Don't we lose a scorer if IT leaves? What are we getting with rondo that will really make us better.
Without a real back up solution I'm not sure it matters.
Is this a serious question?

Rondo + DMC + a guy named Isiah Thomas.
Let's go retro and turn this team into the Bad Boys of the West.
Time to trade next year's first round pick to the Celtics together with Thornton and JT.
Next season is a win now season for DMC no point rooting for a lottery pick.
Get Rondo now to learn the plays with Gay and DMC. And aim for at least a second round of the playoffs next season.
I'm just getting tired of rooting for a great lottery picks for a decade now.
Yeah, you give up that draft pick and you're giving away a rim protector (which are extremely hard to find in the NBA).
Without a rim protector, you can't make the playoffs. If you do, it's a first round exit.
So, good luck with that.
Yeah, why wait if it can be done now.By next year I meant 2015 draft pick and this year's draft which has Embid, which I believe is the guys you are referring as the rim protector.
If you're saying someone will be a rim protector in the 2015 draft, good luck waiting on that kid as well as holding on DMC's patience.
First, Keith Smart isn't coaching the Kings anymore so the days of two smallish to midget-sized point guards starting together are behind us.
Second, we can't trade next year's pick because Chicago holds the rights to it
First, I don't have a statement saying Rondo and IT plays together. I'm going for Rondo as starter with IT 6th man where he excelled as well.
Second, I am referring to a 2015 draft pick not this Wiggins-Parker draft. If we make enough noise to reach the playoff with Rondo this season, the condition on the pick will be achieved by Bulls, which makes our 2015 rightfully a Kings pick and an asset for a trade.

I guess, man can dream. PO ship has sailed.ask OKC how well they did in the finals without a real low post presence. they were a strictly jump shooting team. i'm on the fence about pushing for playoffs this season. on one hand we can say yes, we're moving forward to playoffs but we will be severely handicapped in terms of salary flexibility. how many big salary players can you have on the team? from what people are saying on the board, gay will be paid in the 13+m/yr range. rondo is another big salary player. if they are all averaging in the 13m/yr range .. thats around 40m for 3 players. add in landry's 7m and we are at 47m. bmac will be up for an extension in a few years. if he is asking for 8-10m that ratchets up for 50m for 4 players. most teams field at least 14 players on the roster.
call me a pessimist but thats alot of salary commitment with no flexibility to make any moves. i look at chicago's roster constructed and all it took was an injury to rose for them to consider blowing it all up. why? they have all their $$$ tied up in middling players that can make the playoffs but not win it all. the result is cheering on a team that will eventually lose in the playoffs and a middle to late draft pick.
I bet Cousins wouldn't want Rondo as his teammate.

Dallas is on pace to win 46 games, so Kings better end their season on 32-11 run. Who's willing to go over on that? I'm taking bets. Speaking of financial situation with CBA adjustments finally out the way early eatimations on salary cap and LT threshold show $62.5 million and $76 million respectively, so Kings have decent flexibility as far as next off-season goes.

