Proposal: Sacramento / Portland

OvechKiN

G-League
To Kings:
Jerryd Bayless
Raef LaFrentz
Martell Webster

To Portland:
Brad Miller
John Salmons
Quincey Douby
Houston 1st '09

This finally throws us in full rebuild mode. We get 2 expirings in LaFrentz and Webster (even tough Webster may have some upside still) and a first around the same spot as Houston's.

Portland does this to compete. Miller and Salmons gives them 2 legit starters or at least if they do not want to start Miller over Oden or Pruzbilla, he will be their 6th guy for sure. He adds a different element to their frontcourt. Douby can fill in for the 5-6 mins a game that Bayless has been getting.
The 2nd coming from the Kings will basically mean that Portland is only moving down about 10 spots in the upcoming draft (very weak one).

We will most likely get a top 3 pick after this deal as well.

This is an absolutely horrible trade for Portland! I can't stress enough how ridiculously bad it is for them. They have the best GM in the league, there is no way he would even have a nightmare about this trade.

Horrible trade. I mean, throw in LeBron and Dwight Howard then maybe the Kings should do it.

I mean we're talking about Salmons and Miller. Two superstars.

Take Martel Webster and Portlands 1st rounder out of it and it might be considerable. At this point Webster is untouchable considering that he is purely untapped potential. Trades with Portland will be difficult for any team. Bayless won't go anywhere unless a team offers a player on the same time line as their current roster (mid-20s range). Portland may give up their 1st rounder for a veteran, but it would have to be a decent one with a fair contract.

Sorry guys, I had no clue Webster was still good?
Ill admit i've never seen him play.

But, Miller and Salmons are legit starters on decent teams and neither have bad contracts really.

Changed the trade a bit, I guess you guys much catch a lot more games than I do down south since all we see up here is Raptor games.
Is it closer now? or is Webster really that good? Anyone have a scouting report on him?
Would you guys swap out Douby for Garcia to get this deal done?

Portland is in need of defense supposedly and arent that high on Webster from what I read.
Their most glaring need is at the 2 position. They need someone to start and play solid D there. Something Salmons is actually good at.

Portland has no use for brad miller at all though. Salmons is the only person who makes sense in that trade.... But there isn't any chance they give up Bayless

Yeah, you beat me to it. There's no way Portland would want Miller. They're set at the center position. I could see them finding a place for Salmons, but I'm not sure they have a need there. I honestly doubt that Portland is going to make any trades. Their going to be under the cap at the end of this year, and I expect that any moves they make will be then.

Thats fair.
But Oden doesn't seem to be holding up that great this year, maybe they want a replacement until he is actually ready?
Anyhow,

What do you think we could get for Salmons alone? or Salmons and Garcia?
Would something like:
Salmons + Garcia + Williams (Expiring)
for
Lafrentz + Bayless
??

Or is Bayless that good?

I read somewhere that Portland might be interested in getting a vet who can also play defense. They might be interested in John. But the main question is, are they willing to take a risk on a tunnel vision guy, who has to play in the starter role to be effective, can he pass to his open teammates and is Portland willing to trade a guy like Jerryd - which I think they’re really high on - for a guy like John?

Jerryd is a rookie who has yet to prove himself on the court. I wouldn’t give them Cisco for him. If we’re already offering John, then no need to add Cisco (plus, I think they might have to add another player to make salaries match). But if you want to add another player (to make them more interested) you might want to add Quincy. I like him, but I think that Portland could use him and we're not.

I’m with the others that said that Portland wouldn’t take Miller. I just can’t see that happening at all.

Is Bayless really worth a 5th overall (hypothetically) pick?

Hard to say. But that's a trade that you CANNOT pull the trigger on until the fourth name is called in the draft. Not before. At this point you must know who is on the board before you swap a high lotto pick for Bayless.

Very hard to say, but i did say it. but now that i think about it, he probably isn't worth more than he is being paid.SHelden Williams and the Rockets 1st round pick for Bayless is more appropriate.

Not to me. There is some doubt about about whether he is a true point guard or not. Unfortunately, last year, the shooting guard for Arizona was injured and Bayless was forced to play out of position, so we never really got to see what he could do consistantly at the point.

I personaly think he can be a point guard in this league. he's tough, and he was a pretty good defender. He's certainly athletic enough. But a top five, no! I want to take the least amount of risk possible when picking that high.

I don't think the salaries match up, but this I could go for.
