Showcase time for Hassan and Jimmer?

Do you think that Jimmer getting 24 minutes last night and Hassan actually touching the floor in the last few games has been an effort to showcase them for potential trade partners OR just young guys coming up?

Alternatively, it could be that others are on the trading block, so giving them some minutes to see if the potential is there may warrant trading away some other players who may be ahead of them in the rotation. It's all a crap-shoot, and I certainly don't know. I will say, though, I do like that Whiteside is getting some minutes. At least now we'll know what we have. (A project. A big one.) In Jimmer's case, I think it's about time to start easing him into steady minutes when he can handle them.

Jimmer has played before. His minutes are sporadic though. As for hassan chop, cousins was out last game and in heavy foul trouble the game before from the start.

Hard to think that the Kings would be showcasing young two guys to the league when the team doesn't even know what it has in them since both were understood to be projects.

I honestly don't think they are showcasing either player. Every team needs a shooter, Jimmer will come around.
And Hassan has attributes this team severely lacks, so I dont think they would move him either.

Im pretty sure we will see The Kings try and develop both these players further, unless a spectaculer deal comes through for them.

The players I DO think we are showcasing are, Garcia, Greene, Salmons, Outlaw, Thompson.

Can they trade Outlaw? I thought they had to wait.

I don't think they are showcasing either. They are developing them as you should do with guys this age. Hassan, at his bumbling worst, is a force to be reckoned with. Jimmer is a force yet at the complete opposite of the force spectrum. Neither are starters nor do I think they should be. Both are good changes of pace from anyone else that might play their position. The signing of Clifford Ray coincides with the introduction of Hassan to the NBA court. I don't think this is a coincidence.

We are developing a bench. If I had it my way, I would have IT, Jimmer, Hayes/JT, Hassan/JT, and Salmons coming off the bench. That's not bad.

Edit: Oooh, oooh, and as starters I want Tyreke, Thornton, AK47, Thomas Robinson, and Cousins. Not an impossible dream.

I think that in Hassan's case, the opportunity just presented itself. No Hickson, and with Hayes being undersized, it helps to have anyone on the floor over 6'9" with him. Whiteside needs some serious tutoring on how to block out under the basket. Fundamentally, he's just terrible in that area. There were at least 6 or 7 boards he should have had last night. But at least he's getting experience, and there's no substitute for that. With Jimmer, I just think it was a combination of matchups, and that he was playing well. He was one of the few players last night that was actually trying to create for his teammates instead of trying to be a hero. There was a stretch in the second half last night when I believe there were seven possessions in a row where we went one on one and came away with nothing. Pure crap basketball that I would expect to see in a parking lot.

good note on Jimmer. This team needs more playmakers. It shouldnt be solely a point guard out there making plays. Thomas can make plays, as well as Tyreke at times, but thats about it. Everyone else either looks for their shot, forces something, or passes it back to the top of the key to "reset" an "offense" which just consists of more one on one plays.

But as far as this thread goes, i dont think these players were showcased to trade. i do however wonder if Hickson sitting out has anything to due with teams maybe having interest in him, and the team not wanting him to risk injury if there is a trade in the works.

I don't think its a case of showcasing I think its a case of developing youngster on the floor. Jimmer has played well lately and is a work in progress while with Hassan, there is only so much you can learn in practice...there comes a time when you need to spend some time on the court to get the feel of the game and learn that way.

I like what Hassan has shown us in the last 2 games. He is still very raw but there is something to work with there and if we ever give up on this small ball crap, he could be that perfect complement to Cousins guy that some of us are craving for. If he can develop into our own version of Serge Ibaka we would be laughing all the way to the bank because Cousins-Whiteside front court has some serious potential.

Still a LONG LONG way off but its something that could happen.

We have rarely given up on youngsters until we were really sure (for better or worse). Third year is about the earliest. That said some of the bizarre lineups and minutes decisions of late have had me wondering if there are off court reasons for them.

Hassan seems to play like he doesn't realize he put on 30lbs of muscle. I've seen zero physicality from him in the paint. But, it could be just being tentative as I doubt he was expecting to get off the bench at all. No doubt he has talent. if that talent blossoms he'd be a pretty good fit next to Cuz. I do worry about Hassan's motor though. Think going to the big man camp this summer would help.

But at his size, with the increased muscle, there's no reason to get pushed around in the paint the way he does. Hope it's just an early mental jitters thing which he shakes. My guess is he's never had to be physical before as he's so long he could just reach over everyone to block shots or gets boards.

Why give up on talented young players on rookie contracts? The only reason would be enticement in a trade for a solid starting level veteran in his prime.

I think both Jimmer and Hassan will stick with the Kings and be part of the rotation. Both of them just need minutes and lots of coaching.

He actually seemed to improve in that aspect as his stint in the NO game went on, as Kaman went relatively quiet after initially burning him. Anyways, he's young. He'll learn (I hope)

Like most shotblockers he works better when he is not on the big guy pounding the ball in the paint. When a big has his body into you its hard to get lift to block the shot.

Ideally when hayes and Whiteside are on the floor together hayes would have a body on the low post threat and WS would be more free to block the shot. he does need to be played though. Lay out a simple assignment for him(box out someone if you can't block the shot and go for every block in your area) and give him steady minutes(~10-15) each game so he gets comfortable.

I know my projects never get completed if I don't work on them and this year is looking like a good year for it.

I think at some point here we are going to have to get considerably more veteran oriented if we want to win. Being young every year will keep you eternally in the basement, and we really have already done a nice job stacking young assets. But at some point, for the right players, we're going to need to quit the youht merrygoround, identify our core youth, and make the rest available t bring in the right supplemental vets.
