Random comments trade thread

We have too many damn threads. We need to start using super threads, that way there will not be 7 threads with the same discussions going on in them. We don't need a new thread every time someone has a hair brained trade idea.

That being said, with this current roster, we need to do a 2 for 1 or 3 for 1 trade, and at this point I really don't care who it is except cousins. We need to move at minimum a guard and a small forward. Preferably two SF's and 1 Guard for one player.

We have 3 player who replicate each other in Thorton, Jimmer and Brooks (I know they are not exactly the same, but they are all gunners and small for SG).

We also have 3 SF's who really should not see the floor. Garcia, Outlaw and Salmons.

I've said it a million times in one form or another, but Dudley for Thornton. Bigger, better defense, experienced but still young (27), and while less scoring the outside shooting is still there. Save 3 mil in cap space to boot.
Suns wanted Gordon, now they have a similar piece to build around.

But why would WE want to do that now. We are seeing the potency Thornton can bring as a 6th man. And its working.

So Thornton can score starting or off the bench, great. Maybe the best thing about it is he stands in the way of Brooks jacking up every shot. That doesn't mean it's working.

I'm sure the Kings will not be hurting looking for guys willing to shoot the ball. Now when Smart wants to play a shooter next to Evans, there will be a real sized SF out there. As a bonus, there will never be a reason to see Outlaw in a game again, and Salmons can function as a backup SG, taking him from no value to mildly useful.

Since MT's value is at it's highest, maybe the Kings can pry one the Sun's many 1st rounders too, to replace the one going to POR.

im sorry but out to me theres 2 guys that should NOT be traded... Cousins, and MT.. MT is doing much more than just score... that guy also has the ability to not just produce during games but come CLUTCH !!! in moments where even some all-stars collapse

I see what you did there...

Sorry, but this thread sucks. I like separate threads for separate trade ideas. It's a lot more interesting than an unending mismatch of random comments all lumped together with the occasional gem tossed in...

Yah I kinda agree.. It's much easier to discuss things when they have their own thread rather than sifting through this big thread full of every idea possible.

So far, the only player thats been consistent, at least on the scoring end is Thornton, so I'm not ready to trade him away. To say that its not workiing with him as the sixth man doesn't make any sense. Maybe its not working as far as the team being successful, but thats not Thorntons fault. He's doing his job. As far as the Kings team is concerned, he's an impact player when he comes into the game, and in many ways. For one thing, he becomes the focus of the other teams defense, which makes life easier for others on the floor. He legitimately helps spread the floor. You have to guard him!!!! Actually for this reason, the Kings might want to consider starting Thornton over Tyreke, in order to get a good outside shooter on the floor with Cuz. It might even take some of the pressure off of Tyreke, who frankly, looks confused at times on just what to do on offense. He just doesn't look confident at times, and almost like he's just trying things to see what might work. As opposed to Thornton, who always seems to know what he wants to do.

Probably not a popular idea for those that are married to the idea of Tyreke being a superstar. No doubt that Tyreke is a better defender than Thornton, but Thornton has taken his defense to a higher level this year. Don't get me wrong, I still think Tyreke can be a very good player, but he's being asked to change his game, change his jumpshot, and at the same time, be one of the premier defenders in the league. I think he's struggling with that change right now, and the best thing for him right now, might be to come off the bench with the idea of being an impact player, a disrupter on defense, and an attacker on offense.

I was just looking at our Salaries and think out best bet would be to try and package someone with Garcia since he is an expiring. But that could hinder resigning Tyreke next year.

Can we trade Brooks, or are there limitations because he is a new signing.

Since Petrie has lusted after Brooks for a few years, and now finally has him, I doubt he would consider trading him. Unless someone makes him an offer he can't refuse of course!

Trade Brooks and Jimmer for Afflalo. Brooks plays reckless basketball and Jimmer is a subpar defender. Afflalo defends, shoots, and otherwise stays out of the way. This also shortens our rotation by 1.

And so the Magic do that because...

Starting price is Evans, then maybe hope they settle for Thornton and Jimmer or a 2nd round pick. More likely they ask for Trob + MT.

