People up in SEA are saying Hansen could buy the team and stay in sac and try to get an arena deal done but they forget that NBA has said whoever buys the team needs to have an arena deal in place before they own the team. Hansen doesn't have an arena deal in sac and wont do one.

The idea, this source said, would be for Hansen to persuade NBA owners to support his efforts to buy the team, even if they do not immediately allow him to move it.

Guess I missed it. I thought he was suggesting H?B buy the Kings, despite the no move then still build in Seattle tfor NHL and eventual Kings move.

Hansen has been saying for three years his goal is to bring a team to Seattle. He has told the NBA and even cooks bankruptcy lawyer that he will only buy the team if relocation is approved. Is he going to sing a new song now? NBA will not have any of it. NBA knows what Hansen's goal is. The NBA has also made it very clear that whoever owns the Kings needs to have an arena deal in place before they approve ownership. Hansen does not have an arena deal in place with sacramento and he will not do one. There is zero chance NBA will grant ownership if relocation is denied.

Again, these sources are almost always Maloofian in nature. Not a chance. Seattle's agreement with the Maloofs was to buy the team only if they could move it. No way in he** will the NBA allow Seattle to buy the team and keep it here. Makes no sense at all. No arena deal. Guaranteed fan issues. Another few years (if that!) of Sacramento wondering if the team is going. On and on and on (and not the ABBA song!).

The NBA isn't worried about lawsuits. If the Maloofs balk, I'd bet dollars to donuts that the NBA buys the team and sells it to Sacramento with the Maloofs getting the same payout as they would have under their (original?) agreement with Seattle.

All this drama reminds of the Maloofs after the last arena deal fell apart - running around in the cage, banging against the bars, with no place to go. I give this maybe two or three more days before Stern steps in to stop the silliness. Hansen started becoming boorish when he bid up the price by 5%, even though the NBA said they didn't want a bidding war. Now he's fully stepped over the line. The boy's club isn't going to take kindly to this behavior, and if I were a Seattle fan I'd be very concerned that the Hansen behavior is going to banish any chance of ever getting a team in their town.

It's kind of gone full circle. Someone says the NBA won't approve a sale to Hansen without the move because he won't have an arena deal, somebody else says it doesn't matter because Hansen won't take the team without relocation, somebody then points out that new reports have come in saying Hansen may try to take the team without relocation, and now people point out that the NBA won't approve a sale to Hansen without the move because he won't have an arena deal.

Its just wishful thinking by Seattle people. And stupid thinking I might add. The NBA wants this issue to go away, permanently. They aren't going to reach a decision that just perpetuates it. Nor if I am Seattle do I remotely want Hansen tied up owning the Kings and having to somehow poison the ground there over some unspecified number of years etc. etc. to maybe someday eventually get greenlit to move the team... Meanwhile other more realistic options will have come and gone, the constant expansion option will be shelved etc.

Did I say "very unlikely?' The other stopper is that the land they would need is either owned by the City or Burkle and his companions.

Wouldn't they have to arrange the original agreement to where a denied relocation wouldn't void the agreement? From what I had understood, the agreement between H/B and the Maloofs was contingent on the team moving. Not to mention like you said there needs to be an arena deal in place, and the NBA would deny the ownership request if Hansen tried to buy the team and keep it in Sac. They would know he would have cruel intentions. I don't think the NBA is stupid.

I forgot about that part. We have all the land we need for the arena already, with the option to purchase more land. So since it's owned now by the Sac ownership group what would Hansen do? Put it somewhere else? That would take an entirely new arena deal, which there is no time to do before the vote, so Hansen owning the team in Sac is 100% not going to happen.

On a serious note, I feel bad for them too. Yes, some of them are being jackasses, but it's the Internet. I think a fair number of them are fans just like us, and they really miss their team, just like we would. Hopefully their hope of getting the Kings can be completely quashed soon, so that we can all move on.

It will be voided but that does not stop the Maloofs and H/B making another side deal and the Maloofs not accepting the Sac deal. That's where I think the NBA steps in and does the "best interest of the league". It would just be pathetic at that time because it would look as if the Maloofs are trying everything they can to move the Kings even when the relocation committee voted it down.

It's sad that the news is trying to spin it this way, and it's equally sad that the Seattle people actually think this is a possibility, but from what I heard the NBA will not have any of that. This is a done deal. Once 50% is put in escrow I hope that "glass half empty" people will finally just BELIEVE!!!

I assume the money is going into escrow because the NBA is doing this deal, and not the Maloofs. But in the end the Maloofs will be forced to leave the league.

I wonder if part of the "Plan" in Seattle is for HBN to get the Kings, get started on the arena, then have the Clowns buy the Coyotes and bring them to Seattle as a second tenant (perhaps with a sweet arena deal). Could explain why the Clowns are so adamant in getting the Kings to Seattle...

This idea of collusion was brought up a couple month back. While we may never know for certain, it seems pretty apparent that the seller's have some type of secret arrangement with the Seattle group. Sure, a scorched earth policy towards Mayor Johnson and the City of Sacramento is a HUGE reason why they continue to behave in such a poor manner, but it seems evident there is even more to it. Their comments about wanting to get right back into owning a pro-sports franchise after selling off the Kings, as well as the NHL being constantly linked to Seattle if a new Arena is built, pretty much tips their hand.

Definitely a good article from the Seattle perspective. The one quibble I'd have is when he says, "Hansen's purchase was the edge of the knife being held to that city's throat to see if it would fund a new arena and find a new owner who wanted to keep the team in town." KJ and Sacramento already had both of those things but were denied by the Maloofs. All Hansen's purchase did was provide an opportunity to take advantage of those things (and drive up the price so the Maloofs would be forced to accept it).

Yes, a "recently released" letter to the NBA. Technically two weeks ago is "recent" but I'd say quite a lot has happened since then.
