Reno Bighorns on NBATV now

I can't believe how many times that team is getting on National TV. More than the Kings. Haha. Whiteside and Honey both in game.

Huh? I think that game was tape-delayed. They aren't even playing today.

Reno (10-9) beat Iowa (12-5) 107-72 and outplayed them in every category. Iowa had only one player in double figures at 13 pts.

Whiteside started and in 28 min had 8 pts, 7 reb, 4 blk, 2 stl, 2 TO and was credited with "spirited interior defense!" Following is taken from Game Story in Reno D-League web site:

"When focused, Whiteside can change a game at this level with his defense. His offense is well behind his defense at this point, having spent only one season at Marshall before making himself available for the 2010 NBA Draft. He appeared in one game with the Kings during the 2010-11 season, and has yet to appear in a game this year."

Honeycutt in 15:51 off the bench had 9 pts, 6 reb, 1 stl

Reno next game is Friday, 13 Jan at 9 am! 9am, can that be right???

Honeycutt doesn't get any playing time on the Big Horns. Hassan's now starting for them.

The Big Horn's white PG Blake Ahearn is better than Jimmer, just look at these stats: http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/blake_ahearn/ That 23.25 per is good for 7th in the NBA.
How in the world can you compare a player's stats in D-League with a player playing in the NBA? Especially rookies.

Hassan really needed to stay in college a lot longer, IMHO.

"When focused..." tells you an awful lot. If he can't stay focused on defense and he can't play offense, we have just run out of basketball.

why didnt he?? why donesnt everyone stay aslong as possible surley you whould boost your draft place if you mature in collage

Ditto! Had two things going against him coming out of college. First, he played against lesser competition in college, so his stats were somewhat exaggerated. Second, he is even more immature than Cousins. He just displays it in a different way. From a scouting point of view, putting everything else aside. He's not a good passer, and as a result, the ball stopped with him. He has poor ballhandling skills. He has a very limited post game, which is mostly dunking the ball. He has low basketball IQ. Those are the bad's.

On the good side, he's a natural shotblocker who just reacts to the ball. You can't teach that. He's a willing rebounder. He has a decent 15 foot jumper, and has good fourm on the shot. He's a terrific athlete, and a good frame to add muscle. In short, he's a diamond in the rough, and if shaped properly, he will at least shine, and at best dazzle you with his brilliance. His biggest flaw is between his ears.

I follow him on twitter, and have had some brief conversations with him. I think he wants to be a great player. I don't think he understands the enormity of what it takes to be a great player. The ability is there. Now its up to him, and I truely wish him the best.

so do the guys who go into the draft without finishing collage get a degree??

also how long before the draft do the lads choose if they want to enter it

so do the guys who go into the draft without finishing collage get a degree??

Not unless they have met the academic requirements for the degree. Most early entrants do not meet the requirements, and so do not get a degree unless they return to school (summers, after their career) to complete it.

so if you leave school early (IT) but dont get drafted what do they do can they go back to collage and start again and go into the draft next year

Thanks for pointing out it was the "white" Ahern so we wouldn't get him mixed up with the other Aherns on the team.
I'm at work and this one got me laughing out loud. Stop it! ;)

Yes, money is the reason most make the jump to the NBA early. I can understand that. There are players who come from very poor families. I'm sure they feel a need to go early so they can help out their families. And some families may push for it, too.

I'm watching the latest Reno Big Horns game.

Why is it that D-League teams have such cool names? Big Horns, Red Claws, Mad Ants... Those are all teams I'd cheer for just based on name alone.