Are we talking about the same afflalo? He's having a nice season but nothing that justifies this kind of talk. And he's 27 so it's not like there is a ton of upside there. He'd be a nice piece but there is only so much I'd give away for him.

There are a few teams that really need a guard, Pacers, Lakers, maybe Bucks and Raptors if they are trading away expiring contracts, Pistons, Wizards all come to mind, and the Kings and Twolves seem to have extra at the moment.

Not sure there would be much return value but Detroit and Washington have extra bigs, even Miami has extra SF and poor guards. Brooks for Battier maybe? IT for Singler or Monroe?

Didn't know where to put this idea so will stick it here, but on your point about L*kers needing a guard, I think we could make an interesting deal with them that could be beneficial to both sides. Here goes:

LAKERS GET:
SG Tyreke Evans
SF Francisco Garcia
PF Jason Thompson
PG Aaron Brooks

KINGS GET:
PF Pau Gasol
C Robert Sacre
SG Darius Johnson-Odom
2013 2nd Rd. Draft Pick

WHY??? Lakers desperately need depth and a backup PG, and can use cap room to make their best offer to Howard. It makes one wince whenever we trade promising young talent to the Horribles, but if we get a PF that could really help Cousins mature and gain some flexibility over the long haul, could be worth it. My next deal (likely in the offseason) would be to deal John Salmons to DEN for Wilson Chandler and Anthony Randolph. DEN does this to get an expiring to throw money to Iggy, should they so choose, and add a valuable depth piece to their shoot-happy lineup. Thus, my idea for our 2013-2014 Kings is:

C: Cousins/Hayes
PF: Gasol/Randolph/Robinson
SF: Chandler/Outlaw
PG: Thomas/Fredette
SG: Thornton
As well as....
Draft Pick (Our 2013 First)
Draft Pick (Our 2013 Second round)
Draft Pick (LAL 2013 Second round)
...and any resignings we choose from Sacre, Johnson-Odom, Honeycutt, or even JJ. That would bring us to 13 under contract. Yes, less free money this offseason, but a more anchored starting 5 and core.

I always get a kick out of these hypothetical trades where we trade half our team. It's never going to happen so why even spend all the time proposing it? Why would be trade one of our two talents (Evans) and 2 pretty solid rotational players for an aging PF in Gasol who will never want to play with us?

I hear ya, and agree. Just an idea. But in truth, I think the two deals I could see us making to get stronger are the Chandler deal above and dealing Brooks to a contender needing a backup PG (LAL? MIL?) for a future second rounder. Would set us up nicely and allow us to re-sign Evans and throw new money at IT. Could also allow us to re-sign JJ for depth, and our two picks if we keep them.

C: Cousins/Hayes
PF: Thompson/Randolph/Robinson
SF: Chandler/Outlaw/Honeycutt
PG: Thomas/Fredette
SG: Evans/Thornton

Garcia (EXP)
Johnson (EXP)

Clears many a log jam. With our two picks we would get to 14 under contract, and could send the second rounder to D-League.

I like your smaller trade ideas much better! The first one made my head explode!

Still better than that one idea that had a 4 team trade or something like that where we lose 3/4 of the team with the main plan being us trying to lure Chris Paul in free agency and signing Samuel Dalembert to complete our front line, all while having Paul George as our best player.

If you could pry Koufus from Denver, you'd be a pretty slick man. They're high on him here, and really don't have much use for Brooks.

Cle looking to possibly move verejao we might be able to make it intresting.

Cle in: pekovic, T-Rob, unprotected Sac 1ST rounder
Sac in: D-will
Minn in: Varejao

I know we might be giving up a little but much but the deal also makes financial sense for the team.

Whoa..wait. We get involved in order to get D-Will? As in Derrick Williams? Not Deron? I think we'd probably be better off just sticking with the disappointing top lottery pick tweener forward we have than shipping out assets to get rid of Robinson.

P.S. I really don't think they have any interest in moving Pekovic. I could be wrong there, maybe you've heard something. But I've thought they were high on him until now.

So is Dalembert just not playing at all now or does he have an injury I haven't heard about? Ship has probably sailed on him but he's an expiring deal and shouldn't be hard to get if he's getting DNPCDs and we want him. Maybe Garcia (who makes a little less) and swap 2nds with them this year.
