Rubio Staying in the Draft

I still don't think we are going to get him..

I would be open to getting Harden and using Martin as trade bait if we cannot get Rubio.

Ok, this seems like a more appropriate place to post this:

Teague also staying in draft

Taj Gibson too

Great news on Rubio btw. Posting this here because the more people who declare means we have a better chance at getting a good player at 23 and 31. Actually would like to see Rubio, Teague and Gibson as Kings :D

This is actually great for the Sacramento kings. He is dedicated already to the Sacramento Kings by offering to almost make his only appearance and workout for the Kings. I like this kid to be a Sacramento Kings in about 10 days!

Nice...

The Grizzlies and Thunder have no freaking use for Licky Lubio.

I mean...c'mon...

Just give us Ricky already...please...

Last I read he was doing 0 workouts, just "talks". I'd love it if he did workout for us, even just a solo workout.

Not sure. DraftExpress has him going #22 to the Mavs, but honestly I expect him to go somewhere between 14-18, and even there I think he may be a steal

Draftexpress last year was almost on the button with their picks (except for DeAndre Jordan). If I remember correctly they even had Thompson going to us on the day of the draft.

That was probably like the day before the draft when they had a pretty good idea of where everyone was going.

RealGM said:
With concerns over his strength, shooting and buyout, Ricky Rubio has gone from the consensus number two pick to one of the many wild cards in this year's NBA Draft. Rubio is not interested in Memphis or Washington and the Thunder appears to be leaning toward selecting James Harden or Stephen Curry. The Kings were thought to be a sure bet but sources in Sacramento tell ESPN that it's far from a lock that they'll pick him if he's still on the board.
Still, Rubio's agent Dan Fegan said the flashy-passing playmaker will remain in the Draft.
Rubio is on his way to the U.S. but it is unlikely he'll participate in a team workout.

I get the feeling lately that we'll pass on Rubio if he's still on the board. Has Geoff ever drafted someone that he hasn't worked out?

DraftExpress is very good. By far the best out of the internet sources.

They did not have Thompson going to us, but they were darn close. They were hearing a lot of talk the day before and the day of the draft about him going much higher than anyone had previously thought, so with their final mock they bumped him way up the board all the way to 14 (Warriors) when everyone else, including all the big network "experts", still had him going at the end of the 1st. Some even had him an early 2nd.

Wait, I thought the last day they did have him going to us.. Or was it the other way around with the Kings/Warriors? Maybe we had Randolph, and they had Thompson or something. I know it was close.

EDIT: nevermind..

Thompson and Randolph were flipped, but I was thinking it was the Kings taking him.

Yes! Gerald Wallace but he said he wouldn't do it again!

Then again, if he flies to Europe to watch the guy play, and interviews him in Sac, I'd imagine that Geoff must be interested, and probably considers that the equivalent of a workout.

EDIT: Hmmm... Chad Ford seems to think that Geoff is reserving judgment on the issue, and claims to have sources in Sac that he's basing that on. Then again, how often has Chad Ford been right about Sac's picks? Not very, to the best of my recall. But here's the link anyway: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2009/news/story?id=4261379

If Rubio's still available when we pick, and Geoff passes on him, I'd be very, very angry. Rubio is one of those talents that, even if you don't want him, you take him simply because he adds tremendous value to the team, even if that means trading him (which is exactly why I don't think he'll be there at #4). In our case, however, he is the perfect fit next to Kevin in the back court. Even if you don't like his game, you have to acknowledge that all the hype and the European aspect (see: foreign market interest) make him a very lucrative player to have, which is key when you're struggling to keep an NBA team from leaving town. If Rubio is available at #4, Geoff simply has to take him. It could mean the difference between the Sacramento Kings and the Las Vegas Kings.

There is definately that.

Rubio will bring more money in than Flynn or Evans, thats for sure.

I worry about how his game will translate...But I wont be entirely disappointed if he's the pick. BBIQ off the charts, he'll find the way to be solid at the very least.

i dont know why he wont work out... what if.. he DOES and does crazy and shows he is more than he is... grizz and thunder would be idiots not to pick him.. which could be bad for us. one way or another. if we wanted him so badly the other teams will extort us for what ever they can, or trade him for another team..

if he bombs in the work outs it would utterly kill his stock.

any ways so has he scheduled an interview with the kings?

Why is Rubio not doing any workouts? His camp is afraid that it would drop his stock?

I think his camp assumed he was #2, or #3 if Thabeet was #2, or at absolute worst #4, which is where they would like him to go anyway since we have an opening and some saavy marketing international players. But as he has refused to work out, and other guys' stock has risen at his expense, and that grip Rubio automatically had on being Top 2 or 3 and the first PG taken has slipped, I think they have suddenly become more open to the idea of targeted workouts to try to salvage that draft position.

One thing also of course is that a player with Rubio's strengths (court vision, passing, floor generalship) and weakneses (shooting, athletcism) is not going to be shown to fullest advantge in a workout session. I'm not sure whetehr Thabeet is working out either, and if he isn't it would be the same reaosning -- what he does isn't going to show in a workoout focusing on shooting.

I'm trying to catch up after missing a day reading all the threads, but didn't I see somewhere that Rubio is, in fact, scheduling a workout with the Kings??? I think he might have refused until he made the final decision to stay in the draft, couldn't he?

The Kings will reportedly get a "visit", but it's not clear whether that includes an actual workout.

I'm following Sam Amick on twitter and he said Rubio is en route to Sac.

NOTE: I've closed this thread simply because we're getting duplications in the multiple threads about Rubio and his trip to Sacramento... - VF21
