Thompson for Mayo

joemama

Starter
Thompson good solid double-double, Mayo good solid 20 pts.

Thompson could really play Pf OR C, Mayo would fit next to tyreke (he can sink an open shot or create his own).

Win win

Mayo would have to understand thta tyreke controls the team not him. If that can work than cool. What about korver. Not necessarily to start but a shooter?

While Memphis may in fact laugh at this, since Mayo is both small, does not play defense, and represents yet another misguided attempt to pair up another 20pt score (at least Mayo's incessant jockers keep trying to elevate him to that level) with Reke in the backcourt. And that probably ain't going to work folks.

Ray Allen would be perfect. Veteran, great shooter, good defender, high basketball IQ. He would be the best player to fill the 2 spot, even if I know that we have almost no chance to sign him. I'm pretty sure he will play for a contender next year.

Whoever it is, I think the thing that people are missing is that we don't need a star there -- at least not if the kids work out as expected. Every great team has 1 or 2 positions that are filled by roleplayers, which allow the stars at the other spots to do their things. If Cousins becomes an All Star caliber center, Landry is there as a 17ppg type PF, and one or the other of the SFs can average at least 15+, which seems quite likely, then that is more than enough offensive support for Reke, who could easily score 25 one day. Beno and Cisco (as well as JT and the other of Casspi/Greene off the bench) can easily provide enough offensive support for that kind of lineup, especially since we should be a good defensive team. If anything, what might be called for eventually is Doug Christie part 2. Not a scorer. But a stud at everything else.

Bingo.

No Mayo, Rudy Gay, Joe Johnson back there with Reke. Just get a solid shooter and a guy who can play defense, I'm still holding out hope Cisco can be that guy because realistically he's the very DEFINITION of what we are looking for back there.

What is the consensus on retaining Dominick McGuire? He could fill the shooter/defender/distributer role along with Francisco Garcia. He'd be cheap, young, and efficient when healthy...

I thought we already proved that to 20+ pt scorers can't exist next to each other.......did people forget about Martin? Failed experiment.

Mayo = shooter

Mayo worked out with team U.S. and even Kobe said he is complete. Mayo would like to play some more point, which isn't going to happen around here, but I respectfully think you guys are wrong.

He can shoot the three (I saw a game he made like 7-8 threes), he can pass, create.

I do see how you guys make a Martin comparison, but martin never passed, Mayo himself said he is looking to be more of a distributer.

He was impressive in his short stint. If he is on summer league team then very good sign. I think he is restricted FA tho'. Agree he could fill nice role.

I forgot all about that dude, he played well whenever he got in last year I have no problem seeing him get spot mins on the cheap especially if he works on that jumper.

All we need at the 2 is Doug Christie.

That type of ball hanlder, shooter, defender type. I would love a younger Shane Battier.

Cisco CAN be our guy.

2008-2009 Francisco Garcia
12.7 ppg
1.0 blk
1.2 stl
2.3 ast
3.4 reb
(.398) 3P%
(.820) FT%
1.72 TO

His numbers would have even been better this season, but the wrist injury really ruined his whole year. He is in his prime, and Im excited to see what he can do for us this year.

I'm hoping that the summer helps Cisco build his strength back up from his injury. I think late last season he would have gotten more of a look in the backcourt with Tyreke if he was more healthy. A lot of the qualities we are looking for, a healthy Cisco has.

I think Landry is the better target to move in a deal for a stronger backcourt.

He's an UFA, makes just 3 million and has a desirable skill-set for team(low post scorer)

Agreed I just think we need more depth in the backcourt.

Perhaps a vet that can play the 2/3 and another 1 on the roster that can hit the long ball and D it up would be ideal.

If I was to add another guy to the rotation, it might be a shooter. Anthony Morrow would fill that role perfectly.

But as it sits now, I would be ok with a three guard rotation between Tyreke, Beno and Cisco for most of the minutes.

Landry's skillset being desirable is exactly why you don't trade him unless he's going to be making a prohibitive paycheck.

I like Morrow as well. He is only 24, and last season averaged 13pts a game while shooting 46.8% (45.6% 3pt) from the field. He also can handle the ball fairly well. And unlike the Warrior's other SGs, he is actully big enough to play SG. He is 6'5, 210lbs.

Personally I don't want to move either Thompson or Landry. We've finally solidified our front court. So why would we want to start tearing it apart again. The idea right now is to add to what we already have and let it develop. Mayo would be great, but is luxury we really don't need. We don't need a star at SG. We just need someone capable of hitting the spot up shot and who also can handle the ball a little and play defense. I'm all for bringing back McGuire back and see what he can do. He didn't really have much of a shot last season. And he wouldn't cost much. I'd still like to add Jerome Randle if possible. Don't know if he has a commitment from another team or not, but he's a great change of tempo player that can really shoot the ball.

Cisco has the exact tools we need from our SG. He has the mentality also he just needs to stay healthy and stay within himself. I am perfectly happy with a Tyreke and Cisco backcourt.

Tyreke/Beno
Cisco/Beno/Greene/Casspi
Greene/Casspi/Landry
JT/Landry/Brockman
Cousins/Dalembert/JT

then get you a couple Ime Udoka's or Dom Mcquires and see what you can do.

I like Beno next to Reke... or a similar sort of player. Jordan had Armstrong, Paxson, and Kerr. Kobe had Fisher. Wade won with Jones. Beno fits in well in that group.

Actually my impression of OJ Mayo since he entered the league is that he's just been a very talented role player. Dogged defender, good shooter, can handle the ball. He kind of deferred to Gay and Randolph and was the third leading scorer on Memphis last year.

Maybe he wants to move onto bigger things, but so far he's played like a young Joe Dumars. Just doing things to help the team win. I think he'd be PERFECT next to Tyreke.

However, the owner just made a big thing about how they were trying to trade for Chris Paul, but that OJ Mayo was absolutely not part of the package. So if they're making a big deal about not trading him for Chris Paul, then I don't think they'll take JT.
