reverse "flexible pieces"

Bench
Kings Trade:
Beno Udrih
Andres Nocioni

Sixers Trade:
Elton Brand

Why the Kings do it:
While Noc and Beno have been great for the Kings this year, we have younger cheaper depth at both of their positions with Greene and Omri at the 3 and Sergio at the backup 1/2. This gets rid of both of our longest, largest contracts for a guy who is probably harder to move but is a proven low post scorer in the league. It's a gamble, but a small one. If Brand returns to form it's a steal. If he doesn't we are stuck with his big contract (which we would've been stuck with via Beno and Noc)

Why the Sixers do it: They're actively shopping Brand, they're thin on PG depth, and they get two contracts that might be more moveable than Brand.

I'm not going to deny it, I did briefly consider this. But then I decided I was glad Elton Brand and his contract and his injuries are someone else's problem. Nocioni and Beno combined are better than Brand right now, and cheaper. Hard to believe I know.

Brand is under contract for three more years after this year and is due 18 mil in his final year. He's also a PF, and were lacking a backup center. Throw in the his latest trend toward injuries and I don't think it makes any sense for us. I'm sure they would love to unload him. Just as long as its not us..

Respect what you are trying to do here, but Brand may in fact be finsihed -- he;s a freakin' 12 and 7 guy this season. And you could really hamstring a good thing here if that is true wiht amonster unmoveable contract. Not worth the risk for such a young team. He's got a whiff of Shareef about him anyway. Lot of numebrs, never ever won, and now he's a shell of what he once was.

the contract is almost irrelevant since it's the same money that Beno and Noc make for the same length of time. The question is would you rather hang onto Beno and Noc with the hope that two smaller contracts are in fact easier to unload, or take a chance at Brand regaining form.

He has defnitely been playing terrible, I won't argue that. My thinking on the trade is that with Omri-Greene-Garcia-Kevin-Sergio-Beno-Noc all able to log minutes at the 2/3 we're a little overloaded at that spot. I think we all can agree that we need to trim the numbers there at some point.

I think the two with the largest contracts would be Beno/Noc and although Beno and Noc have been great, If the choice came down to Beno or Noc getting minutes, or Greene/Omri/Sergio getting minutes when Kevin and Garcia come back, I would choose the latter group.

and yah Brick you're right he might be totally done, which would be really bad if Noc and Beno in turn become moveable for shorter contracts. It's probably a risk not worth taking after thinking more about it, especially considering he's 30 and signed till he's 34 and already showing signs of breaking down.

The reason Nocioni and Udrih are cheaper is that Nocioni's contract is front-loaded and has a team option in the fourth year. Next year N/U make about 13.5 million and Brand makes 15.9 and it gets worse from there -- 14 for N/U and 17 for Brand, 7.8 for Udrih (if we pass on Nocioni's option) or 18 million for Brand who may or may not still be in playing condition that year.

Even if Brand is still playing like himself that contract is a killer. But when Nocioni and Udrih (not exactly All-NBA material) are both outperforming him right now? I think there's way too much risk and not enough potential reward to make it a good 'buy low' trade. If you remember Philly ended up buying out Webber's contract anyway so that trade wasn't really a win for them either. It'd be nice to turn back the clock though and get the Elton Brand from say 5 seasons ago. :)
