The Tankathon Thread (since that's apparently what this is now)

Kingster

Hall of Famer
If there were a sure-thing superstar at the top of the draft this year I could understand the consternation over end of the season wins but I think in this year's draft the players in the top 10 are all at about the same level or at least I don't think there's a strong consensus about the order. Earlier in the season there was a pretty solid top 4 and then everyone else but some of the guys in that second tier really turned up their performance in the second half of the season to the point where I don't see much separation anymore. Lower in the lottery you're going to have less choices, obviously, but I don't think there's a huge dropoff in talent.
Yeah, I also don't see the elite quality of say a Kareem or Duncan or Robinson or Embiid or LBJ in this draft. If there's somebody in this draft that is going increase the Kings win total next year by 10 or more by his impact on the floor, I'm not seeing it. With this draft I'd be happy with a player that could add five wins by his impact, and if he really could add seven or more by his impact I'd be extremely pleased.

This is true.

However, let's say we're sitting at 8 right and there's one left of the B tier prospects (let's say Davis).

I'd be just as happy with Davis as any of these other guys but the fact of the matter is if we're at 8 we're more likely to reach for TyTy or Duren than at 6 where we'd have our pick between Mathurin, Murray AND Davis, and then those two.
the problem the Kings have is their money and anchors are two players that have fairly rigid games and demand certain types of players around them. Both require shooters on the wing which are hard to acquire and we don’t have. Murray, Mathurin, and Griffin all fit the Bill but if we slide down to eight they will be gone if the past is any history. With really badly need Sharpe to declare and make one of them slide to eight.

they already have a minutes crunch with Davion, Dante and T. Davis all needing minutes. Add Davis to an already crowded back court that you spent trade assets to acquire is a problem. Duren fits poorly with Sabonis. Our most likely odds at this point is to go into next year massive fit issues.

I think part of the consternation is we need a decent forward in the worst way and historically they all go early. Williams was supposed to be around or Vassell. Both were gone before we picked. One of Giddey, Wagner or Kuminga were supposed to fall to us and none did.

if you slide to 8 or 9 a high chance exists that the BPA could be an under 6’4” guard.
It's funny you mention Vassell because Spotrac has him as an option for our team.
Does Spotrac know the future?

It’s down to the Spurs and Fakers now of who we can leap over. Spurs got one more game with Portland which we would only be able to tie at best if we win our remaining 4. Fakers are currently Leading against the Pelicans with a little time left. Assuming they win today and the Thunder the best we can do is tie with them if we win out also. Basically we gotta lose one more game and 7th is ours

Lebron is still Lebron. Meanwhile, Russ is out here airmailing threes and banging layups off the side of the rim.

One point game in LA. Pels ball with the lead. 14 seconds left.

Welp that didn’t work out. Now Vivek can only hope to get the 10 seed. A spurs win and a Kangz loss will officially eliminate us. Maybe he’ll try to tank properly after (he won’t)

Kings have the tiebreaker on the Spurs so if the Kings win out and the Spurs happen to lose every game aside from one, the Spurs would slide below the Kings in both seeding and lottery slot.

ah crap…. o_O Wait actually we just need to lose one and they win and it’ll be fine. I’m sure Pop wants to make the Play-in hopefully

Oh boy, that’s a big loss. If New Orleans beats the Clippers, I could see them benching all their players against us in hopes of a loss. They would have 35 wins with a game against the Blazers yet to come which would almost guaranteed them a spot in the play in and then they would hope the Lakers pass us to get the higher pick. Could be a stressful 4 games.

They have the Blazers again on Sunday so that's their one gimmie win. Unfortunately their four games after that are against bonafide playoff teams so there is a chance they go winless there.

They don't have the Lakers pick this year though. (traded it for Jonas)

Which would give them 33 Wins and we would just need to lose one game. I’m Kangz sure we gonna lose one of the last 4

Ooh, actually the Pels have a top 10 protection on the Lakers pick so you might be onto something there since it's currently sitting at 10.

Kings face
GSW (Missing Steph, sorta struggling without him)
Pels (Could possibly rest guys as outlined earlier)
Clippers (could be resting guys since they're currently 3 games up on New Orleans for the 8th seed)
Suns (Could be resting guys depending on how seeding plays out)

All four are playoff teams but we're the Kangz.

Tankathon has them receiving the Lakers pick and their own being sent to the Blazers?
Yeah, that Lakers pick was top ten protected in their trade for Jonas, which made their game tonight double important since it guaranteed the Lakers pick doesn't convey to the Grizzlies this season and pretty much guaranteed that they get to host the play-in game.

It’s hard to ig

So it goes to NO if its anywhere in the top ten and the Grizz if eleven +?

Basically we need Bron/AD to go 2-3 or better
Spurs to beat one more team besides the Blazers and the Kings to lose one of their final 4 games.

betting odds would favor all that happening but who knows

we may be better then dubs on Sunday but wouldn’t surprise me if we lost also. They’re desperate for a win (as they might lose the 4 seed now) and Klay always kills us

I don’t really see why Pels would rest since they trying to make the play-in (or are they not)

clippers got a ton of size on us and PG isn’t in game shape yet.

suns have already clinched the 1 seed but that team is legit good. We can easily lose to their backups too

Pels are pretty much a shoo-in for the 9th seed now unless they somehow manage to lose to the Blazers.

Clippers face a back-to-back of us and OKC to close out their year. Pretty sure Paul George isn't going to play in at least one of those games since I doubt they want to risk overplaying him before their play-in game(s).

Suns backups could very easily beat us but the last time we played, the game went to overtime and that was with Fox out and Sabonis hurting his knee early in the 4th quarter. Both guys are out right now, sure, but in a theoretical "win and we're in (the play-in)" situation, it is almost 100% guaranteed that those guys would be suiting up.

Then again, since we're the Kangz, we're probably getting blown out by the Warriors on Sunday and I parsed out these hypothetical scenarios for absolutely no reason.
