See above. We looked better because the competition was far worse. Even at that there was drama as to who might win until the fourth quarter.

Whiteside played 11 minutes and he was yanked within 2 minutes from start.

Man, sounding like Whiteside is going to bust out. Pretty disappointing given his skill set and what he'd be able to bring to the team.

Ah well, at least he was a 2nd round pick. Imagine if we picked him at 5 over Monroe if Cousins didnt fall to us (as was rumored), that would have been a disaster!

Somebody during the game said Hassan had fallen and appeared to have hurt himself early in the game. Are you sure English meant he was jerked in the first two minutes for lack of rebounding or defending. I don't even know how much you would know in 2 minutes. Anyway, he isn't going to be our shot blocker. It doesn't make much difference in the long run as to why he was jerked. None of the teams Hassan has been on in the Kings organization has given him minutes and I'm sure there are good reasons for that.
 
I'm not trying to knock the guy, but i just don't know if Whiteside can process a "playbook," considering most of our plays are just "stand there" he still looks totally lost.

I remember a bee article from way back when knocking his worth ethic/desire. Thought he'd got over that considering the way he's bulked up, can't knock his frame.

My point is they are cheap serviceable big men. Much more valuable than the likes of hayes. since they are both 6'9 like trob, they can show him how they were able to succeed as "undersized big men" in the modern nba in addition to what clifford ray could teach them. mentoring would be a bonus, not the reason to bring them here. I believe we need a stop gap starting pf to see what we have in trob, and getting players of that caliber for 2 or 3 million is worth the gamble. Or owners are broke, instead of overpaying in free agency year over year, we could spend or very little money wisely on amnesty pick ups.

He's 6'9 in shoes, with regular pf standing reach, above average NBA wingspan and very good athleticism. He's not undersized.

Check these starting pf heights listed (which is w/shoes).

6'7": Maxiell

whiteside rubs me the wrong way with his self-entitlement swag when he's accomplished absolutely nothing.

I can care less if you got a contract to play in the NBA. Bust your damn ***. Don't jog lazily while drooping your head in an annoying fashion as if to say "man, they're making me run again"...

Hassan has all the physical tools in the world to be an animal, but he's got zero bball IQ and a low IQ in general for that matter. But, even guys with low IQ's can still be hard workers.
 
Still don't see much point to benching a guy you hope to develop in a summer league game. You're not tryint to win. And you need to play that guy significant minutes to gain experience. Yell and scream at him if you want. But if you're not going to use these minutes as developmental minutes, what minutes are you going to use?

he's been given simple instructions. Rebound and block shots and apparently he doesn't want to do that either. Might as well give minutes to guys who are busting their *** ala Darnell Jackson.

I think you are right and as long as he is on the team, he should be given minutes. This is assuming some sort of normalacy. I think they have given up on him. I don't think Hassan is very bright or somethimg like that. He doesn't seem to have a clue and that takes away that normalacy. They might as well waive him if this is the way it is.

I don't think Hassan is arrogant. He isn't choosing to suck. That makes no sense at all. I think he is doing the best he can do and this is it. I could launch into what I think is wrong but I won't because it is unethical. It ain't good.

relax. he did good in one summer league game. he didnt lead the NCAA div 1 in scoring for an entire year

the reason i put undersized in quotation marks is for those that believe he is undersized. i think he is about avg (but an inch or 2 shorter than what i would prefer), but that wasnt my main argument. it was the fact that bringing in other good pf that are his size that have done well in the nba to show him some tricks of the trade in dealing with others taller than him. but for argument sake, your list is lacking a few pf's that would skew the avg up a bit. garnett 6'11 isnt mention though most of his career was at pf until the moved him to C out of need. bosh 6'11, tim duncan 6'11, lamar odom 6'10, andrea barnani 7'0, charlie villanueva 6'11, al horford 6'10, amare 6'11, lamarcus aldridge 6'11. those were a few big name players that are above 6'9. there are probably more i wont go in depth because again that wasnt my main point. i guess maybe im frustrated seeing all these teams add players where the kings add nothing so im grasping at straws finding people to add. but all i know is the sf well in free agency has run dry and we havent really added talent to this team. and for a team that was 5th worst in the league, staying put isnt acceptable. heck hayward was rumored at the cost of barely over 2 mil, if the maloffs are going to be cheap, here is a defensive big for barely over the vets min that could be had.
 
Maybe Hassan got pulled cause we finally are realizing how bad he still is and don't want to kill his trade value.. ya never know. ;)

I listed staring pfs, just like I said. Last season, Garnett was a c. Bosh played c, Duncan has been a c for a long time, despite what spurs say. Unless you want to call diaw a c. Odom didn't even play, let alone start. Horford has played c his entire nba career. Ditto barg. Charlie v is basically a barg the way he's been playing, but you can have him if u want. Amare is listed as stat in my list. La played at c last year. So you basically just went ahead and listed a crapload of guys who played center, proving my point. I listed starting pfs. You come back with odom, who did more work on a reality show than on a court last season. Why not put in bill Walton on your list?

