to timing out? Do we go by Henkel's David Byrne pick which (according to the board) was made at 9:58 am yesterday... or do we assume that it was actually made at around 1 or 2, thus giving dukes another 3 hours?

My user profile is set for Pacific, but the times are still coming up wonky after yesterday's outage. My guess is that Jeremy can do something about that - I seem to recall this happening before.

Yeah... it's not something we users can fix, but I think Glenn was saying it's likely a server issue, which means Jeremy can only contact the server administrators and tell them of the problem but he can't actually fix it himself.

I kinda sat out the run on the hair metal bands, so time for me to take one (contrary to popular belief, aside from a handful of songs I don't consider Bon Jovi hair metal, just hair).

I have 3 different ways I want to go with this pick, and it partly is determined whether or not we go 30... so I'm just going to go with the pick that I consider the least safe...

I'm going to go a bit slower and a bit more bluesy with this pick: Dire Straits

OK, so I couldn’t resist the Money For Nothing video shot (and you gotta admit, it was iconic). But great as that song was, Dire Straits was about more than just one big radio hit. Mostly they were about putting out long, slow, soulful blues rock. The second half of Brothers In Arms always brings me back to long car trips as a kid when my dad would put it on and I’d close my eyes and let the miles roll past, deep in thought - what better to lose myself in while alone on my island?

Years active: 1977-1995
Catalog: 6 studio albums (~5h), 3 live albums (~3.5h)
Landmark songs: Sultans of Swing, Tunnel of Love, Money For Nothing, Walk of Life, So Far Away
Songs I keep coming back to:
Brothers in Arms - despite several other radio hits, this really was the best song on the eponymous album
Romeo and Juliet - this one's been covered several times, but it's hard to top the original

How on earth did I forget about Dire Straits....LOVE Sultans of Swing and Brothers in Arms. Nice pick. That's twice now you've benefited from me not making a list :p
