Summer fun to look forward to

This year our summer will be more fun than any year since 1998. So here is my view of "Kings Fans Summer Fun" or KFSF.

First, in the next week or so we hopefully hear that Tyreke is ROY. Thursday, 29 Apr??

Then the draft lottery is 18 May and we find out if Kings draft 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5.

Followed by 5 weeks of rampant thrashing on KF.com about who the Kings should draft.

June 24 is the NBA draft and we can watch it all on ESPN.

Two weeks after the draft the Vegas Summer League begins it's fun run 9-18 July. There we
can all see our kids, the new draftees and a handful of FA's trying to get invites to training
camp the first of October.

So really only 2-1/2 months of TDOS after summer league.

Summer league is the pinnacle of my mid-year and I can't wait.

Yeah Cruzdude,

You forgot to mention our prodigious amount of cap room.

Definately going to be an interesting summer. I'm hoping Petrie doesnt blow it with the FA signings, he's a bit hit and miss in that department.

Indeed...but I'll give him credit...I think he definitely has a master plan, and the foundation for that was laid this past year. Now...he's been here twice before, once in 1994-95 and also in 1998. 1994-95 was SORT of a hit: Drafting Grant, Smith...trading for Sarunas, signing Corbin...nothing earthshattering, other than drafting BG and the Animal...those were great moves. And then we all know what happened in 1998...one of the greatest re-builds in NBA history, from my standpoint(not QUITE as good as Ainge a few years back, but still one of the greats). I really hope that whatever plan Geoff has for this team looks more like 1998 than 1994-95...we cant afford mediocrity at ALL. He NEEDS this offseason to be his greatest masterpiece, IMO.

Don't forget he drafted Funderburke in that same draft with Grant and the animal Smith. Ironicly Funderburke lasted longer with the team than either one of them did.

I totally agree. Just out of curiosity, how do you see the offseason playing out and it being Petrie's "greatest masterpiece." I think pulling off a sign and trade for Bosh that either allows to keep our pick or @ worst swap w toronto, is the absolute ceiling for this summer.

FA's can be talked to startIng July 1 but can't be signed until the 15th (?).

Since each draft position 1-4 is a different type player at a different position: Wall-a true PG, Turner-an MJ type SG, Favors-a ready for NBA PF and Cousins, a true defending back-to-the-basket center, who the Kings select will dictate their FA priorites. Now that presents some what ifs that should get all our juices flowing big time. Add to the mix some $18-$20M in cap space and our own Dumbledore (GP) should be able to work some real magic. :D

Tough to say really...Geoff doesnt do the imaginable, as we all know...something UN-imaginable would be more his doing. I didnt see him getting Landry for Martin, which seems to be working out just fine. So, I'm not even going to start thinking about what HE'S thinking about doing. All I can say is I cant WAIT for May 18th, June 24th, and July 1.

It really all is there on the table this summer. We've got all the tools and opportunities you could want -- we've got a top pick, developing kids, big FA room. Its just about what we do with them. But people moaning about how much we suck and how far we are from being good are making a mistake when they sleep on the potential of this summer.

So what is the FA schedule looks like?

When does it start and when does it end?

The Vegas Summer League runs 9-18 July at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. This is their 6th year I believe and 20-22 NBA teams will have teams there consisting of their draft choices, 1st and 2nd year players and Free Agents invited to show their stuff. Then following the VSL will be a new Rocky Mountain Review in Salt Lake City with 6 NBA teams represented, maybe some of the same from Vegas. That will run about a week. There are two other small summer leagues back east usually with 4-6 teams each. Thats about it for chances for FA's.

BTW, I found 12 hotel/casinos in Vegas offering rates of $40/night or less during the month of July. The lowest? $20 a night. Daily tickets to see all games in one day are likely to be $15-$20. So far we have a car pool of 4 going!!

This sounds awesome. I'm going to request vacation for those days. Are those dates confirmed? Count me in

No, we got other guys that need the PT more. Hopefully people like Evan Turner ;), Omri Casspi, and Brockman will see that floor.

He may play in a couple of games, just to get familiar with the new players. Wouldn't surprise me if he played in all of them. However if its just a few I hope they let us know which one's, because Cruzdude and I are going to summer league. I'd certainly want to go to the one's Tyreke is playing in.

My wife and I usually take the week of Summer League off and watch all the games on the days that the Kings play.
We'll be doing the same thing again this year.

As I did last year, I'm planning on detailing all of the players from all of the games I watch, so you can get an idea of who is looking good and who isn't.

We always stay at the Stratosphere which runs around 35 during the week. So we'll make sure to meet up with all the KingsFans.com members that we met during the Clippers game.

It's my favorite week of the summer so I can't wait.

Summer league, hopefully a top 4 pick, Tyreke possibly playing, discounted hotel rooms, AND a chance to watch kings basketball wth both CruzDude and Bajadan in person...

I think I will have to look at my schedule and see if I can take some time off and join the party. That sounds like a lot of fun.

Aside from that, I also think it's likely Tyreke plays. He will be training in LA all summer, and from what I've heard, will be training in vegas with the Team USA training camp. I wouldn't be surpised at all to see Tyreke play just to work on his jumper during 'in game" situations.

Again, welcome aboard, ElRey's buying! We just have to make sure he gets there. :D

I'm usually in Vegas that time of the year. Would love to check out a game and meet some of you guys. Who's buying again? :D

I cant wait till the draft lottery, i hope kings gonna get the 1st-2nd pick.
By the way, Omri Casspi gonna play in this SummerLeague and get back to israeli national team training on 20th july.
Hes going to play 6 games on the EuroBusket Qualifation (against Italy, Lativa, Finland and Montenegro) he will get back to Sacramento in September. :D

The #1 pick would dramatically change the future for this team... whether we keep the pick or not. Wall could be a franchise PG and he and Evans could possibley be unstoppable... we could also get some extremely valuable assets to surround Tyreke with if we traded him... For instance Al Jefferson + 3-6 pick for John Wall + whatever. Not saying that is a likely scerio because Minnesota already has a couple good Pg's, but I wouldn't be surprised to see something like this. I'm so excited I can barely contain it! :) :) :)

I'm in for a Vegas gathering for Summer League. Someone fill me in on the details and I'll try to make the trip.

By the way, does anyone know where in LA Reke is training? I wouldn't mind bumping into him on accident to see how the shot is looking. ;)

The entire Vegas Summer League runs 9-18 July. The Kings team will play 5 games over a 6-8 day period. The schedule usually comes out late May so we gotta wait to firm up dates. The first game of summer league is a laugher no matter whose team as the FA's and rooks try to hard and play like a bunch of 6th graders after a quart or two of Red Bull..... Games 2-4 and 3-5 are the best. The core group is usually set in game 3, just my input not official.

From San Diego north county over by beach across to I-15 and up to Vegas was 5-1/2 hr with 2 stops. From LA an hour shorter.
