TDOS Tropical Island Drafts

#1
With one week left in the season, and TDOS on the horizon, I thought I would bring back Slim’s incarnation from last summer. The Desert Island Drafts! There are a few ideas that we ran out of time for last year, and saved for this TDOS.

Superhero Draft/Super Villain Draft

Lucky You! You’ve just inherited a tropical island from a relative that you didn’t know you had. It’s a beautiful island with a house, renewable utilities, and all the comforts of home. It has a fishing boat, and a nice lagoon to dock it in, a tropical forest rich with fruit, scenic rivers with waterfalls, rope swings, and a tree house for the kids. It has a helipad for entry, and a network of roads in place so you can get around.

Unfortunately, your neighbors are less than hospitable, and are pretty ticked that your relative gave the island to you and not them. Neighboring your island are strongholds of 5 super villains intent on invading your new home. You don’t have a lot of money for a security system, and since it is located outside the U.S. you are ineligible for National Guard or military assistance. Bummer.

Luckily, some superheroes have heard of your plight, and they love tropical islands too. They’ve agreed to help protect your island from the neighbors in return for room, board, and a chance to surf you’re epic beaches.

Since there is limited room in the guesthouse, and you don’t have a lot of money for transportation, you can only afford to accept 5 superheroes on your island, so you decided to have open tryouts. May the Best 5 win.

I will "commish" the Hero draft, and see if Löwenherz still wants to oversee the villains draft (See link).

Rock Band II Draft

Rock Band Draft I was awesome (see link).

http://www.kingsfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28627

Rock Band II would follow similar guidelines, but eliminate members already in Rock Band I's draft (Those guys already have their own band). 5 members, each can play one instrument and do vocals/songwriting/dancing/etc.

So let me know if there is any interest in these 3 drafts. I will "commish", or we can delegate that to an interested party. Hurray for TDOS, may it be more entertaining than the dismal Kings season.

The Draft to end all Drafts.

No Topic. No rules (just how I like it) except the obvious once something is drafted its off the table. You just draft 20 things that are the best things ever.

I'd be down for that too, count me in. We should probably start threads for each draft individually so the participants can sign up.

I would like to make a couple of suggestions:

1. No more than two or perhaps three drafts ongoing at the same time.

2. A little tighter control on the amount of time allowed for picks.

:)

I believe there is a list somewhere of drafts that were postponed until this TDOS, which doesn't start BTW until after the final game of the season has been played...meaning next week for our Kings.

To avoid all kinds of confusion and overlap, it would be best IMHO to have some kind of coordinator of TDOS drafts just to keep a list of which draft comes next and things like that. And I'd suggest that no one be allowed to just start a draft thread without the coordinator's okay. That way someone new to the whole scene won't cut line, so to speak?

Oh, and one other thing? The person running the individual draft is the commissioner in general terms. "Mods" are we powerhungry few who try and keep things on an even keel around here. ;)

I will be the commissioner for the Super Hero Draft, and have bumped the original thread. I also sent a PM to Lowenhurts, asking if he wanted to mod that draft. They seem to go hand in hand, and would be fun to do simultaneously. If I don't hear back from Löwenherz, I wouldn't mind being the commissioner for the Super Villains draft too.

If you come up with a list of potential drafts AND their sequencing, I'll sticky it to the top of the Lounge for reference. That way people won't be starting new threads while others are still waiting in queue...

After this season I propose "Tropical Island of Pain and Suffering"

20 things/people/food/whatever you would NEVER want to be stranded on an island with for the rest of eternity.

I'm just gauging interest in the video game one at this point. I fear that it may be redundant to the last one.

Anyway, I'm in for the dream team draft. I said I'd be in for the superhero/villain one, but I'm gonna pull outta that one. Don't really know enough to go several rounds deep

Yeah, I'm still gonna say no to them for now though. Definitely out on the superheroes. I'll consider the villains n RB2, but I'm definitely in for the Dream Team

For hard core long time Kings fans, rather than a Dream Team draft, an All Time Kings Team draft. 10 drafters, 12 man rosters each + 1 coach (think we've had 11 of them so just about everybody). Then playoffs + voting on who would win each round.

Given the dearth of good players over the years, I'm thinking there would be some comically bad teams in the group. :p

We might need to do that one later in the summer, so we can get some better players (i hope):D.

I'm also still intrigued by the creative possibilities of a Make Your Own Movie Draft.

-- draft your genre (comedy, horror, action, kung foo whatever -- there would have to be the same number of genres as players (a predetermined list people could choose from)
-- draft your director
-- draft any 8? actors + actresses to be in it, from any era.

So you could draft your genre first and then try to get the actors for it, or draft the actors and then try to find a good genre for them, or whatever. After the draft is done, give it a name, tell us the plot + characters, possibly make a poster, whatever. Similar to the post rock band stuff.

I like the idea, but fear it would devolve into an orgy of violence and hostility when we all tried to draft Paris Hilton.

Problem: Stallone's already making it.

I love it! Great Idea Brick, count me in. Lets add it to the big board:).

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Jespher, who apparently has yet to learn the "be careful what you volunteer for" lesson of life, has been granted the incredibly awesome title of "Official TDOS Draft Thread Coordinator" for the 2009 TDOS.

We moderators will still keep tabs on things but this way he can make sure the draft thread order is right, work with the individual commissioners of the various threads to keep them running smoothly, etc.

So, to summarize, he's going to do all the work and we're all going to just sit back and have fun.

:)

Band members or forum members? If it's band members, I'm in to make another one.

Also interested in movie and all-time Kings team.

Rock Band II will include different band members, but may include the same Kings Fans posters:). We won't pick the members until TDOS begins though, as decreed by VF21.

Count me in for Rock Band 2.

I was going to start a music thread that was not a draft thread, but an elimination thread. I was thinking to call it "The Last Band Standing" or "The Ultimate Battle of the Bands". I would put up 20-25 bands/solo acts from varied times and genres, each with 15 points. Any board member can play or not at any time with the only limits being 1 post a day. With each post, you give a +1 to one band and a -1 to one band. If a band gets to 0, they are deleted from the list. The last band standing is the winner and the official favorite band of KF.

I was thinking this does not need to be organized with the draft threads and was just going to start it when TDOS comes. Let me know if that is not OK.
