Tropical Island Music Artist Draft - FINIS

Having a hard time deciding between a couple of picks here, so I'm gonna go in a different direction and maybe have my choice made for me. Time for another Canadian group, and again not sure if they're even known in the U.S.

Well, I suppose there are a few left out there (kind of all over the board, musically) that I could consider, but most of the O, Canada that I'd be after is already out of play. maybe after the draft you'll have to point me at the bands you think I ought to like - maybe we just haven't been introduced yet!
Sure thing.

Listened to Marry Me about 5 trillion times. Seemed a good idea at the time, did render me incapable of listening to it anymore though. I should really check out her other stuff. (read: good pick!)

View attachment 3908 ok, so you all get to voice opinion on this pick. if you're all good, then it's good.
I'm trying to take Andrew Lloyd Webber.
I know he's composed some wonderful music, just not sure he's performed enough of it in public. I know he does actually perform his work.

so, I'm going to bed now, I'll see your verdict in the morning.
this was a serious question on her part btw folks.

I'm no expert, but looking over Wikipedia and All Music.com I see many a composition, but no word regarding actual performances. From this perspective, Andrew Lloyd Webber is more of a composer than a music performer, and would therefore fall into the song-writer category vs. the "Music Artist" group.

Alot of different ways to go in the final 4 picks, but one thing I know for sure is that I want to add more reggae on my island. That being said, while they're probably safe until round 2,479 - I have to draft these guys:

Time for a band with a silly name: Toad the Wet Sprocket

The name “Toad the Wet Sprocket”, of course, was taken from a Monty Python sketch. Toad is one of the few bands I can honestly say I have deliberately labeled as my favorite band of all time, and although that was probably 15 years ago, I obviously never left them; they just got passed up by others. Well, with the extra picks in the draft I’ve got room to fit them in, even if they have more sentimental value to me than power in the draft.

Years active: 1986-1998, 2006-present (sheesh, nobody EVER breaks up!)
Catalog: 6 studio albums (~5h)
Landmark songs: All I Want, Walk On The Ocean, Fall Down, Little Heaven, Whatever I Fear
Songs I keep coming back to:
A little bit more country than usual for them, but just a little gem of a song:
I’m not so sure about the hair for their first two albums, but they took care of it eventually...

I really like this pick; forgot about these guys!

I only listened to her last record but it's great, one of the very best of the year. I'm going to see her live in late November.
I'm extremely jealous, unfortunately she didn't make a stop in Northern California on her current tour. Strange Mercy is my favorite so far this year, I just keep keep coming back to it and find new things to like about it each time. Definitely check out her previous two records, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Quick aside, I just found out that Annie Clark is Collaborating on a new Album with David Byrne. Excited to see how that turns out.

I'm in the same boat as NoBonus here. Great pick that for some reason I didn't even think about.

Thankfully webbfan gave me a little cheese shield with her pick, although maybe I don't need one, because that is exactly what this pick is about.

The 80's are a tough decade for me in a draft like this. I have a number of 80s artists, but for various reasons they are all artists that I take seriously despite whatever gobs of brie might be hanging off their ears from their passage through that decade. But there is this huge swath of 80s music that was just, well, fun. Not good. Just fun. And I feel like my list is sadly lacking in cheesy fun goodness. And for me that has always been prime one hit wonder territory. I probably have 100 fun one or two hit 80s artists in my catalog, but that doesn't do you much good in a "draft the artist's entire catalog" draft. So I needed someone who epitomized all that was cheese and all that was fun about 80s pop. Needed lots of hits, decent size catalog, guilty pleasures you tap your toe to, but only when nobody is watching. I needed:

Billy Idol :p
