SacBee: Martin's Off-Season Training

Nice to see KM works so hard to improve some every year. That will set and example for the "kids". Also his attitude, and maturity, seem ready to step up into more a leader role as well as being the #1 option. I especially liked the "deaf ear" reference to listening to the media about another non-playoff year. Whether they do or don't it is a nice attitude to bring to such a young team.

I'm glad that he's not only working hard, but is targeting his weaknesses.

Physically, his once-fragile frame took yet another offseason step toward sturdy. His game that already taken historical steps in terms of statistical progress should be refined, with an emphasis this summer on everything from strengthening his weak hand on the dribble to playing lower to the floor rather than his penchant for staying upright to improving defensive positioning and awareness to finishing with exclamation point dunks more than ever.

David Thorpe knows what he's doing.

"Yesterday, I made my final trip of the season to IMG to catch up with Kings' star Kevin Martin. If you are sleeping on Kevin this year, you need to wake up. Last year Kevin was among the leagues' most efficient NBA players, and tops in a ton of categories. Injuries derailed a nice "All-Star" caliber season something he's better prepared for this season. Kevin looks great coming into camp, being trailed for the past two days by a Kings' TV crew, you may see yours truly giving Kevin some crap as he trained yesterday. Kevin is a notorious gym rat and has found a new passion according to friends with him at IMG. Kevin apparently has fallen in love with the weight room, adding about 10 pounds of core and upper body strength to his wiry frame, look for Kevin to be more durable this year as he knows he's the target."

Nice find. Though, I'd have to wonder about this section:

A prominent Western Conference assistant coach was into IMG this month and said that Daniel was a better player than any big they had on their roster, and this team sports a former NBA All-Star and Olympian in their front court, and has two lottery pick front court players.
Former All-Star/Olympian: Brad Miller?
Two Lotto Prospects: Hawes and Thompson?

Well, according to this article that's a no-brainer, because we're talking about the #4 center in the league.

"He is easily as good as any starting center in the NBA not named Shaq, Bynum or Dwight."

That's right, we're talking about Daniel Santiago of the career 3 pt and 2 reb NBA averages!
