This just sucks. You can't trade this pick. Who in their right mind is going to trade you a good player for #7? Not a chance in hell. Yeah, I know, they'll trade you their Francisco Garcia equivalent for our #7.
You're stuck wallowing in the mire. It's all about trades/FA now. Exchanging FA $ for a player you want. There aren't any FAs who look intersting enough to bid on them outright.
What really rubs acid in the wound on this is Cleveland and Utah with infinitesimal odds getting the #1 and #3 pick. You could play ESPN draft lottery forever and not come up with that outcome.

Nope, we are miles under the cap, so we don't have to send them any contracts at all if we/they don't want to -- you only have to match if yo are over the cap. Advantage of being smart financialy the last few years. We can splurge here if we so choose.

Not suprised. Although I told myself I wouldn't get p*ssed this year. Yeah, that didn't happen. My gf wants to know how they can get screwed when it is ping pong balls being selected. Her analysis didn't make me feel better.
I think Omri + the pick might do it. He's pretty marketable to the right team/fanbase. I don't know that we'd have to send off JT as well - it would deplete the front court.

Let me get this straight. We won a coin flip with the jazz in order to get better chances of moving up in the draft... only to have the Jazz get the #3 and we get the #7...... what a load of bull. I'm starting to believe the only way for us to move up or even stay still in the draft spots is to own every single draft selection.... and even then I bet the NBA would find a way to screw us.

I have. Not to the extent I've seen Kanter though. I do see some similarities between Ves and AK47, but mostly on defense. He's a competitor, and plays very aggressively on both ends. Almost 7', long wingspan, and pretty athletic for a wing. Similar to Donte as well, but attacks the paint much more in the games I've seen. Doesn't settle for jumpers. Not much of a post game. Decent spot up shooter. I have a good friend who lives in Belgrade, and watches him frequently, and he says his spot up shot has really improved this year.
Along with AK, he does have similarities with Donte. The difference, and why I wouldn't mind taking him, is his mentality. He's naturally very aggressive, the opposite of Donte. He'd by a project, but his mentality gives me confidence. It would take time for him to contribute offensively, but I actually think he'd help defensively pretty early in the year, and he'd be a versatile defender. Could guard sf's, and stretch 4's.

I think we all knew Cleveland would win it after last summer. But I'm not upset as some of you here, mainly because I just didn't believe we were getting a top 3 pick this year unlike past years. 7 really sucks but we already have youth, we should trade it and hope to put a package together for a AI or Granger type of player, as has been discussed.

That would be counterproductive. The main attraction to Phily, as Brick has said, is the cap space. Iggy comes off the books. They dont have to take anything back in return, which gives them more options. They'd get Omri(a young prosect at the 3, which they could use,and his Israeli following), the 7th pick(another young prospect on a rookie deal), and $9-10M in cap space, which is the most important part. Philly wants flexibility. We can give it to them.

I really don't understand the fascination with Vesely. He has poor 3pt %'s, poor ft%'s, mediocre rebounding numbers, mediocre shot blocking numbers, poor ball handling, and he's already 21 years old. He's 6'11, there's no way he's going to stick at the 3 for long term, and he doesn't nearly have the skills to play the 4. He's a 21 year old project tweener forward.

I hope you're right, because I would do that deal in a second. I would even do a deal involving JT. Having a quality third big is a nice luxury, but Igloudala is such a good fit with his play making and defense.
Appreciate the breakdown. Sounds like a intriguing prospect due to his size and mentality. Like a lot of fans I'm interested in winning now, so I'm skeptical about drafting another prospect. Should be interesting to see what Petrie does with the pick in his biggest off season in over a decade.

Yeah, it's their opinion that Kanter's absence of competitive play on his resume, as well as his refusal to do competitive workouts, is hurting his draft stock. It's still early though, they monitor draft stock more than they predict it.

I've seen him about 2 or 3 times, but whether I've seen a player or not, I always take in multiple different opinions of them. There's a reason I'm not a professional scout.

We don't need another star, we need someone who can produce and given Geoff Petrie's track record, we'll probably get that (Douby aside).
Interesting in terms of parallels, 1998 was a lockout year and also the year we nabbed a solid (if not erratic) player with the 7th pick of the draft (J-Will) and used our cap space to sign a key player to our success (Vlade) The rest as they say is history. Let's hope that the parallels continue, eh?
