Possible guards to sign

I do not think it will take a huge offer to get Patty Mills away from Portland. People think Armon Johnson is their choice ahead of Mills right now. They may not match a minimum offer sheet.

Jeremy Lin is getting a ton of attention right now, and like CWebb said, would be a fan favorite. I hope Sacramento is at least inquiring.

out of the last 4 names mentioned in here who is the best defender and best 3-pt shooter and who has the best combo of the both?

Rashad McCants
Rafer Alston
Patrick Mills
Jeremy Lin

Patrick Mills is def. the best shooter out of those 4. As for defending, I haven't seen much of Lin to judge, but I would go with Rafer.

I dont want castaways that need an attitude adjustment on our roster this season...if we only win 35 games with stability and promise for next season, so be it...I'd rather have that in the locker room than Olden Polynice-type negative Nancy's that think they're God's gift to basketball, and whining about their playing time and why they arent starting or scoring 20 points a game. No thanks on both McCants and Clipper castaway Dooling...thank you, that is all.:)
I agree. And this is one reason why I wanted Hawes and Nocioni out of this team. Luckily and thanks to Petrie he kicked out Hawes and Nocioni out of this team before Cousins and Whiteside got drafted. Those kind of mentality are sometimes contagious you know.

One rotten apple infecting some of the frachise-saving apples we have ( Evans, Cousins, and Greene ) and we'll be back to square one.

Mills is the best shooter?

Mills: College: .415/.331 NBA: .417/2-4
McCants: College: .486/.415 NBA: .431/.368
Alston: College: .401/.337 NBA: .383/.354
Lin: College: .471/.325

McCants is the best shooter of the group, and it's not particularly close. Lin is probably better than Mills at 2P%, but about the same from behind the arc.

I think this thread is proving there are no good options for signing another guard. So I had a wild idea, what about bringing back Bibby as a backup PG?

Atlanta -> Bibby + 2011 1st Round Draft Pick + $3 Million Cash
Sacramento -> Conditional 2018 2nd rounder + TPE

The going rate of first rounders seems to be about 3 Million so that would be a cost of 3 Million a year for Bibby. His contract ends next year, but I don't think that will be a problem since we will only have 28 Million in Salaries for our 8 rotation guys and there will be even fewer FA next offseason. (If there is an offseason.)

the Kings looked for a guard or two to stand out.

"I think that nobody stood out as kicking down the door of opportunity," Kings head coach Paul Westphal said. "Let's put it that way."

The group of guards included Donald Sloan, who signed a non-guaranteed, one-year contract before summer league.

Thank god Sloan's contract is not guarenteed he really sucked in the SL

Glad our options are still open for SG and third PG
Not sure any of the SL team guards can make the team
Time to go to work GP
go get us some talent at a bargain price
unless its a starting SG better than cisco then its ok
to maybe spend some bucks

He went to high school across town from me. I remember one day the basketball team had a game later that night against Palo Alto and I asked one of the players, "You excited?" and he said, "No! Coach says they might drop a hundred on us."

I had no idea at the time, but now I know he was talking about Jeremy Lin. It's pretty awesome.

And Atlanta would do that why? They wanna win now; trading away their starting PG for cap relief would probably be followed by a mob with torches and pitchforks

Yeah, no one really jumped out during Summer League, and Sloan is definitely not a keeper. With that said, Christmas, Thompson and Landesberg incited the most intrigue for me. Christmas actually impressed me most with his effort on defense, which was supposedly a knock on him. He's definitely got the size to guard 2s (at the very least reserve 2s), and if he comes to camp and shows that much discussed 3 point stroke consistently, he's a very viable option for the Kings.

Landesberg would be interesting just because we could insert him into the offense for Tyreke at times and maintain a similar mentality on offense of creating looks off of penetration. Only thing with him is that the shot isn't there and the defense was a bit suspect. Thompson is just a solid, solid player who would be able to fit in with many of our different lineups. A side benefit: the possibility that he'll be able to use his brains to get through to Jason when he has his foul meltdowns during the season. If he can impart his basketball IQ, whether through talking him down, through example on the floor, through some secret sibling connection, or through osmosis, then that's worth the signing alone.

Lin is also a really intriguing signing. He's shown himself to be a pretty decent athlete, able to keep up on defense with his marks (even able to hold his own against the lightning bolt John Wall) and showing off a crafty dribble drive and a little bit of a midrange game. And I don't think it can be understated that the Harvard kid will likely be intelligent enough to know that he'd be working off the ball with the likes of Tyreke and will work on improving his 3-point stroke to keep defenses honest. He grew up in the Bay Area with a terrible Warriors franchise and a championship contending Kings team, so maybe he'll give us a look in spite of how popular he is these days. ;)

Done.

Anyways, any signing we make should be in the guard department. We have only 3 guards under contract in Reke, Beno, and Garcia.

Garcia was originally and been playing mostly SF until last season. So That leaves Reke and Beno and both are point guards. If we could get a guard with the shooting of Kevin Martin and the defense of Ron Artest we would be ok. Of course that guy would be an all star lol. I don't know who we end up getting but the best are gone so whoever it is won't be a huge impact.

I think the best two options for us are....

1. Find a retired guard that can come back and play a season. I have no idea who has recently retired with plenty of gas still in the tank. Any suggestions?

2. Find a team that needs to unload a crappy contract, and get a guard we really want, along with a mildly crappy contract that we don't really want, but are able to deal with, with all our cap space. As long as it doesn't ruin our chances of snagging something nice next year.

Atlanta has Crawford and Teague at the PG spot. According to most Atlanta message boards they can't wait to get rid of Bibby. Also a fan base would have to sellout playoff games before they could form a mob.

I'd the Kings to take a flyer on Shannon Brown. Apparently the Lakers are more interested in Matt Barnes. I doubt that they'll sign both..

Brown would be a good player to sign, but we might have to give him some good money though.

Can anybody think of any point guards or shooting guards that have recently retired, that we might be able to get to play for one more year? Think of Jason Williams last year, coming back to play for Orlando. Anybody like that? (I'm not interested in J-Will specifically, because we need a consistent 3 point shooter, not a streaky guy) Maybe we could get Stephon Marbury from the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons in China. I wouldn't mind giving him a one year deal for the NBA minimum.

^Allen Iverson. lol

This kid should be signed by the Kings, if for no other reason the Laker want him!:p Seems to me the Kings have a heck of a good selling point with this guy - he could potentially get a lot of PT with the Kings and grow with the team.

It looks like he's going to sign with the Warriors- his hometown team. They did get rid of CJ Watson so... Imagine Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry, Reggie Williams and Jeremy Lin.

A good mix of pure scoring and BBIQ. Hopefully Monta doesn't come out and say, " I can't play with Jeremy Lin. "

I forgot about Teague to be honest (which is embarrassing since I'm a Wake Forest fan :D) but Crawford is not a PG. I guess Johnson could play some point but I still don't see it happening

looking more and more like the return of Ime Udoka and Rashad McCants. I know one thing we could do alot worse than those two. Mo Evans is still out there as well.
