Roster construction/rotation discussion (Split from Grizzlies [Game] thread)

Who will be the last team standing?

There are 2 winless teams.

We play today so there is a chance we're not dead last in the association.

The thing is that the Kings NEED to make the playoffs. A entire generation of potential fans has pretty much been lost due to continued lack of success. Tanking is cool or whatever if you're a hardcore diehard NBA fan but the people who actually pay to go to games don't care about a "Process" or whatever. Even just getting to the playoffs this year and then blowing things up next year would be fine. There just needs to be an angle for potential fans to buy in to the franchise.

Exactly right. And the Kings NEED to make the playoffs not only to draw in those (many) fans who'll pay money only for a good/winning product, but because if they need to be in position to attract top free agents. To that end cap space is necessary but obviously not sufficient. They need to be demonstrably good enough - playoff-caliber, even if lower-level contender - that a top FA might plausibly think: Kings + Me = Exciting possibilities.

In Fox (24), Sabonis (26), and Murray (22) the Kings have some attractive pieces to build around. Maybe you can add Davion (24)/TD (25)/Huerter (24)/Monk (24) and others to that mix. I suspect Mike Brown is a draw to players around the league. That Paul George would identify them, unprompted, as a team to be reckoned with is a good sign. Now they just need to make the playoffs.

My girlfriend who I met at summer camp and who lives in Canada so no you can't meet her (so stop asking) said that the Pistons offered Great and 5 for the 4th pick in this years draft!

Having your PG, SG, SF, and likely C figured out long term is a good start. PF who plays defense would complete the starting unit. Monk is a nice piece I think. I’m not giving up on Davion but I’m also not penciling him in either.

Vivek missed his window to do a long duration play. Covid destroyed the team's PnL. Now they're looking at a recession.

But, if there was one season to do a long duration play, that season is this one. You got a generational talent in this upcoming draft.

I get what you're saying but as franchises in the NBA are now worth BILLIONS? lol. Vivek has gotten even more rich from buying this franchise alone.

Well one thing is for sure, IIRC Murrays dinner date with Monte ended in a trade of Grant to a direct competitor less than 24 hours later. ;)

Vivek's going to make billions whether the Kings win or lose--from the RE around G1C and the very likely plans to go public with the Kings/Rivercats/Republic triumphate.

As for the relegation nonsense, ain't no way that's happening. NBA would be in litigation for the next 20 yrs.
