It helps in that it puts just a bit of doubt into Seattle's arena plan in the mind of those who would vote on the BOG. Their city and county do not put themselves out too much for this deal. In fact the deal was in bad shape until Hansen backed their I-91 contribution payback profit guarantees with his private funding. Their opposition factor is higher than Sac, better organized and systemic.

This Kings thing is not over yet for Sac. One business may commit $60M to new Sac arena & keeping Kings in Sac @ 10 on CBS 13

I saw that. I think they may be talking about AEG. TV stations like to tease things like this and make it sound like a breaking story. When it's something commonly known anyway.

Agreed. From today's Sacbee:

AEG Chief Executive Tim Leiweke, in Sacramento for an appearance at the Capitol, said the arena developer is definitely interested in pursuing an arena deal downtown, depending on how the Kings' ownership situation gets settled.

"We haven't changed our opinion about Sacramento or the arena," he said.

He added that NBA Commissioner David Stern and Johnson asked him to re-engage on the arena issue. He planned to meet with the mayor this week.

"To the commissioner's credit, I don't think he ever forgot about Sacramento," he said. He said Stern, whom he's known for decades, doesn't like to relocate franchises.

AEG pledged $59 million to the arena plan that was abandoned by the Kings last spring. "We are still committed to the same economic package," he said.

I certainly agree with what she says there, but wonder just how far bruised egos (and misplaced ego at that) will drive them. Certainly all along it could have worked that way. If when they had first got poor they had admitted it, tried to get help. When they couldn't, if they had sacrificed some leverage by telling the community that they couldn't hold the line any longer, but they would try to sell local, then they never accumualte ill will. they aren't jokes, at least not in Sacto. Having gone so far though down the other path, will ego even let them back?

Its why KJ's little announcement the Maloofs could retain a minority stake was sneaky smart --opening that door for redemption. But the Maloofs egos may take as just one more affront. A pity move that publicly reduces them, when they are the Maloofs! Genius businessmen and all that nonsense.

It didn't even occur to me that the maloofs would take KJ's comment that the maloofs may be able to keep a minority %age of the kings here in sac as an affront. I had already considered KJ's comment as shrewd and smart. However I did not look at it from the maloofs small, petty, bad business side of it. Thats a stark reminder to them of how far they have fallen and how dare the mayor embarrass them with this pity offer of minority ownership. This affront to the great Maloofs will push them even closer to the seattle group who would give them no stake in the team. These guys are the ultimate losers. I despise these pretenders even more.

I particularly liked this excerpt;

The owners of the Sacramento Kings – the "Maloof boys" – hold the key to everything in this saga, while holding the key to nothing in every other facet of their lives.

George Maloof, the "smart" one of the family who turned a 98 percent interest in the Palms Casino into 2 percent, leads them. Dude thinks he's Michael Corleone of "Godfather" fame when in fact he is Fredo.

Yet Fredo, his brother Fredo and his other brother Fredo could command a $500 million price tag for a franchise they ran into the ground long ago.

think they also meet at the All Star break, which logically speaking is when this one would have to take place in order for them to decide Seattle or Sacto in time for Seattle to be able to file for relocation by Mar. 1.
A little over four weeks away. This is going to be a sprint.

I don't think it's a full BoG meeting. That is the one at the end of the year. That's where they typically vote on sales etc. The maloofs will just be filing on march 1st before ownership is transferred. I think the march 1st is irrelevant at this point. It's the approval of the sale of the team that matters in April.

For all we know, they could have already filed.

I wonder if we could assemble fans in Houston to rally around the All Star Game events.

Unfortunately, I can no longer read the Bee. Everytime I go there, they block me and want me to pay. Funny, I can read just about every newspaper in the united states for free, but not the Bee. I'll be dammed if I'll pay money for that peice of crap rag.
I've run across the same problem also. The work-around is to stop the page from loading after the text of the article appears. If you that, you should have no problem. If you allow the entire page to load, the subscription pop-up will block you from reading the article. Just a heads up ;)

You can also download different browsers - Firefox, Safari, Google, Internet Explorer - once the Bee blocks me, I open it up in another browser.

With that said, you should support your local paper...;)

^ This... they are filing to relocate to Seattle, with a sales agreement in hand. It's the only logical explanation as to why the "sale" price is so high and why people keep floating the lower Sacramento offer as comparable to Seattle's 500-525. The Seattle offer is inflated to cover the relocation expenses, city loan repayment, etc...

However, it's the RELOCATION approval that mattters. No relocation = no sale to Hansen.

REMINDER: You cannot copy and paste entire articles from the Sacramento Bee. It is a violation of our FAQs and, more importantly, a very real violation of their copyright. Links are wonderful, entire articles could get us in BIG trouble as newspapers are fighting for their lives as evidenced by the fact they place restrictions on how many times you can view their stuff for free before you have to pay for it.

Ya, but it's not like you can't find the articles on the floor of bathrooms/dog kennels/bird cages etc. Not everyone pays to read the paper version.

I don't disagree. I'm simply reminding people that we - Kingsfans.com - have certain legal obligations. I'd hate to see KF yanked out of cyberspace over an article from the Bee, you know? We've gone through this before and actually seen at least one website disappear because of their flagrant disregard for copyright restrictions.

For what its worth I highly doubt the Bee isn't going to come after us for that. They desperately need the Kings to stay too. And they need their voices heard.

Not an encouragement to vice vis a vis other websites or even other parts of the Bee. But those stories, posted here, to exactly the effect that was intended? They'd be fools to quibble. Its like a last stab at relevancy.

Just install Adblock plus to Firefox and add a custom filter to block ppjol.com

Easy.
