The John Salmons thread.

Love his game or hate it?

Keep him or trade him and when, for what in return?

Can he come into play this draft day?

I am actually a big fan of Johnny but I would love to see him get traded for TJ Ford. I personally, dont think Geoff is going to make any draft day trades. It would be nice to get a guy like TJ and get a young PF in here Darrell Arthur.

He is a solid starter for money but as a reserve he just plain sucks. Of course he is someone you would trade if you could get something decent in return. His contract runs on just about for ever and as a reserve he is majorly overpaid for what he produces.

I would rather keep Garcia as he plays equally well off the bench or as a starter.

If we can get a first round pick for him on draft day, I would do it.

Its not impossible there are teams out there that have the 13-20 pick that might consider it.

his game is alright, i wish he could shoot it better cause i feel like you need that all around player at SF .. however i think he's weak mentally because of how poor he plays off the bench, the fact is he is a bench player he really shouldnt start for 90% of the teams in the league he would be an excellent 6th man if he could play of the bench the way he plays when he starts.. he pisses me off from a basketball standpoint and i'd love to grab a mid/late first for him and our seconds

Trade him, to PHX for Raja Bell and #15 pick. He would probably get a starting spot on Phoenix's roster and they would lose nothing. We would gain a pick and I think Bell is an expiring.

Hey, they chased him (Salmons) when he was a FA.

I say trade him. He's only good when he starts, otherwise he's playing pouty with KT on the bench.

Love his play but his 'tude pisses me off

Good player, but trade him. He's good when he starts, but he's not good enough to start on a regular basis. Sucks off the bench. Trade him.

I do not really think that Beno has an attitude about coming off of the bench. He just seems to be genuinely more efficient as a starter. It is pretty unfair to group him up with K9.

I like him and feel he has earned a starting spot. I'd like to see what he can do if he starts all season.

I say start him. He was awesome when he was starting early in the year, I'd say he actually played better defense than Artest most of the time, and it would be worth seeing what happens with him at the starting SF spot full time. Sure, he can't come off the bench, but Artest isn't a long term solution anyway. Nor, for that matter, is Garcia, in my opinion, at least not until he grows a brain, and I think we might be waiting a while for that.

If he could continue the 17/5/5 pace as a starting SF, you're not going to find a better value in the league.

He was really good (offense and defense) starting those games without RonRon or without Kevin last year. But agree with the others he seems to be a pouter and not give it his all coming off the bench. That part is NG!! But that also affects his trade-ability if he wants to start somewhere else.

BUT, who do we have to backup RonRon or Kevin other than Cisco? Douby? the worker bee skinny kid? Trade Salmons? Sure but can you get equal or greater value? That's the hard part as he has 3 more years on contract at $5M, $5.4M and $5.8M. If he can play off the bench equal to his starting, then keep him.

Agreed. I liked what I saw with him starting. Trade Artest (if he's still here after July 1) for a big if you can and see what John can do starting with Garcia backing him up.

John is the best finisher around the basket on the squad. Good perimeter defense and has great handles with the rock. Still the guy is not a starter with the talented Artest in front of him. I would give the guy another year if attempts to get a good draft pick for him.

John Salmons is a player that I definitely want to trade. He was a good starter but can’t come off the bench. Pouts when he doesn’t start and to me, he would be a way better bench guy than a starter. Even if Ron is traded or opts out, I don’t want John in the front. It seems that he can’t get over not starting and the fact that he doesn’t pass the ball when he’s in the game bothers the h*** out of me.

Who would I trade him for, a lot of you know, my dream - Ben Gordon (even though I highly doubt Chicago does this. The bad part of that deal would be that Ben would want a really nice pay day, which I think we’re trying to keep far away from)…Can we get a couple good picks from him straight up (that be great but I doubt it). Would the Suns be interested in him? John can shoot, drive and defend (when he’s into it). It seems that they’re changing directions a little and maybe we can get something good from them.

Salmons, #12 and next year's #1 to MIL

Draft Joe Alexander with #8 from MIL, Mo Williams to SAC

Not sure it exactly works cap-wise, but we get a promising SF and a PG who in the right system has been successful.

MIL gets a SF who is established and will start from day 1 and a pretty decent pick to boot this year. Next year's pick should be top 5 protected, but that's about it.

No way, not in a million years. Sorry, but I am not prepared to give up any draft picks, it's pointless. We need to keep them. Sure, if you want to give up our 1st and 2nd this year for the 8th, but not next years. That deal is ludicrous in my eyes. Alexander is still a big risk and even at 12 wouldn't be my first choice. Our pick next year will be better than this years.

Yuck, give up that much and you better be in seattle / memphis territory with the 4 or 5 pick. This years draft is not worth all that.
