Trade: Christie for Mobley (MERGED)

Not trying to infringe on anyones right to comment on how they feel about the trade, BUT, there's always a but. You might want to be informed on who the player(s) we traded for BEFORE jump to any conclusions.

This is one of the worst trades ever!!!

Its like trading Ben Wallace for Troy Murphy!

I hate to see Doug go like this, and it's too idealistic to think this could be our Rasheed Wallace-like move... but I'm willing to wait and see.

And to be honest we owe Petrie that respect.

I have always liked Mobley.

Forget Dougs D, the passing is what we will miss the most. I don't know how this will work out. Either the team will be better, worse, or the same. This could be the beginning of the end for this squad. Vlade gone, Doug gone, who's next.

I think Orlando fans don't like it because Mobley and Francis were buds.

Orlando fans don't like it cuz they don't know who the heck Doug Christie is....sure they prolly know of him...but they don't know him and what a great defender and all around good guy they are getting

to them they are losing one of their stars for some guy they don't know

Actually, you're wrong again. The other thread is an open letter of gratitude to Doug.

This thread is the "official" thread about everything related to the trade. People are posting their impressions. Some of them may talk more about Doug's defensive presence; others may discuss what they think the long-range benefits of the trade are. Some may even change their minds as more time goes by and the reality of the situation sinks in.

All you've done so far is make comments like "they are underselling Doug's defense."

Well, how? Where? Who? All I'm really saying is that instead of vague blanket criticisms of some of the posts here, quote one - just like you did mine - and let's discuss it instead of just generalizing about "a lot of people severely underplaying Doug's defense".

This thread is the "official" thread about everything related to the trade.

Uhm, then how am I wrong? You acted like I interrupted a catharsis, which the other thread obviously is. I think the comments about doug's defense were obvious, but I'll paste some here.

we dont lose any D whatsoever,

didn't lose much defensively.

Mobley can his hold his own on D and doesn't get beat off the dribble too much. Christie is still a defensive impact player though, even if he's been banged up and lost a step lately. To say they lost nothing or not much on defense is ridiculous.

PS: And I did not know Dave died last year. I am sorry to hear that. I remember when he first started calling radio shows after ugly games.

Truth be told I would be more pissed if I was a Magic fan. That Mobely/Francis backcourt was one of the best and had been for years.

Idle thought: Stojakovic's ppg average is going to drop by about 6-7 ppg...

And who the hell is going to play defense now?

Oh ,and one more thing:

It's impolite to speak ill of the deceased.

Who will pass those laser bean to Peja now? I predict Peja's number will drop at least 4-6 points a game.

He was the only one passing ball to Stojakovic, whos gonna pass it now ? Adelman?

Good point about the midseason trade, although I won't agree with you regarding the result. This type of move is uncommon for Petrie. Either he thought it was too good to pass up or the team was struggling too much to not make a move. I believe it's the former. I hate to see Doug go like this, and it's too idealistic to think this could be our Rasheed Wallace-like move... but I'm willing to wait and see.

Just when everyone was getting used to the kind of "new" kings.. everything turns upside down.. ah man thats how the nba goes..shocking..

What needs need to be addressed? We just picked up someone that is more athletic, a good penetrator, and can score forcing the D on the other team to cover all 5 guys not just 4?

Well does this team need more offense? No. They just scored 117 points in their last game and lost. Now athleticism is a need, but you are already giving up one of the Kings more athletic players to get some.

Could you please tell me WTH Orlando fans know about winning??

They DID go to the NBA finals a couple times.

Emotionally, I feel sad, Doug was a key part of the team from the time I started to follow them. This whole thread talks about heart, defense and intangibles that he brought.

All sentiment aside, we got the better deal. Youth is served, defense may have been lost but Doug wasn't his usual self this season and we all know it. Time will tell how it all plays out but a huge shakeup like this will prove whether the Kings are champs or chumps.

Why are people over-reacting, we got a good player, some people are saying we lost heart, well have you seen Mobley play, he has a lot of heart, hes a good guy and will most likely fit in well with this team, we weren't gonna have Christie forever, WE ROBBED MAGIC!

Very valid worry to have. But remember, at least defenses cannot clamp down exclusively on Peja anymore leaving the 2 guard open.

If Mobley can hold his own on D and doesn't get beat off the dribble (too much) we might need him to cover Bibby's assignments. ;)

You won't get any argument from me that DC is a "defensive impact player." I didn't see the posts you quoted as being indicative of what the majority or even a LOT of posters here feel. Sure, a couple of people may not think we've lost anything defensively but I think you have to agree that most of us are trying to balance the scales, to see if the loss we've incurred on one end can be justified at the other.

Bottom line, we now have Cuttino Mobley and Michael Bradley (please someone tell me he's not related to Shawn) in our lineup. Only time will tell if it was the right thing to do. Hopefully, CM will be able to adjust his game to what the Kings need.

I was talking about kingfans.com. Is there a bigger thread than the " Most baltant thread" in Kingsfans.com?
Maybe not right at the moment, but before we lost the database? You bet your ***; we've had way bigger threads than that.

Christie is near the end of his career, his foot has been bothering him for a long time and for most of this season he's been a non-factor. Look at Seattle and Phoenix, two of the best teams right now in the West. They've amassed offensive weapons and they go out there with 5 scary scorers on the floor for most of the game. Who are their defensive stoppers on the perimeter? The other thing is that Doug's defense has been slipping dramatically in the past year. He still gambles and it's clear he's lost a step because he doesn't make as many defensive plays as he used to. Losing him isn't going to hurt us as much as some people are thinking. Think of what has been happening these last few weeks, where we play horrible defense for part of the game with the starters out there and then the bench comes in and gets some stops to start a run and get us back in the game. Better to accentuate our strengths than just let Doug run out of gas as a non-factor.
