Trade Suggestion: Fox for Simmons + #28

Here’s the deal on the 76ers. They absolutely could use the offensive talent abilities of Hield and Bagley. And if we gave them the pick at 9, they could swap that for another piece. Does that equal Simmons talent? Probs not but the 76ers need to win now in their window.

Kind of crappy to trade a #1 overall for such a disappointing package but they're getting a #2 overall from a few years later. Who isn't earning crazy money and in fact doesn't have a contract beyond this year if they aren't inclined to pay him. At the end of the day unless Simmons gets over whatever has broken him, that contract is an albatross. The Kings are a desperate franchise that is willing to take that risk and would also send back a similar level disappointment that is easier to get out of or at present should command a lot less on his second contract. It's a L but it's not the worst risk they could make. He'd probably operate well with Embiid.

Hield may not be the best player they can get but if they want shooting he's elite.

#9 and future picks are nothing to sneeze at either.

Bagley gets maybe a late first. At best.
Hield has value as a shooter, but he’s overpaid. So, at best, a late first.
9 is a lottery.
The other one or two firsts would be in the 20s if Simmons joins Fox and Hali.

If Simmons was on the Kings, this board would cry bloody murder for that type of return.
 
FWIW, On the first part of the Duncd On Mock Offseason, Simmons was traded for McColum and Anfernee Simons. The other offers were much much worse. Not that that really means much, but its means something.

If simmons were on the kings, half the board would crap on him about his ft and reluctance to shoot and would want to trade him pennies on the dollar to get him out of here if he ever said anything bad about sac. Just think a larger scale of bagley. For every fan that over values our players compared to other players, there’s another that undervalues ours compared to other players.

I'd say most likely to be in the 16-20 range. We're not going to jump to a top 4 in the west.

Hield is paid about half of what Simmons makes and at least he'll shoot the ball.

There’s some truth there, but there’s fan perception and league wide standards (all star and all nba teams) that Simmons has accomplished that none of the out going Kings have accomplished.

Futures would be 2023 and/or 2025 at a minimum. Plenty of time to be a top 4 team as others age or dissolve due to FA.

Obviously, Morey's job is to get all he can in trade, but seems to me that:
  1. Philly *needs* to lose Simmons at least as much as anyone else needs to acquire him;
  2. Simmons can't/won't shoot come playoff time and can't/won't deal very well with adversity;
  3. This talented but seriously flawed player is owed $145 million over the next four years; and,
  4. #s 1-3 are well known to all his prospective suitors.
Like Ainge before him, Morey's reputation is such that I imagine his peers are especially unwilling to be fleeced by him. Given all this, I doubt that treating them like chumps helps his cause.

Course, it takes only one GM to cut a bad deal...

It certainly seems like Philly's front office is posturing right now so they can gesture in the direction of major roster change without actually having to trade Simmons while his value is so low. Morey would have an easy out: "None of the deals on the table met my criteria for a return," even if his criteria are in the clouds, at present.

I suppose he could genuinely be trying to inflate the market for Simmons, but that would just smack of desperation. I can't imagine even the worst GM's around the league are buying it, for the reasons Woot! laid out:

That said, I still think Morey trades Simmons before next season begins. More than any of the above speculation, I genuinely think he's just waiting on Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal. They would both be perfect fits for the Sixers--offensively, at least--but they're also both currently occupying the weird, alienating middle ground of "I might be requesting a trade in the near future but you're just going to have to wait and see," so Morey has to fend off lesser offers in the meantime by countering with ridiculous demands that would equal or exceed the possibilities of landing Lillard or Beal. If he has any chance of prying either of those two guys away from their teams with a package centered around Ben Simmons, Morey is going to jump on it.

Of course, the risk is that he waits too long, that Dame and Beal don't follow through on their threats, or that the Blazers and Wizards refuse to cave if Dame and Beal do follow through, or that both franchises have no interest in Simmons, or that both franchises simply prefer other deals, or some combination of these... and then the lesser offers of yesterday that Morey has already rejected could very well become the best offers he can no longer get tomorrow as teams move on to other opportunities. Morey's in a tough spot this offseason. I remain so curious to see how it all plays out.
 
The biggest difference between Simmons and Lillard or Beal is that in one case you have a team moving on from a player and the other you have the players moving on from the team.

Everyone knows Philly's position here and they seem to be dramatically overplaying their hand. Unless they want to go to the trade deadline and then bet it all on a mid-season overhaul, they really aren't helping themselves.
 
Barnes, Bagley, Wright…we draft for them at 9 and next years first would work. They’d be much more balanced.

If the Buddy for Kuz/Harrel 22 works and we resign holmes

Fox/TD
Hali/Ramsey/JJ
Simmons/Woodard/MLE player/22 pick
Kuzma/Harrell
Holmes/Metu/Jones

I like that. A lot.

I think the biggest deal with Trez is that his option is due mid-August? So we either wait or do the deal with the chance he says he doesn't want to play for the Kings. I guess that's ok because the Lakers have to pick at 22 and then trade not another way around.
 
According to The Ringer's Kevin O'Conner on "The Mismatch" podcast, the San Antonio Spurs reportedly turned down an offer for Sixers' Ben Simmons.
And apparently, it was a steep price.
O'Conner says the 76ers wanted a haul from the Spurs that included the Spurs sending Philadelphia one of their young core players and much more.
"There's so much stuff floating out there right now about the Sixers having outrageous demands like wanting four first-round draft picks, and three pick swaps, and a young player from the Spurs they say now. All these deals you hear about are outrageous. Nobody will do it for Ben Simmons."​


Morey gonna keep asking til he finds someone dumb enough to agree. Luckily we fired the one guy that would probably do this trade
 
Is Morey dumb enough to think the price is actually going up with each passing day instead of dropping like a rock? There has not been one positive development in the "keep Simmons" camp that I have seen this whole time. If it's true that he has basically blocked their phone numbers and not taking calls what else is there?
