The I Hate Indiana Thread

Indiana is now my second most hated team(L***** being the first). They stole Jawai and Bayless from us. Grrrrrrrr......I hate them so badly.

Shouldn't this be the "I hate Portland" thread, i.e. the team that's going to be killing us for the next 10 years?

Portland is the one who made the deal with Pacers to select Bayless and then trade him to portland.

Yeah, it was no secret that Portland wanted to get a PG and was probably going to make a move to do so. I wish we had Portland's GM, very creative and makes the draft exciting.

I knew we had no shot at Bayless, there's no way he was dropping past Indy. We should've taken most talented and that was Randolph.

i also would like to join the i hate indiana club. just imagine a couple more losses and we could have ended up with bayless and jawai.

I minor in hating Indiana, major on Portland. It's kind of like you know you left a candy bar sitting on the table because you wanted to eat it later, only to have your little brother steal it right off the table because he can. Or they're just getting us back from the Brad deal in which we only gave up Pollard.

Portland on the other hand it's ridiculous how many players they've acquired within the last three drafts alone. They're playing the draft game heavily and it's working.

B.S the kings had plenty of chances to make moves but GP never seems to work the phones on draft day. I really think it might be time to consider cleaning up the front office for a new faces and ideas.

I dont want the kings to become the jazz and rely on one style for the rest of the franchise life. (princeton) It would not have killed the kings to make a move for the 10 or 11 spot because we have peices that other teams would like. Salmons, Moore, and miller.

This is silly- and you know that we had "plenty ofchances to make moves" how??? You know that "GP never seemes to work the phones on draft day" how??? You know that lots of teams want to give up draft picks for Moore, Salmons, and Miller how???

Did it ever occur to you that we tried to make moves and it didn't work...

History.

Did it ever occur to you that we tried to make moves and it didn't work...

but...that would mean we didn't have the assets to entice any trade partners, which goes back again to the front office.

it's not squarely on the front office, i think, because players can suck some times and that's beyond management's control. but i think in our situation, a lot of things were foreseeable:

1) mikki is a career journeyman not who's not really worth the MLE.
2) why did we trade for KT, knowing that at best he's an ok player, but even so is overpaid?
3) SAR...that was a gamble. the knee thing was known and it scared off NJ.
4) picking douby. why??? we already had a glut of swingmen (because douby's really a 2) and he isn't really a PG.

these were decisions made by the FO. this is why we don't have any trades going down.

im more upset about indy getting tj ford than drafting bayless... especially when they turn around and trade for jack....

maybe now we can trade for sergio and/or blake because the felton idea isnt looking too good... though i doubt that would work with portland getting batum... the blazers are gonna be one of the deepest teams in the league next year... they look almost 3 deep at every position....

damn them... on a side note, they are going to be a fun team to play with in 2k9 this fall. cant wait to throw nothing but alley-oops to roy, batum, oden, aldridge and webster on my roommates all night. bayless is gonna aveerage 12 pts and 20 ast every game in franchise mode.

i don't see a point for this thread. if you need to get mad, you need to get mad at management for putting the team in this position. as you can see other teams can be active in reshaping their franchise. look at portland for instance, paul allen told the GM to clean house and give em a new image. kings had many opportunities to start fresh but they keep thinking band aid and get back into the playoffs only to be trounced again in the 1st round. sorry but i see no point in getting mad at another team that did whats best for its franchise.

History is evidence of what did happen. I believe he was referring to having knowledge of what did not happen. Knowledge that you nor I nor anyone else has.

Its all tied together, Petrie seems to have something against pulling the triggers on draft day.

Championship teams can be built on draft day not only boston but portland may be next on the list soon because they load up and unload players.

Since this is really no longer about the Kings, so much as just venting about the draft, I'm moving it to the Personnel Moves section.

Vent away... but keep in mind you haven't seen Jason Thompson play yet. You might actually be thanking Indiana before it's all over.

:)

As an aside:

Portland Trailblazers

Picks: Traded Jarrett Jack, Josh McRoberts and rights to Brandon Rush (#13) to Indiana for Ike Diogu and rights to Jerryd Bayless (#11), traded rights to Darrell Arthur (#27) and Joey Dorsey (#33) to Houston for rights to Nicolas Batum (#25); traded rights to Omer Asik (#36) to Chicago for three future second-round picks, traded rights to Mike Taylor (#55) to L.A. Clippers for 2009 second-round pick.

A+

Kevin Pritchard and his terrific staff continue to run circles around every other front office in the NBA, going out and securing the top players on their draft board, at their biggest needs, while continuing to stock up on picks for the future.

Portland’s staff identified Jerryd Bayless as the best fit for their roster very early on in the season, as we discussed with the Oregonian here and here, and they were confident and aggressive enough (as usual) to go out and get him.

It makes perfect sense of course, as his biggest weakness (the fact that he’s not a true point guard) actually becomes a strength playing alongside Brandon Roy (who will do the majority of the ball-handling). Letting Bayless focus on what he does best—making shots and creating for himself and in turn for others—will absolutely bring out the best in him, very quickly even. He will defend point guards, while Roy will handle the shooting guards, and the two will just cross on offense. The Blazers had him ranked as the fourth best player in this draft—as did we—and being able to nab him with the 13th pick and Jarrett Jack was a huge coup that many NBA teams will regret letting the Blazers accomplish down the road.

Later on in the draft, the Blazers continued to wheel and deal, helping the Rockets foil the shrewd plans of the Spurs to steal Nicolas Batum by hiding his physical from the rest of the league. Portland liked Batum enough to give him strong consideration at #13—they scouted him possibly more than any other team in this draft reportedly—so to land him with a measly three million dollars and an early second round pick is quite an accomplishment.

To make sure they have enough toys to play with in next year’s draft Portland went out and secured four additional second rounders for their remaining picks, always getting great value in every trade they made.

They have just been brilliant for years now. Its really bizarre -- not sure I cna remember this sustained a run of draft day dominance from anyone

executive of the year without a doubt.... would be a good trade partner if we cant find a pg in free agency. their only downside is that their capspace would be shot to hell if someone signs darius miles to a contract.

how would they be a good trade partner? pritchard has shown he is one of the best gms right now, and currently leagues above goeff petrie (i dont care what hes done in the past, he hasnt done much of anything right now, good or bad, and that mirrors our team). whatever he would agree to would be in the best interest of his team, and what we would agree to would be in the best interest of our team. motivation being equal, you then move to whos smarter? pritchard > petrie. so now whatever deal you conclude will leave you wondering, "did pritchard just screw me over?" the answer will probably be yes.

they could trade blake and still have a good team with bayless and sergio or trade sergio and still have blake... the dont lose a step by trading either one... i like blake and i wanted geoff to draft sergio...