A lot of it is dependent on luck like the draft. It's a lottery. Some get lucky with a franchise player and others don't.
Imagine if we draft a future hall of famer
Cousins (future hall of famer)
Gay (all-star potential type of player)
Rondo (if we get him through trade another hall of famer)
3 hall of famers and a potential all star in the squad then you have Ben Mac who also might become a really good player in the future.
That would be quite a team and at that point you don't really need to have a stupendous bench. You just need one with veterans who can come in and maintain the level of competition that the starters bring to the court.
Now, for our "future hall of famer" aka draft pick, it would still take a couple years for him to develop (We're talking about a Wiggins or Parker or Embiid). Maybe only Parker is NBA ready but in that case we'd have to put Gay at SG or trade him as he will be an expiring next summer so every team would want him and in return we could get some proven veterans for him.
Gay will be a hard player to keep if we make another blockbuster move before the trade deadline. For example, if we get Rondo, then it will be hard to keep gay if we draft a Wiggins or Parker or even Gordan. However, if we draft a big or guard, then I could see us keeping Gay and resigning him unless we could trade for another SG with potential to shine in a year or two. But if you draft a scorer like Wiggins/Parker/Smart/etc then you can afford to give up IT or Gay as long as you gain on defense cause Gay is a good defender despite what some may believe. As his athleticism goes down, his defense will decrease no doubt but for now he is decent.
Then you would have Cousins/Draft Pick/(hopefully)-Ben Mac as your scorers and trade gay for a rim protector and IT + company for Rondo.
That would be quite a team when you add the veterans cause as I said earlier, Vets will come to you; you don't have to look for them because they'll see if your squad has potential to win the NBA championship or not.
You want those type of vets who are ready to go for it all rather than the subpar players who just want an extra million or two to get by later.
As for the salary cap, the FO knows what they have to do. They hire guys who handle money like it's their life. The only issue is whether the players are open and honest.
For example, with IT right now...In order to re-sign him, we have to cough up quite a bit of money. However, he's nowhere near a starting PG because he can't guard the opposing PG to save his life. Because of this, he can only be our 6th man. I think IT is too full of himself to consider staying with the Kings as a 6th man. Unfortunately for him, he will soon realize that it is the only role he is suited for. So, I think he will be traded very soon.
As for Rudy Gay, it depends how much the Kings offer him, but I have a feeling he will be very open and honest with the franchise about how much he is looking for if we offer a contract extension and what he wants from the team. This will all be interesting to deal with when the time comes because it can be a hit or miss. Obviously, we won't be able to offer him 15 million nor would he be worth it. Would he even play to his max potential once he gets his contract? That's another worry also. Maybe a 2 year 13 million per season contract might be worth it. But I doubt Rudy would go for that because he would probably want a 4 year contract.
By the time we are probably ready to be a serious team, Ben Mac's contract will have expired and he'll be costly as well if he turns out to be what everyone expects him to be.
So, overall, quite a bit of playing around to do. I know in the trade thread we only talk about Sanders, Rondo, and Stephenson but I feel like there's a lot of good player out there and 2015 will be a good free agent season for us to pick up that final piece, in my opinion. I think come 2016, we will be a playoff team and a good one at that.![]()
i stopped reading at the bolded area. lets be realistic here, if we get rondo we are looking at a late lotto pick.
I want Rondo sooooo baddd![]()

Did you just advocate putting Swaggy P on this team?

I am not sure we NEED to trade for Rondo. Rumor is that Ainge want to get Love and Mello to play with him next season, so I don't see a trade happening. After spending a year with two empty stat stuffers Rondo may run screaming next year. It would be a long shot at best but if we had a top offer and a crew he liked we might have a chance of signing him as an FA.
Ben McLemore, Derrick Williams, Travis Outlaw and the #8 pick might net Rondo if the Celtics were willing to deal him.
Jason Terry's expiring deal and their choice of Landry or Thompson MIGHT land Sanders if the Bucks decided to cut their losses. Should the Cavs pass on Embiid and Milwaukee nab him this becomes a bit more likely.
Rondo
Bargain FA shooter
Gay
Sanders
Cousins
is a hell of a lineup. If Gay were willing to sign a long term deal starting at $12 million that also opens up enough cap room to bring back IT as a sixth man/change of pace PG. Now, the only bench pieces remaining would be whoever was left of Landry/JT, Reggie Evans, Quincy Acy and Ray McCallum. If JT is gone to the Bucks then team would need a backup C as well as starting SG, backup SG and backup SF all on the cheap. Not impossible, but tons of money tied up in a core that features one player two seasons removed from a major injury in Rondo and two players that last year were at the low points of their careers in Gay (at least pre-trade) and Sanders.
Still, I don't think Ainge has any plans to deal Rondo anyway so it's just TDOS talk.
If the Celtics cannot get Kevin Love, they're likely to trade Rajon Rondo and start a rebuild process, reports @SteveBHoop.
I have long been saying that it would not surprise me if we re-engage discussion for Rondo come draft night especially if Gay stays with us. Gay and Rondo are close friends so it would not surprise.
If we replace Jeff Green + Rondo for Gay and IT I would do that no doubt. No picks no young players other than Derrick going to Boston, but if we have to include picks no thanks.