Next year, you're welcome to make a list. All I did was to to espns depth chart, take the pfs, and changed a few discrepancies due to updates of roster and injuries. You're completely changing the context to suit your verbiage.

Robinson is a top 5 pick. He's a lock for the team, if not the starting lineup. He's probably just using the summer league to mess around with his handles and show some things he has in his bag. You guys are jumping all over him like it's an elimination game of the playoffs. Hell be fine. he's going to bang, score, get rebounds, and try on defense. Robinson should be one of the few you guys shouldn't worry about.
 
Trob has been confusing. No way can he play extended minutes at SF in real NBA games. But he has shown good handles and athletic ability(agility, lateral movement, etc..which most PFs dont have). Problem is, he just looks small out there. He cant get up enough to get around bigger defenders when going to finish at the rim and that is a huge problem. He did well drawing contact but he will not get most of those calls in real NBA games. Love the attitude, demeanor, and hustle though. That will surely translate, and rub off on other players.

Whiteside has been a real head-scratcher...he's looked awful. Something looks up with him...he doesnt even seem to be trying out there and im glad English said those things about him. Because they are true. He started to show flashes in his limited minutes at the end of last year before the injury, but now he just looks lost as ever. For someone that averaged the block shot #'s he did in college, he is a pretty bad shot blocker. If you give him even the slightest up fake he is jumping out of the gym and he is lost for that entire possession(thats my biggest problem with him). If a 6'1 PG drives in to the lane and acts like hes going up for a shot, STAY ON THE GROUND AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP!!..Hassan is a big dude, he doesnt need to be jumping at every shot fake..and he is so slow at recovering and has 0 lateral speed he cant get back into the play. Its tough to watch.

Kenny Gabriel as impressed me too in the limited minutes he's got. Seems to have a solid jumper, and he defends and has played well all around. I'd like for him to get more minutes.

Anyways, just my 2 cents. Go Kings!

i went off of the depth chart on yahoo sports and glanced at what nba.com categorized the player. so maybe its just a matter of different sites having different opinions. i mentioned that garnett played C out of need but for the most part he was a pf. was in minnesota, was while the Celts had perkins and when j o'neal wasnt hurt, even mentioned that he would prefer to play his natural position at pf earlier in the season. bosh played pf while joel anthony was at C, Duncan played pf while robinson was C, and now while blair or splitter plays C, odom you gave me and he did play in the beginning of the season, he just sucked and then went on personal leave. horford you are correct, he is a C. he only played like 11 games this year and i went off of last year when he played 30 games a pf and the rest at C. bargs is kinda the opposite of garnett. most of his career he was a C, but i never cared about the raptors and went off yahoo again where it listed that he played 31 out of 32 games at pf while aaron gray was C. so i guess he would cancel out garnett. aldridge played PF for port while camby was their C, and when camby was gone pryzbilla came back to play C. so i dont know where you got all of these players playing C. when i look on nba.com or yahoo, they are listed at PF or F/C. i mean they are all tall enough to play center and can play when needed. but when they start, most of the time there are Cs in the game with them. in any case, if you read my earlier post i agreed that trob isnt as undersized as OTHERS may believe, even though i wish he was taller. i just pointed out that your list left off some starters that I believe are PF, and id assume others would too since they are listed as PF on nba.com or yahoo sports, or when they start a game, there are others players starting at C, or throughout most of their careers they played PF. if you consider them Cs, we will just have to agree to disagree. differnet sites have different info, like nba.com and yahoo listing blake at 6'10. in either case if a PF is anywhere from 6'9 to 6'10, id consider them avg, 6'8 undersized and 6'11 a real good sized PF. but in the end, this is all moot because the players i compared him to (brand and scola) have both been picked up by other teams for dirt cheap. Your last section is where we completely agree. whether someone thinks he is undersized or not, he is a good player and i actually considered him top 3. im not calling him a star or even think he should start yet, but i think and hope he will in time become our starting PF of the future. once he starts playing with a real center in cousins, things will get easier for him. and you are right we shouldnt worry about him after 2 summer league games.

ps. i hope this back and forth doesnt come across as me questioning your basketball knowledge. it's a slow day with no kings game in summer league, scola and brand are both picked up, i dont see any point in picking up any other sf in free agency, so im kinda just arguing for arguments sake. :)

At this point Akognon is better than Jimmer in all ways: ball handling, passing, and even deep shooting. Those years overseas have helped. If the Kings don't pick him up someone else will.

Whiteside should be dominating but instead he is mostly clueless except for occasional flashes. How disappointing.

According to storytellers.com, this is the last day the Kings have to waive Hassan Whiteside before his contract becomes fully guaranteed for the 2012-13 season.

The Kings were clearly not happy with his performance the last 2 days in Las Vegas, including a benching in yesterday's game against the Lakers for not getting back on defense. The Kings have been patient with his development for 2 years, but from my sources, his roster spot is definitely in question going forward.

I dont think it would be that stupid. what has he done for us in the last 2 years.... might as well get somebody who will create an impact
