SAC working late putting the finishing touches on their arena term sheet. Could be completed tonight but probably tomorrow.

Amazing how much easier it seems to be to put together an arena deal this time around. Even with our backs against the wall, things never approached Maloofian levels of chaos. Goes to show you how important non-broke owners are to the process.

Exactly. I've always said that one of KJ's major points to the BOG should be how Sacramento would probably have an arena in place if not for the Maloofs.

And how important brain power is in the process. It's a great day today.

Well that seemed kind of humdrum. So why did it take the Maloofs so long?

Oh yah, they had no money and didn't want to be here.

Kings are staying in Sacramento as long as the offer matches.. YAY!

Has somebody with stronger NBA ties than Carmichael Dave committed to this yet?

You won't see anyone with close ties to the NBA make any kind of definitive statement until after the BoG meets unless Hansen withdraws his offer. But, if the offer matches, it would be almost impossible for the NBA to move the Kings after the amount of local/regional support by fans, businesses, government, etc. It would, in the opinion of most "experts," put forth a negative message that could easily reverberate throughout the NBA fan base.

A lot of people are more confident than me that we can. This is an exorbitant, record 525 for not a highly valued franchise comparatively that we're trying to match, led by a guy whose final offer for his hometown team was I believe worth less.. However Grant says his sources have said this is a formality, and everyone else thinks it will be done so I will go with this tide on this

Apparently we are looking at about a 2 pm release of the term sheet per STR tweet.

The way I see it is this;

1. Sacramento offers the same amount of money that the Maloofs were to get from Seattle.
2. Sacramento has an arena deal in place.
3. Sacramento has the fan support and the local government support.

Basically we would meet (and exceed) every condition that's required to keep the team here. Think of it this way. Let's say if a team like Atlanta, or Portland has an owner come in who wants to move the team when Atlanta or Portland had recently broke ground on an arena, do you think the NBA would allow that new owner to move the team?

Put yourself in the mind of a person with common sense (not saying that you don't have common sence). Why on earth would they go through the entire "team moving process" when you have two identical offers and two arena plans from each city? Not to mention the city where the team is currently has fan support and has been there 30+ years. It makes no sense.

Now if Mastrov does not meet the bid then we could discuss the BOG reasoning, but per Stern's comments, I believe Mastrov will submit an equal bid and we will have the arena deal in place so there really isn't any reason to move the team unless someone wants to be a complete jerk.

I have heard this before, "if" Mastrov does not meet the bid. This is just a general question, but speculation is that Mastrov/Burkle is worth a combined 4.5 billion dollars. Both gentleman have a passion for professional sports; one is a current sports owner, the other desperately wants to be one. Why would they not meet the offer?

Is there a legitimate reason why both men would go through the hassle of coming to an agreement with a city for an arena, and not meet the asking price for the team? Particularly when we are talking about a few million. I know it is not my money, but matching Seattle's bid should be the least of their issues.

I believe personally that they will meet the bid, and from what Stern said this should be a non-issue.

So it comes down to this;

Would an owner vote to move the Kings with the same offer as the city that wants them, with an arena deal in place, fan support and a 30 year history (not to mention it being one of the original NBA teams)?

Nobody with any sense would vote to move the team. But with the Maloofs getting a vote you never know if there are other "Maloof" type owners out there who don't mind screwing over a city that has all of the above.

Does Seattle already have the term sheet for the arena?

I was also thinking that KJ can bring it up to the BOG how quickly we got the Arena/owner issue resolved. That would at least give them an idea of what we had to deal with over the past 6-8 years. Maybe they will realize it wasn't entirely our fault that the arena wasn't built earlier.

That is a little misleading. Seattle does have an understanding to build the arena IF an NBA team is signed and committed. BUT there is still not an entirely clear path for their arena and no signed contract. There is a lawsuit over the lack of environmental impact study for the arena, and the Longshoreman's Union is appealing the judges decision in their suit claiming there was/is no alternative site and property was inappropriately approved for the Arena.

But with owners who are self-made billionaires, how will we know when to admonish ownership for making stupid hamburger commercials?

Ranadive just tweeted he's "excited to be a part of the revitalization of a great community and the globalization of an amazing franchise."

I like the attitude.

The Sac Bee blog says that there is connection between Stern and Ranadive-- Stern provided a positive review/quote for one of his books. I'm not sure how often Stern does this but it's certainly a good sign.

The more important thing is that is already within the NBA fellowship. Owners usually want to do what's best for other owners... unless they're Maloofs.

Lost in the waves of another whale breaching is the info that the term sheet probably won't be finished today
