Took a tour through California Cavern today with my 7-year-old and a friend of mine. Had a good time climbing around through the caves. :D

Hiking up to feather falls this weekend, any tips from someone who has been there before?

Will be a first time for me, read a little about the different trails online. Should be a nice day but hopefully is doesn't rain anymore this week so the dirt dries up a bit.

Bring a snack/lunch and some water. It's a long walk, and a great place to eat lunch at. There are two trails, one is steeper and shorter (3.5ish miles) and one is longer but flatter (4ish miles). I like to take the steeper trail there (it's mostly downhill) and the flatter one back. The last time I went in April the ladybugs were everywhere at the creeks you cross. Bring a camera too, the falls are amazing. Enjoy :).

Are you a seasoned hiker? I advise you to prepare your clothes for ticks with Repel spray containing the chemical permethrin (sometimes called permenone), use sunblock on the back of your knees, wear shoes that support your ankles that also have non-slip soles, and take just enough food to make you wish that you had more (makes it feel more authentic). Ha! seriously, take lots of food and water. Just be well prepared. :D

Edit: be careful around the rocks too. Slipping is painful.

Thanks!:)

A lot of places I've read have it the other way around (maybe because of the distance?), but this makes more sense. I've seen pictures and read that the entire ground can be covered with ladybugs

I am anything but a seasoned hiker, lol. Its just one of those things a group of friends suggest to do together. I think (hope) one of my friends (the one suggesting it) has been there before but I am not sure. Hopefully the task will not be too daunting...

Will definitely have to go get some repellent.

I read about a few kids who have slipped and fell to their deaths :(, won't be getting too close, that's for sure.

Thanks! :)

It's really a pretty easy hike - a bit long if you're not used to hiking but not terribly strenuous.

The "main" destination of the hike is a viewing platform that is situated across from the falls (on an opposite face) and probably a hundred feet below the top of the falls. Slipping and falling to one's death is not very likely on the main hike. At all. But if you watch carefully as you climb out of the observation platform (less than a quarter mile) there's a subtle trail that heads off to the left, climbs a bit and carries on to the top of the falls. It's fantastic up there, and the nearest spot to the falls is enclosed by a chain link fence...but I wouldn't want to fall into one of the pools at the top. Just get caught by a bit of current and it's a looooong way to the bottom.

I have watched the show Glee for the first time tonight and OMG, that black lady can sing. I don't know her name, but she just gave me goose bumps. I will definitely be watching this show from now on.

...and in other news... Tyreke Evans will be the future Rookie of the Year credible yet uncomfirmed because that aren't allowed to speak on the subject sources say.

Just sayin'.

I just received a brand shiny used TI-nspire CAS calculator that I scored off eBay for 80 bucks.

It is quite easily the most incredible calculator I ever did behold. I feel like it will raise my intelligence via osmosis as I hold it. I would have paid full price for it. It's worth the 160+ that retailers want. You can type in math problems as they appear in a textbook and it will solve them. I'm giddy, it's like finding the holy grail! - kinda.

I **** you not, this thing is in-credible.

If they outlaw these in schools I will protest.

Two days later and I think I am more sore than I was the following morning. All in all, it was a nice hike. (Just don't know if I'd do it again, unless in I am in tip top shape)

The good: The weather was fabulous. Excellent view. Other hikers are very nice.

The bad: Took the recommended long way up and short way back. But, the way back was brutal.

Some pics (from my phone):

The other way around is definitely the way to go...Don't say you weren't warned ;).

Eating some Lays Sour Cream n Onion chips and started thinking. If one serving size is "About 17 chips", how the hell can you tell if the chips all range from 2 cm to 3 inches in diameter?

(x-4)^2 (y+2)^2
12 + 12 = 1

Can you graph it? I can now graph this in my head. This is a circle with a center at (4,-2) and a radius of 3.4641. I'm just so proud of myself that I had to let you friends of mine know! :D

*sigh* I'm a nerd.

Edit: math comes out looking strange here.
