Not to be too cynical, but the Kings will only have $27 million in payroll to start the offseason. They'll have to spend a good chunk of their caproom (at least $17 million or so) just to reach the league's minimum for salary.
This offseason is really a huge opportunity. High lottery pick, big time capspace, intriguing core with a few guys they want to retain. If played right this summer could mean a huge jump for this young team within the next couple years.
Obviously my hope is that the Maloofs DO shell out what Petrie needs to make upgrades and retain Dally and Thornton, the arena deal gets done and approved and we get to watch a very exciting and competitive Kings team for many, many years to come.
