SKITA cut again...

All-Star
PORTLAND, Oregon -- It looks like he wasn't the next Dirk Nowitzki after all.

The Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday waived forward Nikoloz Tskitishvili, who has been a major bust since being taken in the lottery in 2002.
Selected fifth overall by the Denver Nuggets, the 7-foot Tskitishvili was counted on to be the next great European player. Instead, he has career averages of 2.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 172 games. The native of the Republic of Georgia has played with five teams.
Tskitishvili, 23, averaged 2.8 points and 1.7 rebounds in 12 games with the Trail Blazers last season.

I never really looked into this guy, just know he was a lottery pick and is considered a bust.

Yet, he's never got the minutes since his rookie year, and has an 11.3 MPG career average. Guess he just doesn't have the work ethic?

What is it.

Phoenix waived him and Portland claimed him off waivers for about 5 days, until they re-signed Pryzbilla. You have to think there's something not right with this guy after 5 teams, altho hardly fair to count Portland in there. :p I think he's only 23, tho.

Skita tore up summer league last year and people were saying that he had finally turned the corner, then he got injured and bounced from Minnesota to Phoenix never doing much. Who knows with this guy.

he's another 7 ft shooter. we have brad for that

i don't think anybody is insinuating that the kings should sign him, as this is in the nba forum.

skita is a bust. plain and simple. european players are tricky, and it seems strange because they largely appear to come to the nba with a good understanding of the game. their coaches don't teach them anything about fire and determination, though, which is why so many european players are construed as "softies." many of them know how to shoot the ball, but few of them understand what the hustle game is all about. europe doesn't teach that when they teach basketball. when you first come into the nba, unless you're going to be an immediate difference maker, you build your reputation and get your minutes based on what kind of hustle you can provide, regardless of background. manu ginobili is a rare european commodity in that he grasped the hustle aspect of building a reputation. much of that must be credited to gregg popovich, but many euro players would have folded under pop's intense tutelage, so manu's resilience is also commendable. scouting europe has to be one of the more difficult scouting positions in the nba.

Manu's Argentinian, as is Nocioni. Based on that limited evidence I would say the basketball culture down there must include a healthy dose of all out hustle.

Similar for Russians... AK47, Khryapa, Monia. No you never saw much of Monia, but on the Blazers and from reading his profile(s) he seemed like a good two-way prospect. Just the language barrier has hurt him. Remember had a great stint vs. the Kings in pre-season.
