All-Star
The end of small ball for this team can be virtually eliminated by as soon as next season.
Let me go into detail, the Kings have an opportunity to add some "big" pieces before next season and get rid of some "small" ones.
I like Fredette as a basketball player, but he doesn't fit the mold of any particular position. He is a fantastic shooter but lacks the size to play out on the wing. So he is limited to guarding the smaller players on the opposing team. Unfortunately these players are usually the quickest players on the court and speed, quickness, and the ability to stay in front of a man are weaknesses in Jimmer's game. I think we should try and trade him before the trade deadline this year. We could package him with our other two players who supposively have good potential but have just dissapointed here in Sacramanto. Of course I'm talking about Hickson and Greene.
I think trading for another PG would be a good idea. Thomas is not doing as well as a starter than he was coming off the bench. This leads us to believe that he is perfect for that sixth man role. So what PG do we go after with that package of 3 players? I vote Bayless. He is an extremely athletic PG with great size. He is a good 3pt shooter and can distribute the ball at a 2-to-1 assist to turnover ratio. He is also a good defender who has the potential to stay in front of any man because of his athleticism. He will most certainly be an upgrade on the defensive side when compared to Jimmer.
So the deal would be:
Fredette
Hickson
Greene
for
Bayless
Magloire
This trade will give the Raptors a rotation that looks like this:
PG - Calderon/Fredette/Carter
SG - DeRozan/Barbosa
SF - Kleiza/Greene/Butler
PF - Davis/Hickson/J. Johnson
C - Bargnani/A. Johnson/Gray/Alabi
They have some nice pieces in their starting lineup already, but this trade will give them depth at every position, and with another early lottery pick on the way and the progression of their young players, they will be a very competitive team next year.
In the end if we are to amnesty Salmons, draft a big man, and sign Batum, Chandler, or Kirilenko, small ball will be no more.
PG - Bayless 6'3" / Thomas 5'9"
SG - Evans 6'6" / Thornton 6'4" / Garcia 6'7"
SF - Batum 6'8" / Honeycutt 6'8" / Outlaw 6'9"
PF - Thompson 6'11" / Rookie Big Man 6'9"-6'11" / Hayes 6'6"
C - Cousins 6'11" / Whiteside 7'0"
Our only undersized player would be Thomas and Hayes.
