I imagine a lot of people don't know what to expect from these spoken performances by people known for acting or performing in some kind of character or music production and get sad if it isn't what they expected. But who knows. There's so much retired wrestler content out there you might be wanting Stone Cold's podcast and getting something completely different. Something tells me Mark Calaway still keeps more than a small amount of kayfabe.

My brother got me a ticket to this tonight. Based on reviews I've read for previous shows, I should prepare to be disappointed. I am hoping those reviews are just from fans who are generally miserable no matter the current situation.

Sooo....

This was a complete 180 (and then some) from what I had originally expected going into the show last night. It was actually pretty freaking good, to be honest with you. I was under the impression, from reading reviews of previous shows, that some random dude (aka "The Hype Man") would come out at around 10p, hype the crowd up for about 30 minutes, and then bring THE Undertaker out. Boy, was I waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. "The Hype Man" came out for maybe a minute or two, before stepping aside for THE Undertaker. And then, THE Deadman OWNED that stage for a pretty good chunk of the next 2.5ish (+/-) hours. And then brings out one of his good friends...And boy, was the crowd pumped to see this guy...

And then, it was basically a bunch of storytelling with both going back and forth about stuff. Oh, and shots. No, not shots at each other, but these shots...

And they took shots of this...

Well, I use the word "they" VERY loosely here...Because THE Undertaker wanted no part of the shots after a while, but THE Godfather decided to be super obnoxious (and kind of annoying, to be honest with you), and kept on pouring shots every 5 minutes. So much so that the dude could barely walk off of the stage. It was pretty sad, actually.

Oh, and there was some random annoying chick (I'd use a different word here to describe her, but I won't) who decided to hijack one of the "Mini-Q&A Sessions" that THE Undertaker had throughout the night, walk up towards the stage, and straight up tried to call him out because she wasn't able to get her, some other gal (who I believe was her sister), and her two kids into the VIP Meet and Greet before the show because of some issue with her tickets. Apparently, they were fake tickets. I don't really know enough to pass final judgment, so I am not 100% certain if she got jacked out of an opportunity to meet THE Deadman. But I do know that she could have handled it much better than to walk up towards the stage and try to start a war of words with THE Deadman.

Overall, very pleased with the show, and I'd definitely go to something like this again, as long as a few things are cut out (i.e. THE Godfather wanting to take a shot every 5 minutes, and the annoying fan). Maybe some other retired wrestler will find inspiration, and spin up something like this at some point.

There’s a local former backyard fed, now low-level Indi fed in Sac called TWF. I watched it on the Public Access channel at midnight every week during my high school years.

As a freshman I went to their biggest show, Rio Mania. They’re now up to Rio Mania 20. I haven’t watched any of their stuff in many many years. But decided to go to this show, which is in a couple weeks.

Has anyone from that promotion made it to a larger stage? Even MLW, or someplace like that?
I don’t think any of the local talent have. I remember hearing a rumor back in the day that a guy from the early days (Landon Ramos) had an offer to move on up the wrestling world, but ended up not for whatever reason. Who knows how true that is though.

Looking through their Facebook and YouTube page, TWF has had people like Christina Von Eerie, Vinnie Massaro, and Stephan Bonnar (rip) on their shows over the past couple years.

speaking of deep indie promotions we don't have any folks in this little group that are in my old stomping grounds of Santa Barbara/central coast do we? I had a friend involved in some crazy promotion war out there a few years back and I'd love to get an outsider's perspective because I have no clue who to believe.

I'm sure a non-WWE Fatu or two have probably done a match or two for TWF at some point. Jacob's in MLW now and pretty much started his career in SoCal but his little brother still wrestles around the region last I heard.
