I know in my draft a Time-Outed person gets skipped until they make their next pick, but not to sure about this one...

Im going to assume the same rules apply and pick...





Best Friends.

I am on an island forever, and there is NOTHING better than having my best friends on my island.

This island has best friends, the northern lights, PERFECT weather, and a 5-star personal chef.

I think that sounds almost perfect.

I wanna live on a boat in the sea between all these islands. I could watch the northern lights, have some italian food and speak with jesus in one day!

The more specific these picks get, the better these places sound, to me at least.

This might run afoul of our board rules, or it might slip in under the particular rules of this draft thread. Not sure. I'm going to go check in with the other mods. These two threads have alreayd been walking apretty tight line, and what we cannot have is either of them becoming competitions on controversial topics like religion or politics. You take Jesus, the next poster takes Allah, the third says neither existed etc. I'll get back to you after we have a mod pow wow.

Give me a damn break. I'm sorry thats ridiculous Brick. Its not meant to be some controversial thing, its my pick on my anything island. If someone wants to go ahead and take Allah, I could care less, it's the "anything draft". I knew someone would have a problem with this and I almost didn't put it up, but you know what? I wasn't going to let what other people think affect me. If people are going to have problem with it then I'm going to drop out of this draft. It makes me sick that we can sit here and draft sex and eternal booze and its up for debate whether I can draft someone that represents good virtues whether you believe in him or not.

My Utopian isle is going to get a whole lot better with this next pick. I already have life, in all its forms, love, in all its expressions, and imagination to give life meaning. With my 4th pick I select:

Laughter



Laughter is an audible expression or appearance of happiness, or an inward feeling of joy (laughing on the inside). Once you're on my island, you will laugh early, and often, and will be filled with joy :).

That will be your privilege -- the board rules are in place for a reason. We experimented with letting religion and politics be widely discussed some years back and it was a disaster with flame wars, bitter infighting, people leaving the board, or spamming it. It was a mess. I've started the thread in the mod forum, and we'll see how we are going to handle this -- it may be ok due to the nature of this thread, but as a rule we don't go there with good reason.

Well first of all I am my own personal Jesus. ;)

But its a board rules thing. Longstanding policy with solid experience behind it. I'm checking to see how the group wants to handle this. If for instance somebody just started a poll "do you want to have your own personal Jesus," we would close that instantly. So you can see why I'm checking on this one.

Believe me, I'm more for keeping and religion and politics off of this board as a topic of discussion than anyone... and I'm pretty impressed how well this board holds up compared to others ive been on. However, a topic of discussion is different than a "draft pick" with absolutely no intention of enforcing my views or anything on anyone.

Hardly disingenuous -- the Rush pick was a very close call and I have already mentioned it in the mod discussion as another potentially problematic one.

And yes I am aware of the historical Jesus distinction -- its one possible out.

And just to be clear, Kings Faithful is not being accused of doing anything wrong with his post/pick, aside from potentially opening the door to others who might. We allow some minor exceptions -- funny stories, the occassional non-denominational prayer threads etc. But as a general rule there are no problems on this board because we give them no ground in which to sink any roots. One man's savior is another man's apostate or devil, and on those topics people believe hard and often lose civility.

I can understand you saying i may have opened the door... but I'm gonna say that you just broke the door off by making this conversation public. lol. thanks for taking it under consideration though instead of just throwing the pick away all together.

As far as the Jesus pick, I'm generally okay with it and will be including it when I update the draft board in a moment. However, the one rule on content here is that all picks must be board appropriate; if the mods decide as a group that it's got to go, I'll back them up and ask for a replacement. I wouldn't worry about it, personally, because it doesn't seem any more inflammatory to me than the countless prayer threads in The Lounge (in which a number of the mods frequently participate).

Also, to be fair to Brick, at no point did he say he was going to unilaterally decide that the pick was inappropriate. He merely gave a heads up that the mods would discuss it. Let's save the ruffled feathers at least until we have a ruling.

Yeah, i get that. I'm not upset at brick. What makes me mad is that I thought about this before the pick and thought to myself that "it shouldn't be a big deal to anyone" and it has yet to be shown that it is... but to have my choice tossed aside for the mere reason of "it could make someone mad" is unfair to me, at least in the manner the pick was presented. I'm just hoping it doesn't come to that.

Ok, maybe not the right choice of words, but there is just no way that your pick with accompanying commentary is less controversial than KF's. I have no problem with either, I just found it interesting.

First of all:: the Jesus pick stands, with the proviso it stands in the context of this draft. Its about the far limits of what's a go, and we still aren't going there anyplace but in this draft. But as presented, as a pick in this draft wihtout proselytization, its ok.

Every episode of every show, the movies, eh, I guess I will even throw in the comic book stuff just for the heck of it although I have no use for them. In any case at this point I've got hundreds and hundreds of episodes of various shows, a couple of movies, and a bucket of laughs. For a bounded, congnizable entertainment package, I doubt I could do much better.

Since it not clear to me whether we're picking these for the desert island, I want to make sure that I am on an island with no option to leave (yay!). My next pick is:

Mljet Island (Croatia)

The J is the name is pronounced like Y in English. Here is the pic, Mljet is the bigger island in the picture and it comes with its own inland lake and smaller island on that lake.
