At this point, I'd take a late first round pick + expiring for Artest. And do it before Ron Ron goes crazy again.
Actually, one guy Dallas could use is Brad.
Two teams in the West have upgraded their frontline, and the Spurs and Rockets already have Duncan and Yao (not to talk of Utah, which has some good big men). Brad is playing really well, and could help Dallas.
Now, before people jump on me, for daring to talk about trading Brad, let me clarify. I am not saying that we should trade him. Just that we should listen to offers, and pull the plug if a good offer comes along. With teams getting desperate due to changing scenario, something might come along.
As much as many of us want, we shall not make the playoffs this year. We also won't be bad enough to land a high pick. So, we aren't going anywhere this year, and possibly next (we might make the playoffs next year, but as a low seed to get bounced off in the first round). Brad has two years after this on his contract. By the time we become relevant again, he would be in the final year of his contract, or past that, and his performance might go down again.
If we can replace him with some interesting young prospects, we should consider it. Of course, this has to be weighed against the intangibles that he brings. For example, if his presence/guidance helps Spencer, he is worth more to us.
Going back to Dallas, I don't think the numbers will work. Apart from Diop, there isn't anyone on their roster whom I think they shall be ready to give, and we shall want. Also, while Cuban has usually been fine with taking on additional salary, this is a fairly big committment, and even he might think twice.
