Sheldon Williams

This is where I fall as well. Give the guy a training camp with the team and see how everything shakes out. He's young, cheap, and at least somewhat talented. He gets a few rebounds. Let him develop a bit more and see what happens....

That pretty much sums up my opinion right now, too. He's got heart and hustle, he's got talent, he's got the type of attitude that fits right in with the type of team I hope we'll have.

I think Petrie will keep him around.

While I agree we should keep him around the length of his rookie contract at least, I still think the guy is a dud(at least for a lotto pick). He may become a solid back-up PF someday, but that's about it. His defense is adequate but his offense is atrocious. He's SOOOO slow and methodical. He's an easy guard and he's terrible finishing around the rim. His defensive IQ is pretty decent for the most part, but his offensive IQ really seems to be lacking. I'm really not that high on the kid. He's so slow and already short for his position. I really don't think he's going to amount to more than a mediocre role-player(and that SUCKS for a top 5 pick - even though I know the Hawks reached).

So um...Anyways. I watched the Kings/Lakers game last night. I miss the other Williams.

People always bashed Justin's BB IQ, but damn.......

I haven't given up on Shelden as a bench player, but I don't think he meets our needs as well as Justin, and I also wonder whether we haven't already seen most of Shelden's upside. He might be the next Tony Massenburg if he works hard, but it remains to be seen whether he'll ever rise above that level. I do not envision him as being the big in the paint who will lift our D out of the NBA's cellar.

He's no worse than Mikki, though.

Maybe, if we're really lucky, we'll end up with Larry Sanders as a second round pick this summer. He's a lot like Justin, but, unlike Justin, could be corralled into signing an MS&E contract.

With all due respect, I don't think any of us are thinking he's going to morph into Dwight Howard. I would have no problems having him be a 7-8th man off the bench. He's still cheap next year. May be cheap to keep depending on what happens next year, too. Always nice to have a wide-bodied big on the bench....provided he's worth keeping. I think many of us are just saying that we should take a closer look and see if that is the case.

Not Howard!! Damm, I'm disappointed. Seriously, the golden rule is that you give a big man at least three years to see what he turns into. Sometimes it takes more. I guarantee you that Ben Wallace was no great shakes his first couple of years. And NO! I'm not saying he's going to turn into a Ben Wallace. Lets just see what happens next year. Like some have said, at worst he may be a good man off the bench.

This is one where I really really wish Reggie had been called on the carpet earlier and forced to play the guy.

From what I have seen, I do not think Sheldon has it. He combines stubbiness with a complete lack of explosiveness, and its just very hard to picture him becoming a starting guy on a good team. And he's a stubby 4 -- really not much taller than KT, although much much broader -- which limits his usefulness off the bench because of lack of versatility.

All is not totally lost, he does have bull strength and can bounce around the skinny ninnies of the league. If he had a mean streak, which I have seen no real evidence of, he could have a role as enforcer. In any case its funny how he burrows around in groundbound fashion, just bulldozing his way from one end of the paint to the other and grabbing rebounds and hitting layups just by powering his way into prime position. But while its what he can do, how he can be effective, it just doesn't look like anything you can really build around.

But would have loved to have had a full couple of months to be sure before making decisions about ouor PF position this summer.

He reminds me of Corlis. I think Corlis could be his ceiling.

Needs to dramatically upgrade his ballhandling etc. to be Corliss. Of course Corliss did that too -- was never going to make it as a power player int eh NBA at his size, so lost a ton of the weight and tried to make it as a groundbound power SF type.
