CHARLOTTE. N.C. – Ron Artest put a Kings uniform back on Friday, perhaps happy about it and perhaps not, perhaps planning to leave the team in another few months and perhaps not.

Artest thinks we hate him

The following is from an article on the SACBEE...
"Not sure," he said when asked what happens in the summer. "I'm not worried about it. Vacation."
He must have some thoughts on his plans, he was told.
"I don't know," Artest replied. "From what I read in the blogs, everyone hates me."
The Kings have two more months before the regular season ends. In the meantime, they have a starting small forward playing at a very high level, distractions or not, uncertainty or not.

There it is... Artest thinks we hate him. i really think he's a great player and he is becoming a better person. I think we should keep him around but does he want to stay? with all these Artest haters, He's having second thoughts. Why can't we just support the guy? He is our leader like it or not.

If Ron Artest is our true leader he should not get too worried about what people say and he should just keep working hard to prove them wrong. I'm kind of torn on Artest, he is a great player but I hope one day Salmons will be able to take his starting role.

Ron is a good player, but not the right player for this team to rebuild with.. i want him to go to a contender and win a championship.. same goes for bibby. Its nothing personal.. hes just not a good player to rebuild with.. he's going to want to win like every player should, but when we arent winning he can say and do some dumb things ( not this year, but in the future as we continue to get younger i can see this happening ) he can play a bunch of different positions, but thats not really a good thing for a rebuilding team.. right now he's taking away minutes from hawes and shelden when he plays the 4, and garcia/douby when he plays the 2/3 ... great player, but he cant be in our long term plans.

i don't think salmons is on the same level as Artest when it comes to being a key factor on both sides of the court. Artest is amazing on defense and in clutch situations. just watch the bobcats game again. you'll see it. without artest that game would have been on the loss column

I didn't say he was on the same level, I just feel he fits in with this team better. He played so awesome when he was a starter. I also don't have anything against Artest, I know he is a great player.

There are an awful lot of basketball blogs out there, and most of them aren't us, so he may not be talking about Kings blogs at all. (I'm sure he's not getting any love in the Pacers or Pistons blogs.) But if he is, I'm not sure what sort of response you're expecting. 70% of us said that we were disappointed that he wasn't traded. I don't think it's realistic to expect people to misrepresent their feelings in order to keep someone on the team who they'd rather have gone.

I don't think Salmons fits in better than Artest. Salmons doesn't demand a double team and Artest does. Artest waits for the double team and passes out of it. You don't see him dominating the ball the way he used to. I HAVE noticed the team gives him the ball a lot. That's part of the offense. Salmons needs to dominate the ball or shoots outside jumpers. I don't recall his skills as a passer. Artest is clearly better on defense. Artest has the quickest hands I've seen.

I don't understand how there can be a debate except for - getting back to the article - people don't like him. It seems that the reaction to him has gone beyond waiting for him to explode to actual dislike. Certainly people don't want him on the team.

Well, he's on the team and he's our best player.

hate is a strong word....
Dislike? Yes.

Ron. Wake up. If you would have acted like a normal person and not have a change of heart every other day, while spurting your comments out to your "favorite friend"....the media, most of this animosity towards you would have never happened.

How do you want the Kings fans to feel when one day you want to win a ring with Sacramento and then next day, you make it public that there is a strong chance that you may leave for New York. Where is the logic in that?

Artest needs to understand that he at times sticks his own head under the guillotine.

i'm not taking anything away from Salmons. He is a great player and he played incredible ball when he was a starter. but he needs to adjust now. He needs to find a way to contribute off the bench for now. it would really help. But the way Artest has been playing, as of late, has been fascinating. He looks like a star out there. and Salmons is just a month younger than Artest. I don't see as to why we can't commit to Artest if we put a good behavior clause in his contract.

Let's compare him to Webber. When Webber was here, he didn't have the baggage of the fight. Chris DID have a history of being unable to get along with coaches. Ron has to understand how the fight effects people's perceptions. Take away the fight and the two are very similar. Chris changed his mind often, he criticized the city and its food, he had a lot of people very angry. Webber's feelings shifted with the wind also. Heck we were convinced he would leave. We tend to hear and remember the negatives and not the positives. Anytime a player says he wants to leave, it becomes fixed in our brains.

Some people are like that. It can be disturbing when all you hear from a person is filtered through a reporters "pen" so to speak. Be with him day in day out and if it's still upsetting, then we have a real problem. I don't know if his team mates see him as a problem. They know more than we know.

Does anyone know what his team mates think?

How long will Artest need to be on good behavior before we relax? People who have debated with me and shared PMs know that I have relaxed. I enjoy Ron and his over the top enthusiasm.

I'll add that defensive players seldom get the same props as an offensive player. We all can appreciate a guy who hits for 30 nightly but can we appreciate a guy who can bat a ball free from behind with regularity. We don't so Ron's skills will never get him the adulation he may deserve.

Sorry for going on so much but I have to say the obvious. It takes no psychiatrist to know that we all want to feel loved or at least wanted. Multiply the normal need by a 100 and you have Ron Artest. He's screwed because his own behavior has made it impossible for most fans to have 100% faith in him.

I AGREE 100%. couldn't say it better

As a reminder to all, posting articles from Sacbee.com wholesale is not permitted here, and thinking that you can get away with just posting 2/3 of the article and calling it good ain't gonna cut it, either...

And, if you do quote or reference an article, always provide a link.

I don't hate him. He's one of my favorite players and he teaches our younger guys a lot of skills. The only thing that annoys me is when he says he'll stay and then the next day says he doesn't know. Like Team Dime said, that's a little like sticking his own head under the guilotine.

The guy stealing Shelden/Spencer's minutes is Mikki. He takes about 25-30 MPG a lot of times. If he's not heard Shelden can get like 15 more than he's been getting and play about 20 MPG and Spencer could get the remaining 10 so he'd get 15-20 too.

Artest strikes again... I don't "hate" him. Yes I did want him to be traded because I got the impression that he wanted to be elsewhere. In fact after the last week I was even thinking that it wouldn't be a bad idea to trade Salmons and QD. And start negotiating a new deal with him (with behavior clauses). My thought was it would show Ron that he is "our guy", even if it's is only temporary. If he continues to play like he is playing, reassures the fans that he wants to be here, and stays out of trouble, than there is no reason that the kings faithful would not want him on the team (assuming he continues to take good shots and doesn't try and do too much).
